Many pathogens, especially viral pathogens, can trigger post-acute infectious syndrome like Long COVID. Often it's very difficult to know the causative agent of a post-acute infection syndrome. Long COVID has changed that equation altogether but we still don't know how to treat and better diagnose these types of diseases and prevent them. The patients who have these various post-acute infection syndromes, have a debilitating condition that prevents them from functioning in society in some instances. We are considering several hypotheses right now for mechanisms that trigger post-acute infection syndromes. The first hypothesis is persistent virus infection. Even if you clear the virus from your nose and your throat. There may be a reservoir of virus somewhere in the body that is continuing to replicate and transmit infection. The second hypothesis is autoimmunity. There may be some link between autoimmunity that's triggered by a viral infection and long COVID. The third hypothesis is reactivation of latent viruses. We all carry many viruses, but they are latent. But sometimes these viruses wake up from latency and trigger infection, and the final hypothesis is sort of inflammation that triggers chronic changes in the tissue and damages them. The Center for Infection and Immunity will focus on understanding the pathobiology of long COVID with the hopes of also understanding other post-acute infection syndromes such as myalgic encephalomyelitis chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS). Research over the past decades has revealed a link between infection and autoimmunity, cancer, neurodegenerative diseases and age-related diseases. Our Center will strive to define potential links between infection and these other chronic diseases with the goal of developing targeted and effective therapies.

Betaine TMG might help. I had severe acid reflux, intestinal pain, stiffness of the neck, headaches, numbness of the face & a heat sensation in my left knee and heat and pain sensation in my right kidney. All tests came back normal, painkillers only made it worse, medication to numb the nerve endings in my bowel did nothing either. Since taking Betaine TMG my symptoms have improved by about 80%. Here’s why I believe it may be helpful. 1. A study looking at the spike protein of the virus found that it is triggering a hyper inflammatory T Cell immune response via TLR4 proteins. The study found that this occurs irrespective of previous infection which leads me to believe that this maybe part of the viruses mechanism of disease as it maybe be shedding the spike protein as a diversionary tactic. The T Cell inflammation could be triggering increased release of cortisol. Cortisol can reduce inflammation but also disrupts pathogen presentation pathways in dendritic cells and can suppress il-8 cytokines that in a form of TB bound to the infection and stimulated CD4 & CD8 T Cells to the site of infection. This could effectively disrupt the identification and targeting mechanisms of our immune system to the virus. Cortisol can also lower circulating testosterone that helps regulate systematic inflammation. It can also increase ROS and oxidative stress which can increase extracellular atp which in turns can increase il-18 cytokines that cause deep vain thrombosis. Cortisol is also correlated with homocysteine that can cause platelet activation, damage to blood vessels and blood clots. Covid increases Il-6, TNF-a, il-beta and il-18 cytokines. Betaine lowers these cytokines, is a TLR4 inhibitor, temporarily increases testosterone, has anti inflammatory and anti thrombotic properties and lowers histamine levels. It also helps regulate cortisol and homocysteine. Hope this info helps

In my case, what has helped immensely are H1 and H2 antihistamines (higher dosage than usual) and even more importnantly niacin. The difference for me was like night and day. it may not help everyone, but a great many sufferers are reporting success with this protocol. I hope we can all heal from this horrible long virus!

Have you looked at Betaine TMG. It lowers key cytokines IL-6, IL-18, TNF-α, and IL-1β all of which are linked to Covid inflammation. It also inhibits TLR4 proteins which have been found to recognise the spike protein of the virus and triggering a hyper inflammatory T Cell immune response. The mechanism of disease of the virus maybe to trigger this hyper inflammatory T Cell response in order to trigger excessive release of the stress hormone Cortisol. This can lead to adrenal fatigue. Cortisol can disrupt the primary immune response by disrupting pathogen presentation pathways in dendritic cells and call suppress IL-8 cytokines which in a form of TB bound to the infection and stimulates T & B Cells to the sight of infection so cortisol effectively disrupts the identification and targeting of the immune response. Cortisol is also directly correlated with homocysteine which is linked to Alzheimer’s, can cause platelet activation, damage to blood vessels and blood clots. Cortisol can also cause increases Oxidative Stress and ROS that can cause increased extra cellular ATP which in turn can increase IL-18 cytokines causing deep vain thrombosis and inflammation. I hope this helps.

