History of elmley ferry rech sittingbourne murston the swale
Today I head off into the wilds to search a area littered with exciting pottery and fragments of history . It was a great day. We had a lot of fun in the mud and found some nice stuff.

Adam, Really interesting. I grew up in Conyer, Teynham and Murston and would play with my friends along the sea wall, where you have filmed.

Somewhere near Elmley, in the channels around Sheppy is that ammunition boat that when it does go boom, it'll make headlines. Tom Scott did a piece on it.

I spent a year on the wreck and retrieved over 3 tonne of copper brass and stainless stee l the hydraulic ram steering gear is still on board. It was interesting that she still retained the original glass deadlights which allowed sunlight through the deck they are shaped like giant lemon squeezers take care mate,,!!

It may seem obvious, but I can't overstate how much you can learn from going up and talking to random old people. Believe it or not, there's probably nothing they would rather talk about than the past. Hurry up, it's a limited time offer.

Those could be minesweepers, as minesweepers have to have wooden hills because steel hulls can be vulnerable to sea mines . It's the magnetic fields, I think. But really, there's probably someone around who remembers most of this. Ask around.😊

@@Adam-Gates-Mudlark there’s a bit of confusion over James ll’s capture. The way I understand it he was heading to France but crossed from the mainland to the island in disguise and was recognised by the people of Elmley who robbed him and turned him in to the authorities at Faversham but this is disputed by Faversham who claim they caught him, there’s even a plaque there claiming this. I think you said there was a winch across the water at Harty but that’s further along. Current thoughts are there have been 5 kingsferry bridges but could have been more. I don’t mean to pick holes mate, it’s a great thing you’re doing. All the best. By the way I’m very local on the mainland side and have been researching this particular area for many years now and there’s so much more😃👍
