INFO: Periphery is an american progressive rock band formed in Washington D.C. in 2005. Over the years the band has proved to be one of the prime movers of the so called djent genre, although many would simply label them progressive metal or progressive metalcore. The band has released six studio albums and all of them were self-produced by the band members themselves. Their latest album Periphery IV: Hail Stan just released earlier this month and they’ve become quite creative with their video uploads. There’s a full documentary about the album’s creative and recording process on their youtube channel. And more than that, they also run their own label now. In this video we’ll talk about their discography, band members and a few background stories to get you up to date with the band

2 things I'd add: Djent was indeed influenced by Meshuggah but also the far lesser known Sikth, especially when it comes to the style that Periphery performs. Also Misha used to play in a band with Tosin Abasi and the founder of Sumerian Records Ash Avildsen. Jake Bowen is John Petrucci's nephew by the way.

@chrisataurY2K About 6-7 months ago guitarist Greg Tribbet said that Mudvayne reunion "will eventually happen". He said that around the time Vinnie Paul of Hellyeah died. I believe he's right, because there is no apparent continuation for HellYeah without the drummer, however, it is too awkward and/or early for the reunion talk even right now, cuz Hellyeah is said to release an album soon. By the way, Chad Gray replied to my comment once. I praised the "Not Falling" song and he seemed pretty grateful of Mudvayne's success.

I'm going to say something that I cannot say about any other band: Every single Periphery song good. Every. Single. Song. Don't care which song you land on, they are ALL amazing. If you haven't checked them out, do it. The amount of pure talent in this band is just fucking amazing.

And you know what else is fucking amazing? Meshuggah. They have no mediocre tracks. ALL of them are amazing.

Periphery have released five studio albums. Juggernaut Alpha and Omega is a double album that is one package.

_Clear_ is an EP, just like _Icarus._
@TMmodify
@TMmodify 5 жыл бұрын
@@miserirken it's 30 minutes and 7 tracks, so pretty fucking long for an EP,plus I believe the guys themselves said that it shouldn't be seen as an EP
@justahusk8151

@@TMmodify It's recorded as a package, and they share a name, and are also refered to as a unit, so I think it counts as one. Also, Clear is most definitely an EP.

Also missed their Icarus lives ep where they collaborated with many people in the music industry remixing their single Icarus lives (including dubstep artists) and using it to release a previous haunted shores song under the periphery brand with Spencer singing.

I personally was shocked by Hail Stan. Wasn't big on past albums at all, which is funny since prog metalcore / djent / prog in general's my favorite genre. My favorite band, Erra's, a prog metalcore/djent band, I love Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya, Vildhjarta, Invent Animate, Animals as Leaders, Chon, etc. Yet new Periphery. Hail Stan was fantastic. I reviewed it and it actually ended up getting a 9/10. Fantastic fucking album. :)

An important fact is that Jake Bowen is John Petrucci's nephew. I'm not saying John pushed their careers they are awesome anyway. I just found that fact interesting. To hear them play together is very cool. There's a video where they interview each other and they talk about being related. John taught Jake some but Jake is naturally talented.
