Hi Spyros I take action photos of 3 day equestrian with cross country , dressage and show jumping. I use center weighting with a 70-200mm f2.8. Now I have different areas to choose from in that mode . I was using F4 and center weighted 15 , the results were pretty good.

I would love to see a video on how different metering modes effect and are effected by different focussing modes. Enjoyed your presentation.

another fantastic video........I've been picking different functions of the camera and practicing with each function until I'm familiar.......done iso.....done shutter.......done f numbers......just gotta do metering and then onto white balance. ........so far I'm shooting manual as I'm fast learning that no matter how advanced your clever camera is....it cannot be trusted to make all the decisions. ........working harder and happier with results........trying to get as much done in the camera as possible so I don't have to spend time fixing my mistakes on the photo apps........getting more confident with sharing photos on live media........getting great comments and feeling like it's very much worth every second of thinking about best options before shooting.......beginning to feel like things are becoming second nature........always grateful for any lessons ......tuition or ideas........despite choosing to explore every possible choice of settings I am still amazed how quick you can make a decision after a bit of time practicing and playing with the camera......its like going from auto gearbox to manual......after a while you instinctively know when to change gear

Holy Crap! I hit the jackpot. I had no idea about this and I did some test shots tonight with the spot metering mode and then the average metering mode (which I have been using forever) and boy...what a difference. Thank you a million times over.

Great video and one I have recommended to many new photographers. I do a lot of low light fast action and concert event photography so I rely on the spot metering mode exclusively. When I want to put focus on a particular band member I change the focus point, but still keep the spot metering.

Thank you for the specific explanation, I just started talking pictures as a hobby about a year ago, metering was the camera setting that quite didn't understand very well I have been shooting in matrix all this time because I thought it was the best setting overall. I guess I was wrong, now I'm going to go out and take some pictures with this new understanding of metering.

Thanks for this - you've given me a greater understanding of how metering modes work. I always shoot in centre weighted average because it was recommended to me... but know I know WHY it's a good mode.

Yes mate I have to agree with Tom Carney. Short sweet and straight to the point. Something simple explained in exact and simple terms. Your pace is fast but that is Ok because all info was there and we can always rewind and go back. I've been shooting with the spot metering mode for quite sometime. I have never had any idea how those other modes would influence my shots, but something always made me feel satisfied about much of my pictures. Thank you once more.

One addition to spot metering used scenario is partially highlighted subjects like concerts, low light acts etc...Use spot metering on subject lit well and forget about high iso and noise problems. Great video and explanation deserved to be liked and subscribed.

Just bought a Canon T6 (spring 2020) and it came with 3 modes... evaluative, partial and center weighted. I'm sticking with the first one for now but will goof around and see what the others may do for me. Thank you. I had no idea what the metering thing even meant.

I started photography because of landscapes and I use Matrix Metering on my Nikon when shooting landscapes to balance the light in the whole scene. As oppose to spot or center weight metering when shooting wild life like flying birds...

This was like a bright light from heaven doors of perception... Digital cameras have so many definitions that you must combine in so many sets using : aperture, shutter speed, ISO and now meetering zon. Skills we get with time and patience

This is awesome tutorial thank you.I use spot metering for portraits too and matrix for landscapes and general use at the street. I want if you can to elaborate more on the connection between the metering modes and the focus points. for instance my nikon has single-point,auto-area ,dynamic- area and 3D -tracking with11 points. I don't quite understand the 3D-tracking and the dynamic-area when to use and what's the difference in those two and which metering mode is the ideal for each one. I recently bouhgt an 50mm 1,8G lences and I think it is pretty important the metering mode and the focus point to work together.thank you!

Great delivery and form...I GOT IT! Woo Hoo! Just learned tonight about the metering will head out tomorrow and put it to use! Shooting indoors a bright shiny yellow tractor in artificial lighting...and have failed miserably. Hoping this lesson learned will produce a truer yellow color to represent the subject. Lemon is not what I am after, a warmer golden (CAT) yellow is. METER THIS! : )
