IoT is more than just the "things" we are so used to seeing. Behind all those devices that form smarthomes, factories, electrical grids, buildings, security systems, and other setups is the cloud processing all the data coming from those devices. In truth, there's probably more "Internet" in IoT than "Things". In this video, we'll look at a high-level architecture of an IoT deployment and discuss the Azure resources that make it all happen.

I think Azure Functions are fairly fundamental to IoT for ETL and payload enrichment, no other Azure services can do that and remit the event to other services. The the thing to remember on larger IoT ingestion patterns is that you will need to create a que for incoming events as well as take cold starts into account.

Stream Analytics or Data Factory would be pretty close. Both are pretty powerful.

One thing is for sure, Architects needs to be excellent communicator whether they actually know anything or not. But they should be aware of how to sell products nowdays
