I feel beyond lucky to have been given the opportunity to Interview Ian. I am so appreciative of how open, honest, vulnerable and gracious he is with sharing his life with us... The least we can do in return is to try our best to understand him and his world while giving him our support.
I truly hope you enjoy watching this interview and I hope I made all the Dreamers out there proud!🖤

This is amazing! It's so refreshing to see an actual fan be able to interview the artist and have a genuine conversation about the art/music. I can tell he appreciated talking to someone who actually got it! Really cool conversations! ❤

I know I’m a little late to this video but as someone with DID I can’t tell you how much it means to us that you’re talking openly about this 🥹 not a lot of people talk about this and we feel so seen and understood in watching your music videos and listening to your music! It was an incredible interview, you did amazing, thank you so much 🖤🖤🖤

As a system, dealing with DID. You have no idea how much it means to have someone like us that is so successful and so open about this trauma condition. It makes me so happy and so proud of him for letting us into this world of his. I've been diagnosed for 5 years and he is right on the dot about feeling like it isnt real. The Imposter syndrome never really goes away, but shutting out your alters makes it so much worse. It is so hard to describe how it is to be a system and how disconnected you are from your body, but I am amazed of how our brains are able to cope with life like this. So thank you Christian and his system.

Oh hey! I was also diagnosed with BP in 2020 after living half a lifetime knowing someone wasn’t right, not just anxiety and depression. (I’m 37 now.) I immediately identified with Christian’s work and felt “seen.” I appreciate that he stares down the dark side of things and shows them for what they are. In a way that I’ve never seen before. I also definitely get where you’re coming from with the strong reactions. I actually haven’t been able to finish this interview or some of his livestreams yet because it’s a bit triggering. It’s really nice to see someone else with bipolar speaking about their experiences in one of these reaction videos. I’m normally the only one going “hey, person with bipolar disorder here…” Thank you so much for sharing your story, and I hope you’re doing well!

I'm curious about something. If I may ask how do you get an official diagnosis for it? Like what tests did they do for you? Not that I think I have this condition specifically but just a genuine question out of my interest. Oh and you're 27, the person in the replies is 37. I guess I'm here to fill in the number 17 lol. Anyway thanks for sharing this and hope you're doing good.

@@unravel9716 with me, I had a very strong suspicion for a long time. I did a lot of research and picked out all of the things that I identified with. I also have ADHD and Anxiety as well as major depressive disorder, so it was tricky for me to see what was what and which things couldn’t be explained. Learning the term “hypomania” (a lower level of mania which can also surface as things like extreme irritability and inner restlessness) was what made me decided I needed to see a psych. I had wondered for SO LONG if I was bipolar but I had never had a manic episode so I decided I must not be, in spite of everything else seeming accurate. I brought that list with me to a psychiatrist and talked with her about everything, my mental health history, family history, etc. Because my hypomanic symptoms are atypical, she wasn’t completely convinced. However, the standard medications that help bipolar helped me. I think she wondered if I might have Borderline Personalty Disorder for a while due to my mood swings but I and my therapist knew it was really not the case. Psychs are hesitant to give out the diagnosis sometimes, especially since it can mirror a lot of other things, including ADHD. There’s a lot of “comorbidities” meaning there’s a lot of the same symptoms with both. About 20% of Bipolar people are also ADHD. So basically…diagnosis is tricky. And it’s a process. Only with therapy and medication can you figure out what works.

@@thespianoge I got it thank you so much. That does like a complicated process but yeah I understand it's reasonable too. Honestly I think I'm finally at a point where I should seek help. I've mainly been struggling with this condition called Misophonia. I just hate some sounds it's fucking unbearable. First started when I was 7 when I had no clue what it was and then since around 12 it's only been getting worse. At some point especially during the covid pandemic (my dad was at home = more trigger sounds) it just drove me crazy. I was always straight up angry trying to hold it all in. Everyday was like that. Constantly crying with frustration and anger. After it all I thought I got somewhat better. Drowned myself with music as a coping mechanism but really it all just comes back after a short while. I'll be normal but then the next minute when I'm faced with an awful trigger I'll have this strong urge to hit my head on wall or get the prolonged type of cry. My parents are from the group of people that will do anything not to acknowledge mental health. It hurts that I can't do anything about it even now. Maybe if I can keep going till when I might be leaving to study abroad within the next 2 years or so I'll have a chance to see a psych. Anyway, I'm really sorry for the random rant. It's just that I got back from breaking down yet again I was feeling all emotional right now. I don't know if this could anyhow relate to borderline personality disorder but yeah I do feel Ian's songs a lot. It was helpful to know you could be bipolar without having experienced a manic episode. Again I really appreciate it, thank you.

