Speculation on the traffic lights rebuffed! A close up view of a segment!! Thoughts on our Latitude defining daylight length!!! And more speculation about what units the HS2 viaduct is designed using, Imperial or Metric? I just don't know!!

Hi Peter the Rock, Enjoying your videos. I was at the site today, Wednesday 5th June and the 'London ' end of Dominique is now on the landward pier with the next segment ready loaded to place. I visited 'all' your vantage points to take my own photos and spotted the car in the lane...a fisherman I presume. Also went to the 'traffic lights'. The lights automatically changed as I approached from the North side but I had to press the button on the South side for the lights to change to green. Having said all of that I have to say that good as all the videos and photos are they do not do justice to the amazing sights of Dominique and the viaduct approaches. I would urge any of your subscribers / viewers to get down there as soon as possible as I don't thick that Dominique will be in place for much longer.

Sheryl!! Hi!! Fantastic to 'meet' another enthusiast and apologies if I've said that to you before. Yes the viaduct is quite beautiful, especially the way it curves round. However I'm saddened that Dominique is reaching the end of his / her stint, and hope that he/she can be as useful elsewhere in the world! Probably not Baltimore, but you never know!

The start of the video where it says "dogs must be on a lead" is quite apt considering the amount of lost dogs there seems to be around there. The whole structure does look really impressive now these sections have been built, it reminds me of the M25 bridge in Chorleywood where you can stand underneath it which you indeed did in one of your videos. Im sure the centrfugal force on the bridge must be enormous when the trains go over it. Im sure this spot will forever be called Peter the Rock span.

They're probably strays from Milton Keynes that have run away because their owners don't or can't afford to feed them.

Yeah. Mouse, Piglet, Twiglet, Jack ... all vanished. We need a proper investigation.

I reckon I heard Piglet when I was under the bridge at Maidenhead. But wasn't sure how to address the owner about it...

Yes Peter great fun. Eventually when the two traffic lights become obsolete or misused, and removed along with the GUC "duck feeding" perch and roadway, will then your Southern access to Dominique peering be curtailed. I surmise the only other Southern viewing would be by passenger on nearby non-HS 100mph trains "hurtling" by on the old line to the south ? So these may be the last languidly days sneeking about slowly under Dominique's skirts; she will be a fond memory now enshrined here. Thank You what viewing pleasure for us train afficionado. You are solidly our well grounded man on the scene.

Carlos!! You are so kind, many thanks!! My amateur bumbling around, and frequently wrong conjectures, may be compensated by my enthusiasm! And your good words are a priceless encouragement!

I did a short video from the old Chiltern line to the south, but it didn't show much. Maybe next time...

Flattered, Sir Rock of Uxbridge 👍 I think Dews Lane should be your next port of call. You'll get a great view from there as the Dom comes in to land. The Hillingdon Outdoor Activity Centre is still open for deliveries so disguise yourself as a delivery bloke. Tuck a canoe under your arm or something. Keep 'em coming.

There was a tribute program to Rik Mayhall on BBC last night, showing some of his memorable scenes. They include the Flash canoe scene with QE1 in Blackadder. So thanks for the thoughts Dave. Al I need now is a canoe, a high Vis jacket, and a giraffe. Easy!

The camera sees you and everything else as an object. It is programmed to change the lights if it sees a moving object above a certain size. Although you are a moving object, you do not satisfy the size criteria, and therefore the lights do not change. On the subject of nights at the equator: 'Been there and yes; it gets dark between 6 and 7 PM every day, as well as getting light between 6 and 7 AM every morning. The segment has notches down the side because it is a Spanish segment; as in "buenos notches". By the accent you used I'd say that it was designed in Somerset... Cornwall even. - The West Country residents must have been overjoyed to find that there was, at long last, work available in their area.

I do like Cornwall, and next time I'm there, hope to talk to the locals about the wonders of Imperial units. Wouldn't it be great if HS2 progressed at a furlong a fortnight! But hard pressed Dominique could hardly achieve that speed!

At the crossing of the Grand Union canal we see the buttress piers each side of the canal these act as shock absorbers and spread the load of the trains if they have to break from 185 mph, this load on the viaduct could be up to 9,000 tonnes horizontally... From the HS2 big book.....
