Barb is legitimately one of the coolest hunters that's ever been on Meat Eater!

One of my favorite episodes for so many reasons. Especially this exchange: Barb: “he’s not too far.” Steve: “Really?!” That confusion and not-having-a clue-ness was so genuine. Even an expert like Steve can’t know everything. So great.

One of my favorite episodes. I loved the admission when this originally aired that she absolutely wore the crew out with her pace. 100% badass.

Steve has had some smart people on the show. But I don't know if he's ever had someone as dialled in to one critter as Barb is to grouse.

It can be pretty dubious when a 'master' has so much confidence. Barb proved she knows what she is doing. She got on the birds, no excuses

I've seen Steve hunt bears, deer, hogs, sheep, elk but this little bird is some of the best I've seen yet. And miss Barb is fantastic.

So fun watching Steve be a wide eyed novice. He looks completely perplexed when Barbara is so nonchalantly confident. This is entertainment.

I'm impressed with Barb's ability to discern where the sound is coming from, ability to gage distance and direction. Very cool.

these last two episodes might've been the two best MeatEater episodes ever. Absolutely fantastic, just shows that it doesn't always have to be a big trophy that you're going after to make great memories and experiences.

Steve was so shocked she took a few minutes to what took him four days to do. 😂

She's truly an amazing person and hunter. Now she can say she's the mentor to Steve

As a birder, I can vouch for the technique that Barb's following ... esp to spot "ventriloquist" bird species. It is just like glassing a hillside... but much more difficult in a way, due to the awkward angles

This episode had me completely entertained from start to finish. one of my favorite episodes yet.

This might be my favorite meat eater episode. It so interesting to watch someone doing something they completely excel at.

i've watched all episodes i could get my hands on, more then once, but this one in particular is just special, my favourite episode by far, i am a big fan and admirer of barb and i wish for a re-do of this episode everytime i watch it, just plain awesome :) Cheers, from Denmark

For anyone who enjoyed these two episodes as much as I did and wants more insight on why Steve was struggling (in spite of his excellent ability) check out the following quote from an experienced Sooty hunter. "Occasionally a hoot will be loud and booming-if you’re close you can sometimes feel it in your chest-and the next hoot will be faint and quiet and sound like it is several trees away. Don’t be fooled! It is not two grouse hooting at each other, but instead one single bird hooting in different directions and the hoot is echoing off a nearby tree. This is why they’ve often been compared to ventriloquists. Don’t give up unless it stops hooting; once they go quiet, they can become almost impossible to spot. If a grouse does stop hooting it may be able to see you and be nervous. They will rarely fly away when nervous" Poor Steve was walking circles all over hell thinking a bunch of birds were messing with him and didn't know if they were 10ft or a mile away. Meanwhile he could have been walking right past the bird in the tree. Those birds took him for a ride and could have been up there watching him walk in circles. LoL

When Steve finds the animal and asks someone else if they have the shot you know that person is a true expert.

Local hunting experts like Barb are always incredible.

I usually like watching big game episodes where Steve hunts elk or bear, but this one is a gem

These 2 are in my top 5 favourite episodes of Meateater. The forest is so beautiful along with the contrast in hunts. Barb is awesome. What an amazing hunter and so amazing to be hunting alone in that topography alone. I really enjoyed the dynamic between them and how open Steve was to learn, just awesome episodes.

I freakin love Barb to death she seems so freakin cool and just genuinely a nice person.

This is the episode that made me a forever fan! Every show always has an episode that makes you realize that it’s for you! When Steve was humble enough to fail onscreen and admit that he just needs help with this hunt and came back next year with a humble woman directing him I wanted to not only see every future episode but every past episode too! Well done Steve!

By far, my favorite episode of the entire series. Such a cool & interesting hunt. And Barb is an absolute gem.

This is one of my favorite episodes, Steve reminds me of me asking my mentors a million questions, and just being in awe of both them and nature.

This made me admire steve more than I did before he is never afraid or to prideful to admit when he doesnt know something and is more than willing to let others take the lead and learn.

Love the mentorship tradition in hunting. Passing along the knowledge. Brilliant episode.

I would definitely suggest inviting Barb on another episode. So cool and down to earth. She's a star and didn't even know how much people would absolutely love her.

I just listened to the podcast from this hunt, September 17th 2015, show's how much work they put in the make sure each episode is perfect. Love it.

Out of all the episodes these 2 are my favorite maybe one day I can go after that magnificent bird.
