The site that held London’s first ever hand written note, a Roman tablet mentioning Londinio, will be opened to the public. The Roman Temple of Mithras was first uncovered in the fifties. It's now been reinstated at its original site in the City. Tolu Adeoye has been to have a look.

1800 years from now, the ruins of McDonald's on Oxford Street will be unearthed: "This was a very special, sacred religious place where people came and they performed their rituals, probably had a bit of bonding with each other and a bit of a chat..."

Uhhh...not really? England in general was a backwater province, and the moment the empire started to decline England was the first place to stop receiving soldiers and supplies, to the point that Londinuim was completely abandoned for centuries until the Normans came along and built the tower of London.

@@ilyaakadishtungha7337 Where did you get your entire fake history? If England was not there during the Roman period then how could it have been a backwater? Nor was England a province of the Roman Empire.

@@ilyaakadishtungha7337 If you meant I am not able to place your statements in to the sphere of reality then I may have agreed. But as your statements were not correct then putting them in to the real factual category was not possible. Even your bizarre statement that London was abandoned is not correct. It may not have been the Capital of Englang but it was not abandoned. Winchester was English the Capital.

I remember that building with the temple out the front... it was one of the ugliest buildings in London and such a depressing place to put the temple. That broach is lovely.

How did a temple that presumably used to be at street level, end up 7 meters underground?

Mithras was a Parthian (Persian) deity adopted by Romans. He became the god of legionary soldiers and business men. As the Mithraeum is in the City of London he'd make a suitable god for hedge fund managers and stockbrokers.

Mithras is actually the constellation of Orion, who is kiIIing the precessional constellation of Taurus. This would have happened in 1750BC, according to the precession of the equinox - when Taurus ceded to Aries in precession. It is the same story as Gilgamesh (Gilgamesh is also Orion). And we do have an ancient narrative. Arthurian Legend (13th century) says that Pompey the Great brought the cult of Mithras back from Anatolia, during the Pontic war. And the name for the cult was derived from the Pontic king Mithradates VI - and nothing to do with the Persian Mithra. According to Arthurian Legend the ‘Mount Olympus’ mentioned is actually Gibraltar - a Pillar of Hercules. There was a large cave in the Pillar (a Mithraeum), and Pompey defeated the Pontus Pirates there. Ralph.

Ralph Ellis A good comment. But may I ask you what you mean by 'Arthurian Legend (23th century)'? Were you meaning the fable of Geoffrey of Monmouth who made up so much that for some the fakery was obvious.

EVERYTHING Geoffrey of Monmouth wrote was fake. His "History of the Kings of Britain" was as historically true as the Da Vinci Code, although like the latter it WAS a best seller (in the middle ages).

@arx3516 Taurus is part of the Zodiac. And since Orion is always seen with Taurus, that's what the OP is referring to when he says "Precession of the Equinoxes."

My phrase: Without Greece there wouldn't have been democracy in Rome.. Without Roman Empire there wouldn't have been London... Without London there wouldn't be the British Empire.. Without British Empire, there wouldn't be American Empire ,100+ Modern day countries.. After Chat openai autocorrect and fact check of above phrase.. "The ancient Greeks are credited with developing the concept of democracy, which later influenced the Roman Republic. The Roman Empire, which controlled a large portion of Europe and western Asia, eventually fell, leading to the rise of London as a major world city. The British Empire, which was centered in London, was one of the largest and most influential empires in history and played a significant role in shaping the modern world. Many modern-day countries, including the United States, were directly or indirectly influenced by the British Empire."

A Mithraic temple is below Roslin Temple as well. The Sun God temple and there has only been one religion since the beginning: and that is to rebind our dislocated soul with Divinity within ourselves--the small consciousness to the BIG CONSCIOUSNESS--and make continuous love --hieros gamos --with God! Not he way it was done in the Da Vinci Code or Eyes Wide Shut - but within at X marks the spot!
