In this video we look at Spectrasonics new Sonic Extension Undercurrent which came out yesterday, and whether or not it's worth spending your money on. If you like industrial, noise or dark ambient textures, Undercurrent has gloom in spades.

After checking out your video, it helped me to decide on picking this one and unclean machine for my scoring and lofi projects. I have staylight from NI which I assumed to be similar to undercurrent, but undercurrent just has so many sounds that are not only textural but dreamy pads and ethereal and deep patches that are just way above other libraries.

So I just bought Nylon Sky and Undercurrent. I'm trying hard not to get too excited about these, but damn, they are awesome for my work. I like sonic patches that don't hog the mix. These fit the bill and to say they are beautiful would be an understatement. Eric Persig and company has knocked it out of the ballpark again. I can't imagine my music without Spectrasonics and now Sonic Extension. Eric if your reading this...thank you so much!!! Great video. Very well done and gives a great overview of Extensions. Thanks so much. Great work.

@@VultureCulture Sure. Hey have you messed around with any of the Slate and Ash stuff? Thinking about grabbing Landforms, but heard that it was a bit CPU heavy. I am not a big "large template", fan, and tend to utilize my skills and less is more approach. Ex. maybe 2-3 Kontakt VI's at most and maybe less. I play a lot of stuff live in a just render it out it there is an issue, but actually no having those issues even with Omnisphere.

@@VultureCulture it’s the secret sauce that lets you create zones over the keyrange- you can load up 4 custom samples and have it cross fade like a 4 zone multi sample. Or use it to make patch level splits. Have a sound that aliases bad at the extremes- use bias to bring it down (or up) as you play across the specific keyrange. I have used it to layer 4 different rain sounds across a single patch- letting you create cool environments without hitting the multi section and stacking up multiple patches.

Number 100. Woo hoo! I don't have Omnisphere but I enjoyed your Sonic Extension reviews which are leading me to really want to pull the trigger. I'm considering trying Serum to start with. Is Serum worth it? I'm sure its not as detailed as Omnisphere. I hear most of the VST's are CPU hogs. Hoping I wont have to get a new laptop to run a DAW (Which I still haven't gotten into yet) and VST.

Serum allows using its effects on an effect channel in the mixer. There's also that ability in u-He Zebra (one of the great all time synths IMHO). It cannot currently, although I suspect it might in the future. When asked Eric seemed imply it's only a limitation currently. However you can import any audio you want and process it that way. You could run drums or even an entire track through Omni's effects that way.
