yeah mbtl especially has been done really dirty with its reputation. its been my favorite fighting game ever, but the lack of playerbase makes it hard to feel good about playing it. i dont like needing to find someone to play with in discord, i just want to click "find match." thats why ive really been enjoying gbvsr, but gbvsr is closer to sf than it is mbtl. really hoping uni 2 will fill that niche for me, but mbtl will always hold a special place in my heart ☹

the reputation thing is the biggest shame to me, i love both games a ton and its just really unfortunate that melty has its reputation for no good reason really

Having to have why shield is 'ok' or 'not as dumb' now explained to people specifically without it being clearly obvious in MBTL did enough damage on its own. It's still an RPS mini game, it's still in the game, and you have to put in a considerable amount of work before it suddenly clicks as to why it's not that much of an issue anymore. There's a whole host of hoops to jump through of getting good before you realize that, yeah, it's not as disgustingly prominent as it was on launch. That's just too much to ask of folks and I don't blame anyone. Meanwhile UNIST 2 looks like the same game folks wanted from UNICLR, but with actual net code and not much else changed to it save plenty of QOL. Sounds like a win win to folks that play it.

I don't live anywhere close to a local so the rollback issues was what made me give up on TL, I even gave it another chance after some patches but I still had issues and the matchmaking pool was super small so I stopped playing after that since none of my friends even bought the game. I think the shield mechanic is awesome and can lead to some really hype moments. I am praying that there wont be any rollback problems with the UNI2 launch, its the only thing I can think of that could ruin the momentum the game has.

I think another thing going against MBTL perception was shield. At launch it was overbearing sure, like many vanilla versions of fighting games with mechanics. But nowadays thanks to updates, the risk/reward of shield has been greatly modified so it's a lot less overwhelming and volatile, and you have a lot better chance to beat players who just try to shield everything. Despite those changes however, you still see people complain about shield. Some people complain cause it's frame 1, but MBAACC which everyone says they prefer also has frame 1 shields. Some people probably just dont know that shield has been adjusted, so they just mimic all the things they heard about vanilla MBTL. Others complain about the canned RPS followups, but it's kinda a generous system for the attacker to have another interaction chance to beat the defender, despite hitting the shield. And also necessary, cause guaranteed punish on TL shield sounds way worse. While I do understand how it can feel constraining with the followups (almost like a much less annoying SC6 reversal edge), I don't think anyone not really into MBTL understood the expanded shield RPS game. Anecdotally I've noticed people casually playing MBTL think the only options out of shield are A & B followups, but they completely neglect other actions, like delayed actions, BC escape at ANY point, tap shield when above 50% MD, chicken block to punish B, or simply do nothing. There's a ton of options in shield, but the way it is perceived is just "guess A or B followup" which is a shame

People say uni is a good game is like people saying bbcf or plusR is a good game. The amount of ppl who say that..... But dont actually play at all..... Meh i dont care. I just hope it does well for the ppl who will play it after like..... Feb ends lol. 🎉

I think a big aspect was also that UNI had a lot of non anime players play it. At the time where you were either a capcom player, NRS players, anime player where the lines didn't cross over as often players who played other games looked at UNI and was like "This isnt anime like those other games this is like Street Fighter where its more ground based" so a lot of people approached it with this mindset.

The story of undernight remind to me kind of fate stay night holy grail war without the grail without the servents but something alternative not so unique just to get going,Uni created as spiritual successor to melty people love it or hated,my self i do like melty more because i love games with more lore to them and melty is kinda dark i like that twist ,but that just me, thank you for the video

I just pre-ordered UNIB 2 & Tekken 8 this morning but the only thing I wish UNIB 2 had was Cross Play but I'm guessing because of budget reasons that wasn't a option??? 🤦🏿🤷🏿

Melty is fine also. UNIB is more accessible with characters who have more mass appeal to SF players. Both are dope.

Six minutes into the video and the main focus is on melty blood's reputation. No focus on gameplay or highlighting what's exciting about each game. More of a video talking about how people view the games, rather than focusing on the games themselves. I'm out.
