Apologies for the ongoing sound and video editing issues. Its been making the process of editing these videos extremely challenging and time consuming and I've strived to produce the best quality I can.
This is a review of the Hotel Morris in Sydney.
I stayed here from 3 nights whilst Jo was at a conference. She stayed here for 5 nights. It was very close to the conference venue and Chinatown with all its eateries and well as the World Square mall and Museum Station and Hyde Park. Darling Harbour is just over a 15 minute walk away as well.
It is a 4 star hotel that really felt like a 3 star hotel, given its age and small rooms. It cost around AUD $218 per night excluding breakfast to stay here, so reasonable compared to other hotels in the Sydney CBD.
Originally opened as Hotel Morris in 1929, it was Australia's tallest hotel for about 20 years. It fell into disrepair and became a boarding house until a major renovation and re-opening in mid 2023 as a new art deco boutique hotel. The hotel is run by Accor and was only 5 months old when we stayed.
Being an Accor member meant complimentary bottle water (filled up at he bar when empty) and welcome drinks. Also dinner was 50% off - not drinks unfortunately.
The rooms are quite small in width but the upgraded room we stayed in was quite long. Bed and pillow were comfortable and the air conditioner quite and effective. Bathroom great with a large shower and the room has tea and coffee making facilities and a mini bar (not stocked).
I would say that the lack of a desk or chair was disappointing (there was a low backless and useless small seat and table) as the only place to rest in the room was on the bed. Design over function I think.
The breakfast on offer was meagre and we were glad we did not include this. There were several good café's nearby that did good breakfasts.
We ate at the ground floor restaurant. It was funky and good. Service was quick, food good if the menu was a bit limited. I'm glad we got 50% off the dinner bill because it would have been quite expensive without this discount. I think there is better value to be had elsewhere to be honest.
All in all a good experience and an affordable price for what it is - I'd just eat elsewhere. Recommended.
