The same as "But I'm not running the amp at full power because my gain is down" the gain control isn't a volume knob. It's still a 1000 watt amp.

As long as you don't clip (dirty sound) the speaker or the amp, you will not damage ether one. Some subs are too stiff to run too far under their rated wattage. In this case, this is not feasible, as it will not produce clean sound. The Klipsch R-625FA Floor standing Speakers are rated at 400 watts max. Yet, most theater amps push under 100 watts, and do a great job of driving them. My Denon (90 watt x 7) amp drives them, along with the rest of the system, louder and with more authority than I will ever need. 80% is painfully too loud, but still clean. The bottom line is, if your amp speaker combo gives you clean natural sound at levels that are useful to you, you have a viable system. Ratings are guidelines, not requirements.

I agree. Cranking a weak amp the max injects clipped terrible power to the subs= burnt blown sub. Clipped 500 watts to 2000rms sub =smoke show

Also,if you adjust the enclosure size to get maximum efficiency out of the sub,at that lower power rating,you can get good output. It's a neat combination.

I have the exact situation and i can agree obviously !600w rms hertz 10" 250 D.4 subwoofer 500w alpine mrx m50 amp head unit alpine 200ute bt roughly 31 liter box i use oscilloscope to set gains been doing this always my subs hit hard and i never distort them all underpowered by 100w there fine! Eventually ill go double 10" 1200w amp and build a box !great videos bro

I'm have a sundown sfb2k that I use two test out two different pairs of 12s. A pair of kicker CVX d4 and skar evl d4. Run both at 4 ohm and 1 ohm. I have to say kicker came out on top. Kicker had Diverse Sound quality, efficiency, and did their best at 4 ohm around 900 watts, 600 watts away from full potential.

Meanwhile I got a 10k rms amp for 2 ZV6 15's. It's all about having 0 distortion in your signal people. That solves majority of the issues in Audio.

This is why I’m such a big fan of Kicker’s KX series amps. The clip-light under the gain is quite an addition. I’ll never buy another amp without a clip indicator on the bass knob or the amp itself.

MB or anyone out there I would like your opinion and help. I have a KICKER 1200.1 rated for 600rms at 4 Ohms Its pushing a Kicker 8” Q Class Right now in a sealed box to help with the breakin . While I build my ported box. All I have access to is a multimeter and I set everything correctly as it should be. I even checked with kicker and other builders to make sure my math is correct Everything is wired correctly set at four ohms for 600 RMS I said it exactly to the volume I listen to I had the volts checked out on my DSP. Everything is in order as it should be. The game on the amplifier is set very low due to the very good high voltage output. I’m getting from the DSP. The problem is that when I max out that radio at the setting, I have it set for that sub is barely moving with any sound coming out I had to turn up the game on the amplifier, because simply everything else checks out as it should be Once I turned up the game on the amplifier, let me remind you that it’s still under half way the cell begin to come alive. I am kind of at a loss trying to figure out how I could’ve possibly done something wrong I do not have an oscilloscope semi multimeter in my ear or my only options Has anyone ever had an issue like this setting everything appropriately and still having a low volume output? The sub is not playing with any distortion that I know of even though I have had slightly turned it up after it being set exactly by the multimeter.

@@julesbruchez-outperformtra2020 depends on a lot of variables For 1 a sealed 8 doesn’t have very much output below 45hz What track did you use to set your gain ? Was it -3db 0db?

Thank you brother. My amp outputs 50 watts less than subs rms. The manufacturer does give an optimal range of like 200 watts. I got worried for a minute.

Great job explaining....I have Kicker cxa 800 rms on a 1200rms 3stack audiopipe 15in sub all stock electrical , my gain is set with my oscilloscope and it sounds amazing ask my neighbors😂... I Will upgrade to a Rockford Fosgate R2 prime 1200 Rms, upgrade my electrical extra battery,performance alternator and big 3.😅

I run Pioneer TS-a250d4 directly from sony dsx-gs80 head unit. it gets 88w rms in 2ohms and fills the car perfectly.