@@unravel9716 that’s difficult that you don’t feel like you have a support system to get the help you need. Do you have a school counselor or someone like that you can talk to? It sounds like you could really benefit from talking to a professional about what you’re experiencing. I don’t have personal experience with misophonia but I’m aware of it and it sounds horrible. I’m so sorry you have to deal with that, especially because it’s something so unavoidable. I would really encourage you to seek whatever help is available to you. I don’t know what resources there are for you, but I bet there’s something. Good luck, and I’m rooting for you!

I was diagnosed with both DID and type two bipolar. My therapist explained it as my genetics making me predisposed to DID. I would have the swings anyway, but it’s the trauma that causes the dissociations. Carli is usually fronting. She’s my low. Though thats my legal name, she is my public switch. The one who toes the family line. Theo is my true self. Who I am when I’m content. When I feel real. Anna is… complicated. She holds the emotions and creativity. And energy. She is my highs.

So, let me preface by saying this, I always heard of DPR Ian throughout the years, but never took the time to dive in... UNTIL NOW! I watched this video in its entirety the evening you posted it; however, since I was immediately drawn to Christian (DPR IAN), I wanted to take a deep dive myself into his music/art/concept etc. before I made a comment here. GIRL, first... congratulations to you for being given this amazing opportunity to have a conversation with an artist you love & admire so much. It's not often we see our favorite artists have genuine conversations with fans who are well-versed with their music/content/concepts. This interview/conversation was an absolute treat to watch especially because of that. It was so clear how comfortable he was, how appreciative he was and low-key maybe fanboying a little over you lol. So, after my first watch, yes first, because I have now watched it three times, haha... I started with watching his music videos in chronological order, listened to his albums and saw some other interviews and clips on KZfaq... then proceeded to watch all of your reactions on your playlist as well. Here I am 7 days later... a full on DREAMER for life, in a rabbit hole and irrevocably in love with this man and all he has to offer as a true artist unlike anything I've ever experienced. I mean gurl, I'm watching archived IG lives, TikTok lives, live stages, fan cams... pretty much an obsessive DPR Ian content consumer these days... even forced my best friend to listen to him and she fell in love with Welcome to the Show and even added him to her playlist. I agree with what you say about him and echo the appreciation of his bravery. I just wanted to say thank you for introducing me to him, thank you for creating such a lovely atmosphere for this interview, thank you for the best DPR Ian reactions on KZfaq... I'm clapping my hands between those words! Thank you for the edits... they were perfectly placed with such great visual references. THANK YOU IAN for the artist YOU ARE! For multiple reasons, finding him was life changing. Well done Anitra :)

This might be the best interview of DPR IAN that i've watched!! As he said it felt like a chat between friends, it was so nice i felt i was there too! weird! I hadso many thoughts but now i forgot, but i relate to many things he said about his experiences! I agree on both of your mutual praises! you really are great perceiving and that comes from listening, from caring and paying attention to others, but also you have a will to understand and find common grounds, you are a ver6 bright human being! i think he felt that and was eager to have this interview/chat with you! I think he was happy during it and i'm sure after he hung up the video-call he was also feeling very satisfied and warm and motivated! So yeah, thank you for this! I can't wait for all what's to come and the Mito Movie 2! everything! so exciting! I just would like to say to him (if he ever reads this) that he is an artist, not as in oh music is a form of art therefore he is an artist... No, an artist as in the deepest meaning of it, he really embodies what a true artist is, he is fully in it, it's not even a job, art = DPR IAN = art! He doesn't compromise to just sing, just film, just compose... He has that spiritual.and visceral too need to express himself, he has created his tools and his visual and audio forms, that are HIS, he has devlevoped his own style and that is not easy, that is not anyone can do... I have painted, and i know about the fears of a white paper and a white canvas, the amount of second-guessing oneself and bashing oneself... I'm not an artist because i don't think i have much to express, and the days that i would think i do i don't know how to be myself, what exactly is being myself and what form should all that take... In the end i give up. But he IS an artist and he needs to do it just as he needs the blood pumping and flowing to live! He even reminds me of the Renaissance artists, for example, that popular figure of the multitalented artists whose life is all about art. A Michelangelo Buonarrotti! Ahhhh... i would love to say many things but i forgot most of my thoughts.. By the way, i'm your pal i guess: a 44 years old girl haha😊 I remember for MIITO he was curious about what were fan's favourites songs off the album, and i did leave a comment with my fav songs. Now that i heard him say how he second guessed himself about his music, and wondered about Mito's creations... o thought maybe my fav songs were his or maybe not? i felt like i would hurt him😢 But then he also said he embraces himself, and he is himself anyway, in the end all of them are his creations, his sweat, his tears, his sleepless nights are all his!.. I just want him to keep going, i'm very happy to hear him say he is learning on the go, that's how it should be! and i feel happy that he has people that he can talk freely to, even if it is just one or two that really is havibg a treasure, the most precious one you can have in a lifetime! 😊🌹

