Join me in the next phase of the undercarriage restoration journey with Chapter 6 of my 1968 Ford XT Falcon series!
In this episode, I continue the process of converting surface rust using DE.OX.IT, ensuring that every inch of bare metal is restored to its original condition. I also remove any remaining traces of paint preparing the undercarriage for the next stage of transformation.
I also turn my attention to the interior floor pans of the car, cleaning them in preparation for welding on the front bucket seat brace. This step involved thorough cleaning, as well as removing of old, dry, and brittle seam sealer that has long exceeded its shelf life.
Don't miss out on this chapter as we inch closer to breathing new life into my beloved Falcon!

That's a solid effort dude without a rotisserie or sand blasting.. ill never complain again about having to jack the car up to change my oil after watching you on your back. Great stuff Rob 🍻👍

Thanks for the feedback legend 👌 It's definitely been a hard slog doing this on jack stands, but I can see the light now. Next one will have to be on a rotisserie though 😂 Really don't think I'd do another one on my back....but never say never, right? Thanks again, and see you on the next one mate 😎🤙

That floor brace is basically exact to factory. They are not a snug fit to the floor profile. While you're there , cut a couple holes in behind those bolt on inspection covers at the rear of the front chassis rails . That will enable you to get in and rust proof inside the torque boxes

Great idea Greg, will definitely look to doing that idea to rust proof inside the torque boxes! You're a man with lots of knowledge, thanks legend. See you on the next one mate 😎🤙

I can’t believe how good a condition the floor is both inside and outside I think I would’ve done some form of media blast on the underside to make it aside and better Looks great 👍

Yes, the condition inside and out is almost perfect David! I'll never find something like this again, that's for sure. I agree, bead blasting would have been so much better, especially blasting it while it's on a rotisserie, but unfortunately I don't have the room to fit one in. Maybe in future on another build I have a bigger space 🤔 Thanks for the feedback and checking in - see you on the next one 😎👌

Rob, you must be proud of what you have achieved so far without a rotisserie. I found using a finger belt sander in the tight areas between the chassis and boot tank sections great any areas I couldn't get I sand blasted. I found using cheap kitchen scotch pads when metal deox treatment great, they wrapped around a screwdriver and cable tied worked well in tight area. It won't be long before you will be shooting epoxy, all the best on the restoration ☺

Definitely proud of what I've achieved Warren! It's been a mega mission but I look back over this journey and see the amount of work, and how far it's come compared to what I started with - super excited to get it to the next stages. Great tips there, thanks heaps for those! Will give them a try. Btw, your teeshirt arrived the other day...Will do my best to get it in the post this week. Thanks for the feedback and encouragement! See you on the next one mate 😎👌
