I met Peter about 6 years ago at one of his book events. He expressed the exact same views as this video then, regarding legalisation and regulation of drugs. I met him after and had a quick chat, told him I was applying for the police. He was so supportive and give me a great insight into what the job is. I’ve been an officer ~4 years now and I still think about the things he said when I met him. Even with a short length of service I can already see the failings of ‘the war on drugs’. As a patrol cop I’ve dealt with some pretty crazy situations. All in all it’s a great job, as long as you enjoy your part. Remember you’re a small cog in a big machine and do what you think is right everyday with conviction. Great video!

Crazy how different times are regarding job application processes. Out-of-the-blue, fills in a cadet application form, with presumably zero relevant experience/training/qualifications, and a few weeks later, has started a career that sets you up for life! How times have changed! The hoops you have to jump through these days, and the background checks, just to get your foot-in-the-door..... truly is a different world. (I just want to emphasise, I am not belittling this man's achievement - he's clearly extremely dedicated, talented, professional and driven, hence why he got to where he has - I'm just pointing out how different the process of *starting* a career was then, compared to now).

It’s sad that we will never see that solution to the war on drugs in our life times probably! Very cool that dude is observant enough to understand that the current, and past, methods and of handling drugs was and is an absolute joke! And their are way too many people that make boar loads of money from this war on drugs so the politicians have zero incentive to change anything.

If only govt and other decision makers could take his advice to legalise drugs. Unfortunately cause many govt’s are corrupt and it is not in their interest to legalise the industry, many powerful people would overnight lose empires built on selling drugs if addiction meanwhile average peeps lives are ruined by convictions for smoking a joints etc.

Bleksley is why the police had the mantra of filth.He does no wrong of course.Would of framed and nicked a 10 year old sweet thief.The kind of guy that creates crime rather than solves it.Claims to be some kind of robin hood.I read his book,and thought he was a good un. as i was beaten framed and bullied by people like him,i sussed that his handling of informers fits like a glove when it comes dishonourable noble corruption.I was nearly killed in police custody.You will never hear him call out what use to go on.Im a similar age and now have a degree in criminal Psycology,and this gravybeat excuse of a loser is a fraud.Ive seen right through him as ive emotionally raised my intel in the last 5years or so.Hes a major disappointment is on everything and his egos out of control.Typical copper got answers for everything but solutions for nothing. He props himself up with meds,and cant bring any new narrative to any subject.Shame you cant trust even an ex copper.☹️☹️☹️

Very interesting life story. Though I do think the modern perception of the so-called "war on drugs" is often maligned due to unrealistic expectations and goals. It is not a 'war' and thus cannot be won. We can't change human nature, but we can see that justice be done for certain harm caused. Legalization arguments fly in the face of reality and human nature- that when you subsidize/legalize something, you get more of it. And it is a fact that drugs, legal or not, do society harm.
@jack6450
@jack6450 5 ай бұрын
That’s precisely where the issue lies, when it comes to a problem of such unquantifiable magnitude as the illegal drugs market, you *can’t* effectively implement justice for the harms it causes. It doesn’t matter how many gangsters you lock up, there is simply so much money to be made in the sale and production of these substances that there will always be someone willing to risk it. It’s the policing equivalent of painting the forth bridge. Likewise you can’t effectively reduce the demand for these substances either, no matter how many public health campaigns you run people will always get curious, that is human nature.

I don't believe the government should be providing or profiting from drugs which harm or pacify people. I do believe recreational drugs could be created which would be safe and only last say an hour. Even such safe drugs would need testing in small samples for each person for a bad reaction. If a safe high was legal and a reasonable price, the illegal dangerous drugs would be pushed out until no longer a profitable business.
