I stumbled onto Time Team in 2012 on youtube and I can't describe how much it has meant to me. I've learned so much and every time I watch an episode, it's like being wrapped in a warm blanket. The whole cast feels like family.

I saw a video of him doing a Zoom talks at Malmesbury (I think) last fall. He seems well! I love him to pieces too. A true born archeologist!

You guys need to do a long episode where you spend like 2 weeks or a month on a big site. I REALLY enjoyed the castle building episodes, and all of these stories are SO interesting!!

Counterintuitively, the housing development may have actually preserved the site! Imagine if Basil Brown had been allowed to dig more using the methods common in his day...

@@danh6720 Actually once he did...can't remember the episode, but to quote Tony as best I remember: "Channel 4 does things exactly the opposite of the BBC. When BBC does a historical show, they bring in noted historians; when Channel 4 did the same, they brought in Baldric!"

Such a shame that Mr. brown in the 1950's drew up plans with imagination mostly and not much else, and what else he DID find he removed! OMG! So happy that after all the digs, Phil and others finally found walls and the underground Roman heating system. Awesome !! Always wondered IF they ever put all the dirst and grass back, AFTER the 3 days were up.. glad they did:-)

Are those houses not built with basements? Are the foundations deep enough to damage the hidden remains, or are these houses built only at surface level like a slab foundation?

It is possible Basil Brown just thought that what remained of the villa would get destroyed or covered by the housing estate and construction anyway, so might as well take everything to learn as much as he could. The "inventive" record keeping is just inexcusable though.

It was done in the 50s where a lot of rebuilding had to happen, and as much as I love history, people having a place to live is more important.

I think the builders hauled it away to avoid future explorations. Check the local dump sites.

I just love how in nearly every episode we see of 'Time Team' John seems to mention that the site is 'Nightmare' for his Geophys team. And of course Basil Brown is famous for leading the initial archaeologial dig at Sutton Hoo.

I'm gonna be honest i think it's terrible that the authorities did not care about a roman villa being there. Like seriously "Oh look an ancient roman villa, very useful for archeology! Better bulldoze it fast."

Hi guys these stone markings in rocks are imprints from deterirated items the rock has petrified or melted and fused these imprints. wtach the channel called: wise up. it makes so much more sense than the narrative we have been fed since schooliing.
