Nirvana is a word that has caught the imagination of Westerners. But what does it mean in the context of the Buddhist religion? Nirvana is our natural state when we have extinguished the Three Fires [/Three Poisons] in Buddhism of Greed, Anger/Hatred, and Delusion/Ignorance. In turn, we no longer create Karmic actions that have kept us trapped in the cycle of rebirth (samsara) which overall is Dukkha ("suffering").
