About Divertliving
American and Thai travel couple left the career in military and finance to become travel story teller. We met in 2015 in South Korea when Jimmy was in U.S. army and Tah studied for bachelor degree. In 2017, September, we both started traveling and created ' divertliving ' to share with world that we are not rich, but we can still travel well and enjoy our life. The content is uploaded almost everyday, providing real travel experience, traveling tips, struggle we have been through while traveling. You will see how it is like traveling as a mixed couple, it is greatly challenging in terms of cultural difference ( and so many more differences )

You think so maybe is good for you ,but in reality is no place like home I love USA 🇺🇸 and it’s nice when you make all that wonderful money and live the American dream and can afford to be able to travel and see others countries, I think if you can work in Bali and have a job and get pay like the locals with their local pay rate minimum wage good for you, let not confuse how much money we make in USA and how much abundance we have , at this moment my family and I are in Australia and still thinking is no place like home 💕

You can actually start building, say a pension saving amount to around US$ 200-300 thousand, then retire in Indonesia (preferably in the more western friendly regions with great scenery such as Bali, North Sulawesi, central & east Java, Yogyakarta, Bangka Belitung, etc) & enjoy life without much fuss.

When we go looking for restaurants, the fastest way to search for the price ranges is in terms of the "Nasi Goreng Index", NGI in short. The only thing you have to do, is to look at their NGI. If the nasi goreng is above 25K, the rest of the menu will probably be expensive as well. :)

I've been reading your posts for a few months and what really impresses me is how much the quality has improved over time. That's not only on an audio-visual level but the presentation as well. Tai you seemed a little camera shy on the early videos. But now you are brimming with confidence and full of energy. Jimmy you do a great job too. I'm a frugal person and admire those who spend their money wisely not on stupid stuff. Dude you have even me beat in the cheap skate dept. But more power to you if it helps you keep on traveling. You both are sincere, obviously love traveling the world and are always improving the quality of your content which makes you one of my YT favorites. Keep up the good work!

Definitely the main thing I struggled with while being on Bali for over a month was not being able to cook. Eating out all the time just became a drain when all you want do i relax in the comforts of your own home, maybe with some friends, round a table and enjoy your own food. Eventually I found a place that had an outdoor kitchen and started cooking all the dishes I loved having at home. Theres only so much nasi goreng a man can eat lol. It was a delight to my own carbonara again. Thanks for the video. :)

My first visit abroad was to Bali to attend a veterinary conference in 1988. I was very cautious and apprehensive as during that time sex tourism was quite obvious in all over South East Asia, everyone wanted to copy Thailand style to attract tourism. I have been traveling extensively in SoutheastAsia since 2004 , just came back from a 30 day trip in Phuket , must tell you guys , if you are gonna try to save money on food & drinks , prepare yourselves for some nasty diarrhea which can occur multiple times during your visit and will ruin your trip .. The best thing to do ? Completely avoid eating any kind of meat , unless you are in a restaurant in one of those resorts , avoid drinks with ice in them even at those nice resorts , and avoid any fruit that has already been cut .. If you are gonna stay there for 30 days or more , the best thing to do is to rent a place with a kitchen and cook your own food , or eat at the same restaurant that you think is clean ...
@DivertLiving
@DivertLiving 5 жыл бұрын
Ahh i think you are very wrong. We eat cheap local food everyday in every country we visit. Of course you have to watch out how clean the place is and how they prepare the food but you will be fine. Also i agree with you about the 30 day thing with a kitchen. Thats why we do that. Because its cheaper. Thanks for watching though! have a great day!

All you're saying is true, i live in Bali since 1995 have a house near sunset road Seminya. And 2006 i move to Jakarta until now bcs my husband work in Jakarta. We are still back and fort between Bali and Jakarta, and i could see how much different the price are. All their fruits n veggies are a lot cheaper and fresh then in Jakarta. I love going to local market, buy fruits, veggies n meet and cook at home. We only eat out once a while. You could be ended up spend lots of Rupiah's if you want. So depending on of whats life style you wanna to be while you live in Bali.

Just get a good friend who is local. My buddy in Guyana would always negotiate the price for both of us while I was around the corner or across the street... I’d show up and the other locals would laugh while the person selling me whatever at the local price would hang his head.... sometimes I still tipped afterwards without my buddy seeing as he would leave first to the next thing.... looking like you are frugal and getting the same deal the locals get is one thing, but never work too hard for it; to the locals we are rich, you don’t want to look like you are trying to get over on them....

Hi, I'm from Indonesian too but living in Java island. I like your video 😊 You guys explain Bali clearly and so well. That's true. You can live there as cheap as you want and expensive as well depends on your lifestyle and taste. Try to live in a quiet area and you will never want to leave Bali. It's so peaceful. Have you guys tried Bali durian? It tastes so good. It's different from another countries durian (the smell,texture and taste). Anyway good luck for your next journey to this island. Hope you guys have more exciting experience there.

Great video and great value, thanks for that! But, to enter the rice terraces and the gate isn't free anymore. Like almost everywhere in Bali you have to pay certain fees. It isn't much, but ranges between 10k and 50k, depending on how touristy the place is. And those two are really touristy. The entrance fee of 10-20k for most waterfalls is true, BUT if you want to swim and cliff jump at some of the waterfalls, you need a local guide which starts at around 125k per person. If you don't hire a local guide and get caught jumping or swimming, you'll pay a penalty of 250k. We've seen it happen. And the guides even call the police if you think you can trick yourself out of it.
