Did anyone else really think about this and realize just how scary YBR's findings are? Only a few cars were survivable. To me this is pretty scary because accidents DO happen and for most cars that under-ride bar isn't enough stop the car in the event of a crash. I wish you'd do more stuff in first-person, especially when the cars have really well-made interiors or are at least rather unusual. It also may help you to get a better feel to the vehicle's movement when driving around before you start doing crashes, plus of course it will add more variety to your videos.

All of these crashes were lethal, no hope for anyone to survive, what so ever. If it's a (almost) sudden stop from above 70km/t you are pretty much dead...

What about if you swerve or hit it sideways?

One thing you forgot, because of where the airbag/impact sensors are placed (behind the bumper), the air bags wouldn't have engaged in any of the impacts. either way great vid, I look forward to more.

One thing to remember: in real life glass shatters under sudden, hard impact. Most conventional commercial glass at least.

The under ride guard is extremely important if you want to keep your head. My friend (Occupation: Firefighter) responded to an accident where the truck did not have one and a car wasn't able to stop quick enough, crashed into the back of the truck, and unfortunately decapitating them. So just a little warning, keep your distance if you're behind a truck

WhyBeAre in terms of the air bag. It would have deployed by the time the rear guard would reach the cab, and airbags are made of extremely strong material which overall would improve your odds of surviving. Airbag or not thought, your not walking away from this.

YBR, the UK has sides on the trailer of the truck to stop cars going in and under the truck which would either be crushed by rear wheels or pritty much making the trailer jump up and land most of the wheel area on your roof. there mostly there to deflect cars off

I think the truck being loaded (I think you can load something like 25k lbs in one of those trucks legally) and the parking brake on would result in a slightly more favorable result in terms of cabin intrusion. the truck won't lift up as much on impact, and the bumper should bend rather than slide up the hood.

One thing you should have done was use a car with a rollcage and see what difference it would have made in making the crash survivable.

you also have to take in the g forces. going over 50 mph and doing a complete stop will cause whip lash and possobly snap the spine, resulting in death

Watch in 0.5 speed (assuming you have 60fps and your okay with 30fps slow mo) if you want to hear YBR making a video drunk.

With fast enough reflexes you can actualy survive some of those crashes

This is why if you are undeniably going to hit a high barrier such as one of those crash guards, or a deer, you may be better off braking only until you are somewhat close to the object and then slamming the throttle for the last few moments just so you can get the front end of your car to tilt back up.

a larger vehicle will flip forward, theres such thing as a hard shoulder and hazard lights to help keep people alive and if you dont know what a hard shoulder is look it up, the 2 main reasons why a truck will stop on the motorway/ highway as you call it is air brakes are out of pressure and lock up/ theres traffic

There was an accident in michigan in this past winter where semi's and cars were driving to fast for road conditions. A suv slammed into the back of a semi that had one of those bars, and the couple walked away from the crash. It all depends on the vehicle, depends on how bad it could be. A corvette would be a fatal accident. I owned a corvette and noticed how low it was and decided to sell it for my safety. I'd rather a suv lol

Any of these crashes will definitely result in leg injuries. Only in recent years have automakers been able to strengthen the firewall enough. Also, the situation with the Grand Marshal dipping down is a bit unrealistic. Most cars have active suspension to avoid the front end raising on acceleration and dipping under braking.

140 mph crash with the grand marchel beause when a object is stopped its 2 times for force of impact.

26 mph to 0 mph, with the bar that close to your head, unless your airbag isn't deflated by the underride bar, your head is slamming into that bar. Human skull vs. steel at 26 mph = death.
