Össur, a prosthetics expert and founder of Össur prosthetics company, presents a new technology that allows the making of a prosthetic leg within an hour, and can easily be taught to unskilled in developing countries.
Born in 1943 in Reykjavik Iceland, Össur graduated in 1970 with a degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics from Sweden. A year later he founded the company Össur, which has since become an international corporation with 1800 emplyees and operations in 15 countries. In 2005, Össur founded OK Prosthetics to develop and produce artificial limbs for the developing countries. He also founded the company Rafnar, with the purpose of developing and building boats and ships based on a new hull shape.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
