Happy Holidays to you and yours, too! :) I've seen some interesting videos on Colorado gold-prospecting so I'm sure there's some of that yellow stuff near you. In the spring when everything thaws, be sure to have your sluice ready 'cause by then, I'm sure you'll have more info on where you can go sluicing there in the Centennial State. @@goldphenoms5139 Hi Saul I have a book called where to find gold in Colorado. It is written by Kevin Singel. It has lots of places to go to find gold. The closest place is south near Pueblo. The North to Denver. There are a Bunch of places up in the mountains west of Colorado Springs. Most of those are 50 miles or more away. The GPAA club here in town has some trips planned this spring. I hope to make a lot of them. I know that there is one planned up in Denver area. Believe it or not there is a stream up there that is almost Downton Denver. One I know of has trails that go by it and a train real close too. I am not sure which one the club is going to go to. I have a fellow who lives in Denver and he has invited me to go on one of his prospecting trips this spring. That should be fun. There I go rambling on again. Later

I've been thinking about this question for the last two days, and the short answer is there is no easy answer that I know of. A lot of research is involved, including trips to your local Hall of Records, Recorder's office, learning about the Township and Range system / Public Land Survey System (aka, PLSS), visiting various websites such as www.thediggings.com and so forth. If I ever find an easy answer, I'll let you folks know! Does anybody else have an easy way to uncover the information for the original question above? (Finding yourself on the business end of a Colt .45 while accidentally claim-jumping does not count!)

I know this isn't the correct answer, but I at least feel like that if the claim isn't marked on all four corners and in the center and on public land, it's open to prospecting.

It's a great spot to just park and relax. I never get tired of admiring the water in that location, even if it's a bit of a bottleneck, making the water accelerate through there. lol I'm sure your time was well spent. :)

In this particular episode, I was on a private claim owned by the Kern County Prospectors club. As you need permission to prospect on someone’s claim, it’s definitely in your best interest to get their permission in advance. You can do that by joining their club, just as I have. We’re a friendly group w/ lots of great info to share and good laughs virtually every time we have a meeting. See websites for meeting times/places. This last year, if I recall correctly the annual fee to join was $35. I can’t speak to the future, but that’s far cheaper than filing your own claim! Hope this helps! :)

I can appreciate your sense of skepticism, but I've never prospected on the Kern river above Lake Isabella. It's also not my style to "fake" anything. My pans would have a lot more yellow stuff if I had that quality about me, I think. Lol

My wife and i just did a bit more than a gram day at the east fork yesterday we didn't see a lot of flakes they were chunky square pieces so im not sure were you were digging at but i know some awesome spots i could show you some time if u want to give it another shot. Just hit me up.
