Eczema, allergic asthma, and allergic rhinitis are three hyper-allergic conditions-often called the atopic triad-that tend to affect certain people, including kids.
The link between these conditions is complicated, even for doctors and scientists. But having one may increase the chances of your child having another hyper-allergic condition.
How can you tell if your child’s rash might clear up on its own or is indicative of an allergy? Hosts Alok Patel and Bethany Van Delft are here with suggestions on who to talk to when your little one is dealing with one or more of the “triad” conditions.

“We don’t completely understand why some people have really bad allergies versus others,” Alok says. Doctors do know that having eczema as a baby is a risk factor for allergies later in life. And though allergies can be inherited, just because a parent suffers from an atopic condition does not mean a child will, too.
Asthma is a little different. Coughing, wheezing, and chest tightness-its symptoms-can be brought on by an allergic reaction. But asthma can also be triggered by respiratory colds, cigarette smoke, and other external factors.
“There is even exercise-induced asthma,” Alok explains. Pediatricians and primary care providers do their best to keep a history of the patient’s symptoms that sound like asthma-and parents should, too.
“Remember: Use your instinct,” Alok says. If your child has a skin condition that you are worried might turn into anaphylaxis, a severe reaction, or hives, you can call your doctor just to check what’s happening. “It could be wheezing that you think is asthma. But it could be an inhaled Lego.”
“When in doubt, go to an allergist,” Bethany says. After all, knowing that nothing is wrong is better than being left wondering.

Hey! I’m dealing with the same condition. If you have the ££ I’d recommend seeing a naturopath - someone specialised in skin conditions. The reason I suggest this for you is because Eczema is a gut related problem, whenever your gut is damaged it will show on the outside.. hence a rash. For me it’s been nearly 2 weeks now since using hydrocortisone cream / prednisone. I’ve fixed my diet by eliminating all forms of sugar, chocolate etc and greatly lowered my carb intake. I highly advise you to get a comprehensive stool test from a naturopath or nutritionist.. they must be private - outside of free medicine / NHS as they will just tell you your issue is an auto immune condition and you can do nothing about it. I highly highly highly ! Advise you to get in contact with them immediately but for any reason what’s so ever you can’t do this, look into the term “leaky gut” and or “candida” and piece the puzzles together.. I recommend avoiding salicylates also as they are eczema trigger foods - doctors and you-tubers to look out for on your search - Dr. Berg & Dr Eric Bakker. I hope you see this message and start to feel better soon - I am on the road of recovery and only hope you find healing. All the best G

I'm adult had Asthma & heat spots as a child but now as an adult I'm getting the Asthma & Eczema and the allergic rhinitis. The last two come & go but are driving me mad with the cracked & itchy skin and blocked ears so everything sounds like I'm underwater. I've also developed reactions to lots of foods especially fruit but other cooked foods make me bloat up. Just fed up with it all.

Question. Can you get asthma when you get bronchitis twice? First time I had it, it only affected my breathing to cold air. If I inhaled a lot I would be gasping for air. After a week or two I felt better and never needed an inhaler again until 3 or so years later when I got it again. Second time it was worse. I couldn't take the smell of smoke perfume cleaning stuff etc. Though this time I can breathe in cold her. it's like a breath of fresh air. lol