this boy has a beautiful spirit All this really hit hard for me. Since a child my closest family have basically put me in a box. When I showed my true self and feelings I recieved hate from everyone and thought that it was normal and that I was the anomaly. That what i felt and thought was wrong. In that time i lived very far away from my natal country. So in order to survive cause I had no other family to rely on I repressed that part of me and slowly created a fake-self. Which indeed made my parents happy, but that destroyed me. Eventually i flipped completely on my parents. They freaked out, almost kicked me out. I loved reading and listening music a lot during that time, because it was a way to escape my home and my reality. I felt alone, because i felt no one understood me. Through the search of wanting to be understood i began to research more on my problems, through music and literature. And through both these and thanks to wonderful people who I later met I learnt that it was ok. It was ok to feel whatever i was feeling. Repressing was not solving anything. Being vunerable and accepting that I was not perfect was fine, that there was no such thing as perfect. It was ok to not feel ok all the time, to not be happy or talkative all the time, or to be in the other parties good side, and that was what made me human, not a zombie. There was only self. Good and bad parts of me were both expressions of my self. A natural balance that made me human. I stopped fearing. Sometimes what one needs is just someone to accept them, just as they are, with no conditions attached, to tell them that all is ok. That moment of comfort is priceless. When you think you are walking alone in the dark and suddenly you see another person next to you holding a candlelight. His music is like one of those candlelights for me.

I just finished and i feel overwhemed with things i want to say cause he said so many beautiful things. When he said "theres a lot power in just having people understand you" i actually got teary eyed because i cant even imagine how hard his journey must have been and probabaly still is to try and get people around him to understsnd what ge goes thru. I think this is the most open he has ever been about his DID and i think its a testement to how comfortable he felt around u to be vunerable. While he shouldnt be, I do understand why he says he is embarressed to talk about his DID and possibly bipolar due to socities stigma or just lack of representation of it so i 100% think he is giving a very postive voice to people who have these disorders and im so proud of him. Another beautiful moment was him talking about being unapologetically himself and trying to see his disorders as a blessing in disguise. I think its such a wise thing to say. his outlook on perfection and being yourself just aligns with my beliefs so much. Last major stand out was him talking about the mirror and his struggle to look at himself. This did break my heart a little i wont lie but i did find it very insightful in terms of the mito eye and such. Lastly, no suprise but he is just such a sweet caring person. Always telling you how grateful he is and just being wonderful i coud listen to ur discussion him forever. I sometimes dont think we we deserve him, he just is someone i can genuinely say is an inspiration❤❤

Thanks to you and to him for this incredible interview. I love both of you. ❤

Wow. I just really appreciate how honest and raw and genuine he is. I wish I could sit down with him for tea and just talk. I started manifesting BP symptoms when I was 5 years old and was officially diagnosed at 12. I'm glad for it now, because it made me into who I am today and I'm very stable on the meds and have a great family. But it was hard for a while, and I had to repair my relationships with my siblings for years. I would just snap at the slightest thing...literally see red. Head buzzing and couldn't think, just pure rage and dissociation. I expressed myself through art a lot during this time (painting, drawing), and I absolutely love what Christian is doing. Christian, if you ever read this, THANK YOU for sharing your story and your trials, they aren't something to be embarrassed about at all. I don't really have the right to say this, but I'm so proud of you. I hope that the more you express yourself like you're doing, the more you can come to love yourself. (Also, I love how your goal is not to glamorize DID, but to share your experience and positively impact others with mental illnesses). Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful life. Take care of yourself, because you deserve it. Edit: I don't have DID, so I hope this doesn't come across as too assuming! I'm sure DID makes the episodes so much scarier and intense. I am in no way trying to be like "omg, I know EXACTLY how you feel" when it's not the same. Thank you so much again for sharing your story.

