Uncut Pete Doherty Interview: Prison, Drugs and Kate Moss (2006)

On 10 February 2006, Peter Doherty invited Channel 4 News to spend the evening with him and his band Babyshambles as they prepared to play their first gig since Doherty's release from prison. Having spent 13 nights in HMP Pentonville on remand, Doherty was ordered to attend a drug rehabilitation course. Channel 4's Emily Reuben asked Doherty about his time in prison, whether he planned to stay off drugs for good, and his relationship with his ex-girlfriend, supermodel Kate Moss. He also performed an impromptu acoustic rendition of Babyshambles' new song, Revelations.
Stranger in my Own Skin, a documentary charting Peter Doherty's battle with addiction, was released on 9 November 2023. The acclaimed songwriter also recently appeared on the BBC series Louis Theroux Interviews..., during which he spoke to Theroux about his life and career. Meanwhile, the Libertines have released a new single, Run Run Run, ahead of their first album in nine years, All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade, scheduled for release in March 2024.

It's difficult to watch someone in the grips of addiction, having myself felt and still feeling the strength of that grip! Without the drugs, his music and poetry would most likely be vastly different. Kind of like a sliding doors type situation. I like to believe all paths lead to a purposeful outcome and it's great to see him nowadays, still on medication to curb those cravings for drugs, but hopefully in a place where he can eventually close the door on those demons for good. Love ya Pete! 👊

Addiction is an awful condition and im glad he seems to be over that these days, but as to what people see in him as a musician god only knows , middle of the week jam night at a back street boozer slurring off key lyrics on an out of tune acoustic at best . Its a funny old world.

Your a stu'pid person for saying this. Have you actually thought about why he probably ran off? Hears some real reasons. Pete doherty didnt kill him. . 1st Pete doherty had herion & crack in his possession & new the police were going to be called that night & he was clearly worried he's was going to get searched and arrested. 2nd he'd already be arrested a few times before this & didn't want another charger. 3rd he's was a herion addict & NO ONE ADDICTED TO HERION WANTS TO BE RATTLING IN A CELL. As an ex herion addict I can tell you I would do anything to avoid the police as my worst nightmare would be withdrawing from herion in a police cell.