Hey man. I dont have much experiencie . But i always try to match my subs and my amp , now. I go all the way up on my gain and bass boost and frec all the way down. I have a bass knob or an ecualizer to regulate the volume on my bass . Thats because i dont like just bass but there is some.music that has less bass and o always try to make it sound evenly so i go a little higher with the bass knob . And if i'm listening like rap.or decaf. I barely turn it up to where my bass and my mids and highs sound equal .

I've got a 10 inch shallow mount pyle marine subwoofer. PLSMRW104WT for $32 at wallmart. I don't know too much about box building but I just had a go at it for my golf cart. 17 3/4 wide 12 3/4 tall and 8inch deep. That was outside measurements, then my material changed to 3/4 plywood.. I am not sure if I went too big or too small on the box... I'm using one of those $30 bluetooth amplifiers from Amazon at the moment with 2 channel output for highs and 1 output for a sub. I wish I could see someone test one of these waterproof subs with a real amp before I buy a cheap amp.. I have a 5inch ported home subwoofer that is slightly louder but more midbass. I'm sure its louder because of it's ported box and because it's pushing the lil sub harder. I hope I can keep my box sealed and that it's enough for this 10 inch subwoofer with an amp... Trying to make my golf cart jam on a budget..

I have a 2021kia soul? It has a150 amp factory alternator can't find a a higher one? So I have a bass 8k taramps pushing two sundown xv3 12s? With 400 ah of reserve? This is for daily driving? Amplifier stays cool no voltage drop because im not riding around full tilt and clipping my system? So thats just like underpowering a subwoofer? I have the power but there's no need to maximize my system?

I think the misunderstanding with power & speaker ratings is semantics : It only takes 1 watt to operate, move, create sound output from a speaker. The common mistake is turning up the volume & NOT having enough power / wattage to operate the speaker at it's full potential. While having the Correct amount of wattage & volume turned up speaker will reach it's full potential. Under powered speakers with volume turned up will result in damaged speakers. Volume knob is NOT a bass knob.

Using a 1000W sub on a 500W amp will leave performance on the table as you say. But to put it in perspective. You will only leave 3dB on that table. 3dB is not that much. And the number of people that would ever be close to ever feel the need to grab those 3dB on that table are probably very limited. And if they do, building a more efficient stiffer and better tuned sub box is mostly way better then upgrade the amplifier.

Korean is dogshit old technology. Taramps full bridge kicks Korean amplifiers butt all day. Lmao. Anyway op to answer you, no. What you need to do is stop using the filters on the smart 3k and use a dedicated dsp to set the hpf and lpf filters between 25-80hz etc. When you use the filters on the amplifier it drops the power level a lot. Keep you taramps and just get a proper processor.

No . They’re speaking on the fact that most people run amplifiers that can’t produce enough clean power and people tend to clip the Input and outputs in an amp. If the sub is rated 800rms and you send it 600rms of clipped power you are creating tons of extra heat. If you send it 600rms of clean power it will never burn up

Man i was hanging with you right up till the point of "Clipped Signals". Clipping the amplifier doesnt kill the sub either, this is another misnomer :( If you think im full of shyte, then try it yourself. Take a smaller 50 watt amplifier, hook it up to one of your DD subs and clip the shyte out of the outputs and your DD will continue to play for hours upon hours and that clipped signal will not blow or melt your DD's voice coil

@@ricardomolina4605 seriously try it yourself use a 100 watt amp, clip the outputs and feed the sub and tell me how long it takes to cook the voice coil… again this is about clipped signal only regardless of power. Heck if a clipped signal will burn a voice coil, do it with 10 watts clipped

@@M.B.Enclosures Clipped signals on their own do not cook voice coils. if they did, you could kill any sub with a clipped signal from a 30 watt amplifier.... heat saturation of the voice coil is what burns the coils. and YES clipped signals can add to this as they hold the a portion of the voice coil outside of the gap for extended periods of time and when the coil is outside of the gap it can no longer dissipate heat into the motor structure... But clipped signals are not the only way to saturate a voice coil with heat and prevent it from cooling itself
