Pethericks found a similar type of “Leather” paper on their chateau walls, and tracked down the company who made it and showed a bit of how it was made. Lincrusta is likely the company.. They are still in business and were very excited about seeing the paper.. Michael had larger pieces and left them a sample. I don’t know if they were going to create it again but, they may be, and you could possibly partner up. The related Vlog was on Michael’s “Doing It Ourselves” channel from a year ago. Brilliant!

It was originally made for & put on the walls of that AMAZING huge formal dining room ...I think the walls were painted red above the paneling. The old Lincrusta must have made it a very dark room, but it was large enough perhaps to carry it off. The one Stephanie has is much prettier in my opinion with shades of turquoise & is much lighter in color. It would be WONDERFUL to reproduce it!! If Stephanie went to the Lincrusta factory she could make a show similar to the one Michael did. It was so interesting, but I don't know if he followed through to reproduce his Lincrusta pattern/faux leather embossed wallpaper. @@americanwoman9342

@Sgirl

I think it's just a dirt floor. I know from watching so many of these channels that they used to just lay floors over a thick layer of mud for insulation. There may have been wood or tile over it originally, which has since been removed. I kept stopping the video and enlarging it to see if I could see what flooring was in there, and it looked like it was just compacted dirt 😮

The loom could be repurposed by putting into a bedroom to hold extra blankets or comforters or towels in a large bathroom Or maybe in the laundry room.😊 I'm all for rephrasing, but I think with the state of the mini chest of drawers and all.the projects in the works, it should be tossed as well as the mattress for the child's bef I shudder to think what's living in it Toss the old pram too. I hope you plan to decorate and use this rooms and not let them fill with clutter again. Let Dave clean one each week. That will allow you to see if more debris accumulates to investigate the cause.

Watching Stephanie's and Michael's attic room clearing I was thinking that Isabelle needed to be there to keep up a strict and lively pace but then Stephanie cleared the air and the attic with a wrap-up of all the work actually done outside of filming for the vlog. How many more rooms are there in the Chateau that are like this? The ones that you have to repair to use. I would love to see a video of all the Chateau rooms that need work before you can use them, and maybe an idea of what you would do with them. I love an empty room. You can dream of what it will be in the future. I love Marie's haul! The reddish orange dress will look so pretty on her. And I also love seeing Michael Potts there. He is family and he has such an interesting life, photographing races and all. And when he does things like making bread pudding and baking, it's fun to see that.

Each step in major renovations needs planning , permissions and cash. Lots of cash. The Chapel is soaking up Lot . Each project completed, eg the heating, needs big investment. Smaller, unnessescary works must wait. Patrons days would need a wad of cash, the marquees, tge tables, food, drinks. Like throwing three weddings in a row. Stephanie has said the terrace and Grand salon are this year. The Grand Salon alone is a huge matter, demolishing the upper rooms and stabilising the floor/ceiling. Then the panelling can happen. The rooms avove rebuilt. The lake works will be coming , eventually. Be patient, be kind.

Isabelle looked adorable in that lovely sun hat. I hope Stephanie let her take it. Percy looked so dapper. It's wonderful that he's recovering so well.🙏 I heard Simon's name mentioned earlier, but I don't recall seeing him until the end. He must have arrived later. Michael, I'm shocked that you would allow someone else to pick out your ties, girlfriend or not. I hope it was an act of desperation. Ties are such personal expressions of men's personalities. It's like wearing your heart around your neck rather than on your sleeve. I've helped countless men find the 'perfect' tie/s. Harem Scar'em, Stephanie, I'm Dreaming about Jeannie! You were really channeling Barbara Eden! I adored her. You know Chateau Love's creator's KZfaq algorithm will be getting a serious boost after this. Stephanie, you mention old home movies, VHS tapes, etc. Have you considered sending them off to a company that will digitize them and return them to you? That way you'll have a safe, digital copy for viewing anytime you want on your laptop or other device, but still keep the originals safe. I'm sure there are companies in France that do this. The one I know of in the US is called Southtree, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

That leather like paper could be either Anaglypta, which was embossed heavy paper, or Lincrusta, which was a linoleum product. Both were hugely popular in the late 19th century. I've used a lot of anaglypta, and have finished it to look like leather. It hides the flaws in damaged walls nicely. Michael Petherick did a video about Lincrusta some time back, since it was originally on the dining room walls of their chateau, and he was looking to have it reproduced, since it is still manufactured. Thanks for brightening a rather bleak day. Chateau Diaries therapy always works!

Those rooms would make a great appartment indeed! The tiny Empire style commode isn't just random miniature furniture, it's probably what we call in French a "chef d'oeuvre" in the original sense of the word: at the end of their training an apprentice cabinet maker would create a small size version of a piece of furniture that would be reviewed & approved by the guilt. That was the final exam to show off their skills and validate the training. It's a lovely thing to have, and quite emotional as this was a milestone in someone's life and career! Clean it, restore it and cherish it please :)