Thank you so much for this interview ❤❤ this is the type of in depth interview ive wanted from him where the interviewer can actually ask deep question about him and his storyline. Im serious when i say he is like the most interesting person ive ever listened to. I cant really verbalize it, but the way he is able to translate his experiences into something so uniquely him. Theres really no one like him and can we talk about how he literally does it all. I know people mention it but really, he does just about everything and he deserves some serious praise and frankly more recognition for just the amount of work he puts into his artistry from writing, directing, editing. AND executes incredibly. Anyway enough rambling, thank you again :)

I have DID and I'm a huge fan of DPR IAN. I just discovered him like three months ago so I'm late on this whole thing and then saw this interview, btw, I subscribed here too. I love these videos and all the pauses! I pause a lot when I watch these videos as well. There is always a lot in them. The first time I watched DPR IAN's video, Don't go Insane, I thought, this seems so DID! I loved it and I was hooked! I have three other alter that also watch! Thanks for this video! I can't stop watching it!

ANITRAAA I'M SO PROUD OF YOU!!!! I've been watching you for years, since way back during your "EXO-L reacts" days, and I've always loved how you care about all of the details! I remember that moment hearing you say that you would love to interview Ian one day and I remember thinking that would be perfect! I knew you'd really ask intricate questions from the perspective of someone who knows the music and the storyline and who truly cares for it all--so when I saw this video posted my jaw dropped and I even teared up a bit!!! You SO deserve this recognition and I couldn't have wanted it in a better way than this! This was an amazing interview that I felt was so comfortable and meaningful. Ian is one of my very top solo artists and I feel like I really learned a lot more about him as a person and gained a new appreciation for him and his artistry as well. I'm so incredibly proud of you!!!

Anitra! This was so lovely! I loved your in depth questions, and also how you gave Christian room to follow his thoughts. It really felt like I was sitting in a room listening to friends chat. Christian is right about your giving and understanding nature and I completely understand why he would reach out for an interview, even if I didn't believe it either the first time he commented in that livestream during radio time. I'm so looking forward to seeing all the spoilers you had to cut out lol - Christian is amazing in his openness and ability to communicate his story through music and visuals, and it was absolutely lovely to hear him talk about his process of what is essentially understanding himself through art. Thank you to you both for doing this chat and letting us all listen in.

I'm already aware how much of a thinker you are but when you add someone as equally intelligent like Christian magic literally happens! That's the only way i can explain this properly. Like the level of comfortability, open communication and S P O I L E R S gurllllllll.... This is so INCREDIBLE! 😭😭❤❤ what a special interaction Okay, 40 minutes in and I had no idea he had DID, but I have a fascination with the studies and intricacies of DID and I love learning about different systems (I don't know if he'd refer to himself as a system or not, I know a lot of people with DID do), and it gives me SUCH a new appreciation and understanding for his music. Like you, I thought there may be something behind the artistry and alter egos, and I'm so glad that's now more understanding and working with it in a way that is probably so scary, but so rewarding. Half an hour left but I'm going to have to come back to it! This is so amazing!!!

You have such a beautiful heart and I’m so happy you got to do this Anitra 😭 I can’t imagine what it’s like to have DID, but from an outsiders perspective, I don’t view someone with DID as incomplete or broken. Whether or not they’re feeling that way about themselves, they’re complete, alters and all. And each alter (and the host) doesn’t look incomplete or insufficient. Host and alters and all are invited to the party and whoever’s fronting doesn’t change the fact that you should be treated with respect, without stigma or bias. We take you as you wish to come, we take what you wish to give, and we aren’t entitled to anything you don’t want to give. And with switching who’s fronting, the more the merrier.

I'm pretty late to this vid, but Anitra I honestly can't thank you enough for this interview. I came across IAN's music during an extremely confusing and stressful period in my life, and it's not an exaggeration to say that his work and perspectives have seriously changed the way that I see myself and the world for the better. He so deserves to know that his art, and his openness in being himself, seriously has a positive impact on people. The next time I'm struggling, I'm going to think about and Christian's bravery in expressing himself, and mama Yu's reminder to be yourself unapologetically, LOL. Thank you endlessly Anitra for being such a thoughtful and sincere interviewer, and for sharing your insights about how much he means to people
