Check out my new video diving into why the British Museum still holds onto African Arts from the colonial era. We're on a journey across Europe exploring African arts, artifacts, and history, and stumbled upon the mysterious Head of Ife, taken from Nigeria in the 1930s by a British Journalist and now lives in London. Do you reckon it's time to send these pieces back home? Stay tuned for more episodes digging into Europe's stash of cultural goodies! 🌍✨ #DecolonizeArt

Nice piece Yemi 👍🏾 Art is beautiful, and it's important for the world to appreciate its beauty. However, I believe that indigenous historical artworks should primarily be preserved and showcased in their home countries. This way, they can be celebrated and honored within their cultural context.

Thanks for your comment Bibi. I agree with you. My only problem however is that these arts and artefacts have a long history of not being well taken care off on the continent and even cases where they were easily let go. On the other hand, these works have survived different generations in these foreign museums. its conflicting

It’s bittersweet, why were these artefacts given away so easily? And why can’t they be given back to its true custodians?

Thanks for your comment. I think there is an issue that should be addressed. One of why it was let go so easily. Or at least thats how the history was recorded. I am curious to look more into why it happened.

They wouldn’t have ever left their home country if well valued and taken care of right from time. I think they’re in perfectly safe hands, yes! we might get jealous of the attention it’s getting over there but the origin can never be changed.

Our artifacts do not belong in foreign prisons. They belong to their places of origin. Their continuous display in the British museum and other museums not African. They should be returned home!

Thanks for your comment Akin. I do agree with you. I would like to know your thoughts on the state of our own museums back here and how they are not properly taken care of. Also situations like this where important pieces are taken for granted an easily let go of
