A good introduction to the vehicle. If I leave the car for airport parking, I always leave the laminated one page guide on the passenger seat - not all drivers understand the vehicle. A minor note: the wheel behind the steering wheel and on the left alters the headlamp height angle; panel brightness is controlled by pressing they button just below the central display.

I just bought a gen 2 prius a few weeks ago. 2009 with 44k miles. How are you liking yours? please share any experiences you have with your car. So far I did a oil/filter change immediately, I changed my engine filter and cabin filter, upgraded interior lights to LED, installed window rain guards, replaced the antenna (made huge difference in radio experience!), both my keys were torn up or taped up so I ordered new fob shells off amazon and watched a video and replaced both mine with brand new outside covers... so easy!, ordered convex larger rear view mirror as my model does not have back up camera :(, installed convex blind spot mirrors, ordered hybrid battery filter ( not installed yet..), replaced my combo meter at dealership ($$ costly 1100 repair), looking to get transmission fluid changed in the next week to be safe. I love my car!!! so fun to drive))) I drove 180 miles to buy mine. I searched and searched for low miles... I bought a habitent for mine so I can camp in it whenever I want.($99 incredible purchase highly recommend.

Hello Flower , the prius V it's defnitly a great car what i do recomend it's before buy have some one inspect it to make sure that one it's in a good condition . having a Prius the main thing is make sure to check oil level between oil changes all Toyota 4 cilinder have a high oil consumption and there is nothing to do to fix it . just add oil as it need and make sure never let below the minimun level . Another thing the prius V have a battery air vent located under the back seet make sure not put anything blocking this vent and to clean the battery every year to extend the life o your battery. also at 80k miles it's recomend to replace the water pump . good luck on you new car and trip. And If you are by orange county California stop by to our shop to say hi thank you Renato

Great info…I’m new to Prius world; lot to learn. Nite in checking oil: I saw on CCnut that oil level should show a little below fuel if checking a cold engine- the oil will explains when it is heated up from driving; so, you don’t want to overfill it when engine is cold.

I'm a big guy but I've learned to get in and out while wearing cold weather gear. Mine needs struts and maybe the batteries are getting weak. On the plus side, The body and interior of this one is really good for a 14 year old. I really like carrying the little fob and having the car obey my commands instantly. It is maybe a half mile each way to work, another mile or two to the hardware store. Driving the Prius seems cost-free compared to the big old Tundra for hauling, towing and snow. I like it well enough to put a set of Firestones on it and give it a 4 wheel alignment. This Prius is like adopting a new dog and finding he's a good one.@@TheSafetysheep

@@TheSafetysheep I do like it a lot. No one has ever ridden in the back seat since I bought it. I bought it from the original owner, a professor at CSU who had lived in the deep south for most of the car's life and was able to keep it garaged much of the time. The struts still need replaced and around town it tends to bottom out on deep dips. Still, I get in the high 40s around town and the high 30s on trips down the interstate. I seldom drive it more than 250 miles a day because it is tiring. It really needs struts. Major maintenance includes an annual oil change with full synthetic and high quality filter plus wiper blades every other year.

I have read that Toyota undersized the holes in the pistons that force out the oil rings. I have seen suggestion to put brake clean followed by marvel mystery oil in the cylinders overnight before an oil change to unplug those holes. Do you have any suggestion. will f 1. Inverter coolant pump failure ($50 eBay Toyota pump, easy to replace). 2. Dash speedo failure ($65 on eBay, you send, they rebuild). 3. Front wheel bearings can fail. Case by case. They are typically noisy and sometimes loose. $124 Toyota OEM on amazon. DO NOT USE aftermarket parts! 4. 12volt starting battery. When they get low they cause all kinds of erratic issues 5. HV battery pack. 28 modules. Often one fails bringing the red triangle of death and a specific code relating to hybrid battery failure. This is like wheel bearings, happens at random mileage. Some cars go 300k miles, while others only 100k before failure. newpriusbatteries.com can get you all fixed up with NEW batteries. Proven and inexpensive approach. Owner is a very knowledgeable and friendly guy. 6. Serpentine belt after 100k. People forget this drives the ICE(internal combustion engine). 7. ICE water pump we discussed above. This is hit and miss and a cheap fix if diy There are a few other things but they mostly affect older cars. All in all the 2nd gen Prius is one of the most reliable cars you can own. They are bulletproof in many cases and only require minimum maintenance.

Ade Some of them consume oil, and some of them don’t; it depends on what mileage the vehicle has, and what type of oil you’re using and crucially what climate you’re operating in. I had my Prius serviced just before Xmas. I’ve done approximately 5,000 miles (UK) since then, and haven’t needed to add oil yet. When I do, it will probably be only 1/5th down from the top dot on the dipstick. It’s not an oil guzzler, but after 100,000 it might drink that bit more - it depends from Prius to Prius. Light oils burn off quicker. I use 5W-30 in my Prius - I don’t even use half a litre of oil between 12 month services yet. YMMV.
