A few doubts 1. Hunger / Food Security /Feeding the World It is a fact that people are malnourished/hungry and in terms of protein nutrition we are falling back. I find the main culprit for this is more about affordability and availability is minor reason. A poor labourer is not eating protein because he/she can not afford it. It is not because shop is short of supplies of Dals or protein based products/ foods . So tell me how plant proteins/ plant protein based foods will be more affordable to a daily wage earner than simply buying Dals or lentils. Definitely plant protein based food will be costlier than eating dal or else profit of corporate will vanish. One more thing for cost is sourcing of protein . Is all protein is sourced from India /Indian manufacturers then also we can think of affordability/ boost to local economy. As per I know only sonic bio is a big player from India in plant protein or else all protein is coming from Europe or china. How it will support growth of local economy, safety untill India based producers are there in the market. Ultimately protein isolate/ concentrate will never be cheaper than eating Dals.

Educated customer like you and me is not having any protein malnutrition but on the name of protein malnourished people we are developing Products for the group which having already lot many option with great affordability. So there is a gap in vision and execution. 2. Sustainability: It is all about biomass conversion ratio for final nutrition. I very much agree that eating animals is going to cost us in terms of biomass burden in our food chain. But it is a fact that per capita meat consumption of continental like Europe and America is far higher( 60 to 90 kg / person/ year) than India( approx 5 kg /person/ year) . So it is obvious that growth percentage in consumption will be higher in country like India. When student passed with only 5% marks get 10%marks next year his growth rate is 100% compared to student passed with 91% getting 92%. Classic example of consumption pattern in India is you find far more veg shop or carts compared to meat shops. So ,We are already sustainable compared to other nations. So here there is no drive as we are already following sustainable practices. Even if wanted to a main stream product sustainable we need Indian Based manufacturers /processor of plant proteins or plant based ingredients . That only will make it sustainable and independent /atmanirbhar. Kindly suggest me 10 good supplier of Indian Based protein manufacturers. I can tell you 10Europe and China based supplier. If we import such products from any of this region we are adding carbon foot print of our food. We can promot more local and raw option /source of protein compared to pea/moong dal /soya protein imported from other countries. Or promote manufacturers to process those protein in India. Are such drive is going in your network. 3.Quality of Protein Raw protein will be more nutritious compared to isolate/concentrate . It is fact and I think you will also agree that during processing like extraction and spray/drum drying nutrition is depleted. So I don't see it a "Smart" way of consuming nutrition. Rather raw protein rich food is more fresh, natural, more sustainable, support local economy, nutritionally bio available. Easily digestible, less carbon foot print. So Better we promote Chilla,Vada, and other dal/lentil based preparation . Looking for your reply. It's a serious concern.

3. Market Innovation and Drive: Domestic consumption of these products are not going to much help in protein malnutrition/ feeding the world or sustainable goals. Yes if we become a global hub for manufacturing and exporting of processed products in India' it self without importing anything from outside . It will give better return to Indian manufacturers/ farmers (if profits reached there) and make us better in terms of export of such Product. It will increase awareness of such Product and improve affordability to our farmers and laborours. So having more money in pocket they can buy protein rich food.and we are able to feed the world. So flow should be reverse rather than what is happening now . Major European and Chinese exporters are seeking opportunities to export their ingredient to India. And we are loosing Foreign exchange leverage. So countries having more animal protein consumption are promoting vegan in already vegan country like us. We should supply vegan option to them and tap growing vegan awareness to leverage our domestic diversity of plant based foods and make our diversity sustainable and economically viable.
