I love the way my '84 Crossfire runs. I find it easy to work on; all you have to do is change out some old parts to breathe new life into them. You're right about the vacuum; I changed all my vacuum hoses, which made a huge difference. I then swapped out the fuel pump to one from an '85 to get more pressure. I got an MSD HE ignition system, which made it come to life. I keep it tuned, and it runs well. I don't need the '84 to have loads of HPs; I just need it to run nice and crisp, which it does.

Just bought an 84 with the factory crossfire still on it. The car has managed to not only go 218k miles with it, but it also got me from Baltimore, MD all the way back home on the Western side of West Virginia. A 6 hour trip one way! It did spit and sputter, but with some crossfire adjustments and a tune up, I'm sure it'll be back to business as usual!

The only thing wrong with the crossfire was people that never owned one talking bad about them. And don't forget the coolant temp sensor on the front of the intake was one of the biggest problems

C3 Covette is the coolest looking Vette of all, and since they were caught in the low performance era they are relatively inexpensive. I am no mechanic, So I'm going to find a mechanic to help me track down a cream puff that I could bring to car shows and take out on weekends.

Hello Anthony! Love my 84 corvette and everything you said is very true about the crossfire engine in the 84. I have one myself. I had some wiring replaced because of age. Have you ever had an issue we’re your digital dash and your headlights when on do a very small flicking at the same time? Not sure if it’s a wiring issue or maybe it’s time to check out the alternator.
@noahsalmons22 Жыл бұрын
Check the throttle position sensor it should read voltage of .525 to idle properly.
@anthony84vette Жыл бұрын
I had the same issue with mine and what I did was I took the instrument panel apart it's kind of like a laptop and it's in two sections where it connect's there's a few pins clean the pins and put it back together,that's the most common issue,but again it could be the circuit board .....a lot of variables but flickering usually is those pins getting slightly corroded......
@juanb.57894 жыл бұрын
What kind of vacuum pump do you use? If there is a leak in the vacuum lines that control the lights could that cause problems? My 1982 stalls out when I come to complete full stops I was told it might be my timing chain what do you think? Thanks for your video
@anthony84vette4 жыл бұрын
84 was a whole different animal there is no vacuum that controls the headlights,as far as you're stalling it could be a lot of things EGR valve, timing and maybe a vacuum leak,I would definitely check the vacuum and the timing..

Headlights have Motors doesn't rely on vacuum on the C4 Corvettes,doesn't sound like a timing chain to me it sounds like a vacuum leak you have somewhere,is it possible somebody put a cam in that car and it's Robin your vacuum that's a possibility also..or it may just need a very good tune-up ignition wires so on and so on,if that all is good the first thing I would check is the EGR valve that's a strong possibility.........
@MrKlgrayson4 жыл бұрын
Anthony I noticed in the video that above your Fan that you have a hole in the shroud did you cut that hole yourself and if so is it helping the car to get more cooler air circulating
@Revvedupmontana4 жыл бұрын
i cut a hole in mine also. the 84 vette has a functioning cowl type hood. the hood has a hole in it also and the "bumps" in the hood are air ducts that go into the 2 holes on the air cleaner
@anthony84vette4 жыл бұрын
yes I cut that out and it made a tremendous difference in the performance in the car,instead of sucking in hot air from the engine compartment it's breathing in nice fresh air from the front underneath,and I must say you are very observant......I don't think General Motors wanted to take a chance and doing that and taking a chance and clogging up the the ductwork that goes through the hood,you can't see it but on the hood I have a screen so nothing can fly in........if you look at 85 and up the tuned port engines they all bring in fresh air from the front.......
@Revvedupmontana4 жыл бұрын
@@anthony84vette nice call on the screen idea might have to use that
@davidsafely7322 жыл бұрын
@@anthony84vette My thinking is they didn't want a problem with the EPA, which was a very anal retentive institution back during that time frame. It's easy to prevent clogging by putting in a screen between the radiator air box and the intake of the hood. Best to install on the bottom of the hood inlet.

GM for what ever reason thought it was a good idea to have the fans come on around 235 to 240 degrees. I changed the t.stat and replaced the fan temp sensor in the passenger side head so the fan came on at 195 degrees. The big reason was because of the 624 heads they used were the lite casting and would crack if over heated.

Most problem with the cross fire engine is balance the carbs with a manometer the two carb must be balance to run right and the throttle senor must be at reading at .035 volts every that it.

Hey Anthony i got my 84 for a year now and it was running fine until recently when i changed the idle air control valves and the idle went too high (1500-1700) i tried to adjust by driving (believing ecm will auto adjust but no luck) i then put the old iac valves back in ( which are a bit longer than new ones) and the idle went down a bit but still running high at 1200 especially after engine warmed up. I thought the coolant temp sensor was the problem and i changed it but still idle goes high when engine warmed up and now throws code 14 and 15. The wiring at the cts seemed a bit messed up so maybe that’s why the codes..? I also don’t have o2 sensor and no cats (in dubai i registered it as classic car) and my fuel economy is terrible. Although it’s a crossfire engine My set up is a bit different as there is no air box, but each tbi has its own air filter. (You can have a look on my channel) I think most vacuum lines are sorted or capped off so don’t think the vacuum is a problem. I rebuilt both TBIs, new fuel pump new fuel filter and new coolant temp sensor. What do you think the high idle is caused by? any suggestions?
@georgehill992 жыл бұрын
Did you figure it out?
@bojankalodjera17572 жыл бұрын
@@georgehill99 well kinda, the car idles alright at the beginning starts at 1200 the drops to about 800, but then after some driving it goes back to 1200. I cleaned the idle control valves and tried adjusting throttle positioning sensor and it is still the same. I almost got used to it by now and almost forgot about it tbh. I do have a new throttle positioning sensor and maybe i should replace the old one, although i am thinking if my existing throttle positioning sensor is toast it would have even worse idle.? Anyway i might change it and see what happens..it’s weird that it really runs great for the first 10min then the idle goes up, but then again goes down after say 20min of driving..so some traffic stops i would have it at 1200 and some at 800. I tried playing with the throttle lever and when i push it down it does reduce the idle so almost as if it’s sticking somewhere. I also put a lot of lubricant in most throttle moving parts, but still the same.. go figure..

Imo the best thing you can do with a crossfire injection system is remove and swap it for a truck tbi system. All the wiring and connectors are the same. You just don't use one of the idle air controllers. The original system was a cobbled together mess.
@intermissionbuffalo7 ай бұрын
I run a modded TBI on my 350 Monte Carlo and it does pretty well. I heard with the original design of the Crossfire it was too tall to fit under the Corvette hood, so they chopped in the intake manifold down. That probably went against every design and engineering concept and crippled it's potential.
@mcqueenfanman7 ай бұрын
@@intermissionbuffalo All I can say is every other successful tbi system has small plenums and short runners. In the case of GMs and some Fords they added swirl ports at the intake valve ports. Crossfire has none of that.

I would say 95% change the idle control valve on each throttle body to start..especially if it settles down after a while I would say 99% is the idle control valve...f you don't want to spend a lot of money you can go on eBay and get the cheap ones for $10 each and if it works out later you can buy the better ones..Good luck....by the way on these Crossfire injections you cannot adjust the idle,if something is slightly out the ECM will try to correct it with the fuel management and try to get the idol correctly 6 to 800 RPM
