lol, it would be cooler on the side, but just a very very slight difference, that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Especially, if its ramen, they add pork fat (seabura), which is very very hot, which floats to the very top layer of the soup, disabling your moms little secret.

That works for normal soup-plates (the porcelain would cool the soup, just a little, by the side of the plate), but I doubt that would work with asian soup-cups. Pour the same amount of soup into a western- and an asian plate, and you'll notice that the asian one would stay hot for much longer.
