I like how you find appreciation in all these things. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but a lot of guys on KZfaq only talk about whatever is the absolute best of the best. All good, but does do a dis-service to a lot of the other stuff out there.

I don't want to take anything away from the mainstay demo discs, they are the top discs for a reason, but I do feel there's a lot of good content out there. I just wanted to share some other stuff people may not think is good, but it is.

My new test/demo disc for audio is now the 4k Twister disc. That sucker rips from the first scene on out and I LOVE IT. I was actually not impressed with my sound system until I watched that movie lol

The sound on Prometheus Is magnificent. Like the cave at the beginning, the reverb Is so spacious and realístic, but that I just one small exampIe, i agree with you! Some other underrated titles aré Hot Fuzz, and The Grand Budapest hotel.

For me i have a few Tron 1982 Laserdisc or the Blu Ray . Great color and black levels and a great wide sound stage taken from the 70mm print . The THX robot Tex before Toy Story movie on the Toy Story 2 pack on DVD ..Great Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. 2 of Peter Hyams Films Outland 1981 and Narrow Margin 1990 Blu Ray's...Great black levels contrast and a very film like picture.

Hello great video so just wondering you state you use just the DVD for the Hubble Imax 3D. Not the Blu-ray you may not know that a 3D Blu-ray usually can be played in 2D. And I know your DVD version is being up-scaled, but would probably look so much better starting at 1080P resolution. Well again great video will look at checking out some of your recommendations.

I appreciate the feedback. A lot of the 3D to 2D conversation is dependent on the player. I have 2 players here, both Panasonic. My regular BD85, wouldn't do the conversation. That's my daily use player. So I just went along with the DVD disc. It wasn't until I read your comment that I tried it in my UB420. Despite getting an error message, it ended up playing in 2D. So I appreciate info; you learn something new everyday. Admittedly, I never tried a 3D disc prior to this because I have no interest in it. But it's good to know that 3D can be converted to 2D in my UB420. Thanks.

Oh wow!! It appears as if I get to be first in the comments. 1st off. Great topic and again a refreshing change to see some film passion and history going into the choices, thank you. It is becoming a bit stagnant watching some channels praise Godzilla X Kong just because your subwoofer will fall on the floor each week. Some great choices and I can get behind your no:1 as I've used it for 3d before and I have a DTS sample disc which is used for the audio demos when some drones fly around the ship mapping the perimeter and perhaps coincidentally, I've used the crew waking up in Alien as a test for contrast and grain as a go-to for a new format, VHS, Laserdisc, DVD etc. So might need to pop Prometheus in again for a test run. For the upcoming audio video? You may one of these already, but... I always try and have a high contrast in demonstration from Fury, Ready P1 etc down to a quite scene. I accidentally found a clip I use from the same DTS demo disc. It's from the DTS 5.1 blu Ray of ET. It's when Elliott finds ET in the wardrobe and starts speaking and it's a nothing moment, I always wondered why DTS used it on their promo and then I went to test a DAC and the room Elliott was speaking in, collapsed. The air around the voice sounded smaller. Once I noticed I could judge how natural his voice sounded, as though he was in the room . that allowed me to hear between a 48khz LPCM converter vs an older DTS to LPCM DAC much more than a massive bombastic soundtrack.

@@2ndHandHomeTheater No worries. I guess I slightly side tracked explaining the ET clip. I was hopefully trying to perhaps, maybe, inspire an audio clip that you may know of that isn't always just every channel exploding at once. Some other choices I used to use were the opening attack from Darkness falls from the Tooth fairy or in Titanic when Rose is finding Jack and the lights go out and you can only her breath in Darkness and you hear the Hull bend from the pressure. Clips that can have atmosphere or environment just as much another big demo that you expect to impress. If that makes sense? Don't get me wrong, not saying all 5 need to be this, but maybe just 1 tucked between the Private Ryan clips etc. Either way. Am looking forward to the next one. Notification bell is at the ready

Yeah, I get where you're coming from. I'm planning on having both real loud & bombastic audio discs and some more quiet & moody / atmospheric discs. The only issue I can tell I'll run into is actually playing audio from the films in my video, that seems to trigger copyright claims more often than video clips. So we'll see what happens.

Cool video! Yes, there is a 4k Prometheus. Mine arrived this week and i need to test it out. Agree. Its not a popular movie, it took me a few views to really appreciate the movie.

I'm a huge Alien franchise fan, it's my favorite series of movies, so I was excited despite the mixed reactions from fans. Regardless of what people may think of the film, it's a quality demo disc for audio and video.

I have 3 different disc all dvd’s I have the last one I bought 4k 2018 drs demo disc Dolby atmos from 2016 and a DTS.x 2016 also but we need new contents for 2024

For imports, i would assume the Hong Kong film "Shock Wave" is an easy recommendation. Can't say about the 4K disc but the audio is definitely up there. A movie about a police bomb squad with alot of bomb explosions? C'mon! Its a given. I don't have Atmos speakers but even downgraded to DTS, it was giving my Logitech z5500 a good workout.

I don't own the 4k disc and I never really see it anywhere. I wasn't even sure they had made one. Maybe if I find one for cheap down the road I'll look at it.

I still would like to get my hands on a demo disk I don’t understand avr company’s we buy their product they know we have to tweek it why not offer free demo disk ?? It’s crazy

Yeah, you would think they would supply that. Or at a minimum have something you could purchase. I've only seen older discs from the 90's or maybe early 2000'sfor purchase from AVR or speaker manufacturers. These are usually CD based demo discs, not even DVD.

At some point, I'll try Lincoln (I do own and I haven't seen it yet), and I'll pay more attention to the scenes you mentioned in Prometheus when I watch it next time (may not be that soon...), but I really cannot stand Underworld - I found it extremely boring and derevative in the worst possible way...But each to their own! Great topic, thank you for the video.

I understand that everyone has their own preferences, but I do have some nostalgia for Underworld. Despite that, I still think the opening scene is a good video test if nothing else. Prometheus is a good A/V disc all around, and Lincoln is not just a good demo disc, but a really good movie in my opinion.
