How should you respond to the threat of wildfire? The full answer to this requires knowledge about wildfire behavior, which is affected by the science of fire, the terrain, weather, and fuel. Mark Brown, Executive Officer for the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority explains these factors so you can make well informed decisions to stay safe.

Mark, as a retired forest manager that lives in an WUI area great video. Keep up the good work.

Wonderful to see so much diversity of our beautiful land in Marin while taking in precisely stated principles of fire dynamics. Video design, content accessibility and presentation all top notch. And Mark Brown, not one "um," "ah," or other filler. Public speaking A+. Not yet through this year's fire season. Chance favors the prepared mind. Thank you.

This is pretty cool. Something I'd appreciate is a video detailing what the experience of being evacuated in different parts of Marin would look like; How to best handle the flow of traffic on different main roads in marin during an evacuation, what to do in the case of evacuating from one of the houses on the higher dead end roads, how to handle red lights during an emergency evacuation, what to do if traffic comes to a stand-still during an evac, etc.

Excellent suggestion and that is actually on the drawing board for one of our next videos. And we are working with UC Berkeley to create a virtual evacuation experience for residents. We are still very much in the design stage, but we do have story boards created. We're very excited about this.

Lots of good information but the notion that moss is indicative of direction is terribly false. Moss likes shady, damp conditions- and shade and moisture could come from a gully or even a tall building with a landscaping sprinkler system that is set to high.

We agree, in damp/moist areas (for whatever reason) moss will grown anywhere. But out in the higher and exposed slopes, this is generally true.