my dog who stayed by my side through the worst of my long covid. She wouldn't even leave to eat or drink when my family was at school and work. She was a big dog and would stand horizontally in front of me every time there was someone unknown in my house, to protect me. She had done this for years. Except for one time when my child's friend's mother came to get her. We ended up having coffee. My dog upon her entering my home stood in front of her sideways. I kept saying I am so sorry. I was worried she was afraid, as my dog was big. She said, no I'm not afraid. As we walked to the table Bella stood in front of her causing her to do a shuffle to the table. Bella sat between her and I did a half loop around her chair sat down barked then would do the same to me. For a couple months, I had no idea why. As I grew to know this woman she opened up about having Chronic Fatigue. Right around that time, a study came out saying dogs could smell long covid. That's when it hit me, Bella was alerting. She smelled like me. Same thing hands down i know this.

@brobinson8614
@brobinson8614 20 күн бұрын
@@sharlene4mylife Yes (i'll go back and edit that) I should have said around "half" of all Long Covid patients fit the Canadian Consensus Criteria for ME/CFS (which is the strictest criteria as must require 'Post Extertional Malaise' (PEM) a reasonably rare symptom in other diseases apart from late stage Multiple Sclerosis and late stage Cancer). However Dysautonomia is in most ME/CFS patients. Do you get worse after too much exertion? i.e. a pain increase or Dysautonomia symptom exacerbation? If so, is there a delay of 24 to 48 hours and then the worsening starts? Probably unlikely for you if you don't have fatigue, well I'm hoping not, because if PEM triggers then that is very hard to prevent happening without 'Pacing' out ones life. If no PEM then recovery is much more likely. That said there's plenty of people who had PEM and it slowly went away. However your symptoms sound neurological, especially having pain after covid. I had extreme pain in my hands during the infection, and I quickly took Paxlovid because I knew my nerves were under attack. Paxlovid was amazing, unfortunately only effective during the infection.

fibromyalgia, by any other names... The medical treatment is currently recommended is hide at home and suffer. ans avoid going to see a doctor, they don't have time to waste on your account. Just you complaining and no medical test to prove if you're not acting sick you're own life away. The look in their eyes when you're generalist doctor have 'dispose" of you and the new one is learning you have that diagnostic and he's thinking "nope, nope, nope!!! What I'm gonna do to get ride of her faster???" You know you're mistreated by the medical world when it became so obvious that anyone, not even long-covid sufferer, want to be compared to you and insult you on forum because they certainly don't have what you got. Otherwise, they know what will become of them.

It's especially sickening as proving and/or disproving those theories is quite easy if one IS WILLING to do actual research on patients. Like the theory involving persisting Covid: Simply do a study in which you give people Paxlovid for more than some days and look how they do. (It took them almost 3 years to figure out that this is a legit option and we still have no results from those studies as they don't publish them.) Then reactivated viruses: Simply test people for a bunch of reactivated herpes virueses (HS1, HS2, CMV, EBV) and some bacterial and other pathogens (Bartonella, Lyme disease, Mycoplasma, CHlamydia, Erlichia, Toxoplasma gondii) and then try to treat the reactivations. Of course, this would require standard medicine to be able to treat EBV, CMV or Toxoplasma infection and well they still don't want to admit that or are unwilling to finally include drugs that have been tested in pre-clinical studies only. By the way, given that EBV has been implicated in multiples sclerosis, schizophrenia and a bunch of other chronic diseases, then why do we still have no clinical trials of drugs against it? I think the main problem with Long Covid is that once the medical system starts to do stuff against it, they NEED to do stuff against other viruses and diseases as well. Big pharma does not like that.
