Carlos Martínez is an undocumented Mexican who came with his family to Los Angeles, with the same dream as all immigrants who come to this land: to have a better life. He wants a journey full of opportunities that allow him to give his children what he could never had in his home country.
However, it will be a difficult journey for Carlos. He is an honest and hardworking man who will have to overcome financial hardship, underpaid hard labor, discrimination, great emotional losses and the constant fear of getting caught by Immigration and the danger of losing his beloved children: Luis and Rodrigo. Rodrigo, his eldest son, arrived with Carlos and his late wife. Luis enjoys citizenship rights since he was born in the United States.
Throughout this journey, Carlos will face the difficult situation of losing Rodrigo, when he enters the powerful network of gangs that plague most of the city and a great part of the country. These groups terrorize the population with violent events, like killing and drug trafficking, battles for power, territory and cultural differences. They recruit young people with the promise of being part of a family, and bringing them a quick and safe solution to the tough situations experienced by many immigrants, like Carlos and his family.
Rodrigo falls for these empty promises and disappears without a trace. Carlos, fearing his eldest son might be dead, won’t rest until he finds Rodrigo and reunites with him. Meanwhile, he will try to protect his other son, Luis, at all costs, giving him the opportunity of having a different future. With every action, Carlos will teach his son a valuable lesson to become an upright and honest man.
Luis, growing up in a lower class area, and surrounded by many gangs, will often be tempted to follow the same path as his brother, Rodrigo. Carlos will do everything possible to save his children, but it will also be in those same gangs he hates so much - which snatched his eldest son away from him - where he will find great love. This love will come from someone rebellious, surrounded by danger and faithless: Adela, a young gang member who had to endure a difficult life, being forced to defend herself in the darkest streets of LA.
