Get my 6-Step “Mandarin Pronunciation Roadmap” for free at ritachinese.com/roadmap
Discover what you need for finding your Mandarin voice, and FINALLY hear natives clearly and sound natural in Chinese!
In this video, we’re gonna learn how to understand Chinese people from Beijing and generally northern China when they start speaking fast in real life!
Basically, a LOT of words end up being pronounced pretty differently from how they show up in your Chinese textbooks, so even if you’ve been studying for a long time, it might be hard to understand natives!
If you’ve ever been to Beijing, you’re probably familiar with the “pirate-like” ARRR (also known as 儿化) that’s typical there and throughout most of Northern China, as well as Sichuan and Chongqing.
You might also have heard the classic “Bu’r dao” from a Beijing taxi driver, but the thing is that all of these pronunciation features have rules, and learning them will REALLY help you understand fast Chinese speech better.
PLUS, not only will this help improve your listening skills, it’ll make you sound more authentic (地道 dìdao) when speaking! Who doesn’t want that!
Today we cover:
