You definitely can see the yellow! It makes the red pop so much! But I would still like to see a side by side of you just using reds, till you get to the shadows and glazing. Just so we can see the difference and how much the yellow helps to bring life to the painting :)

I never thought about using yellow as the first layer. I usually just use that as a Glaze towards the end. But I'm gonna try that. Thank you!

I literally do this all the time, even with colored pencils. I was in an art class for many years and this was how we were taught to build colors. Starting with just a red could cause the painting to look flat and lack vibrancy (which is really challenging for water colors anyway), but the yellow base and lighter orange-reds really help.

How do you distinguish between the darker shade that comes from the pigment and stays from the darker tone that comes from the wetness, which fades? Just wait and dry and maybe add some additional layer? Or can you eyeball what is going to be too dark and what is going to evaporate?

in true, it even makes sense to use yellow, since when we talk about light we often talk about daylight which is yellow 🤔

It's called a heat gun for crafting - it can be used for embossing or shrink wrap or drying paint. Unlike a hair dryer it uses less air so you don't have to worry about it moving the paint around like you would with a hair dryer as much. They have higher powered heat guns that are shaped more like a gun usually so when searching just add crafting it should come up Amazon has mini ones for $10. Hope this helps
