Larry came home from work with his back really messed up and we missed our own video premiere. Sorry, everyone. He's doing better now. But, it took a lot of liniment and ice. Needless to say this unexpected injury threw us for a loop, resulting in us not being here for the premiere. You all chatted with one another and seemed to be having a good time, though.

@@angryoldman9140 , that's what is so weird about back injuries. The ice numbs it and takes down the swelling. But, then on "day 2" it's almost worse. He's comfortable now. Fingers crossed. He was carrying a heavy battery into work today and I think he put pressure on one side of his back. Lots of muscle pain and swelling.

I would stock SOME canned beans. If you're stuck without power, you won't want to waste butane/propane to cook those dry beans. Having some canned ready-to-eat should be part of emergency planning. Some Texans were without power AND water for a week or more in Feb polar freeze event.

I think having an Insta pot is a major item to have. If you have a generator you can use it to cook beans much quicker than without one. Or if your just trying to use less electricity. Also cooks meat to tender quicker.

I definitely see the benefit of having some canned food items for exactly the reason you are saying. For the purposes of stocking up in case supply chain issues cause future food shortages or inflation, however, I agree with Hope and Larry. I always keep both types in my pantry for the reasons that both you and Hope and Larry state.

If Larry and Hope are suspecting (as I am) that the food line is in serious trouble, I don't feel as crazy any more. You are two of the sanest people I watch. I go on other channels and send them here. People -especially women - are trying to prepare for this crisis on budgets and need some lessons on how and where to save and how to spend.

Shara, we think you're right. I think they are telling us it will be fixed by summer to keep us from panicking. But, I really think it's going to take longer than that and prices are going to really go up.

every morning I cook water for my tea and put it in a thermos, during the day I drink tea from this water without boiling it again. (and I use the same teabag to) The next morning the water is stil a little warm. I put half a cup of oats in a bowl with a little sojamilk for the creamyness and half a cup of water from the thermos. Put a plate on the bowl and get dressed and washed. then the oats are softend, I put some mixed seeds in there and some homemade jam, it fills you up and tastes great. I cook new water for the tea I am going to drink that day....and so on.....

For oatmeal in the microwave, I put old fashioned oats and water in a bowl and microwave for 2 minutes on power 8. The low power prevents it from bubbling all over the place.

One thing that I have started doing is when I am out and about on a day of errands and it’s not my actual “grocery shop” I spend up to $5-$10 on some stock up items, it’s actually really starting to add up, or if I get an unexpected amount of money, I will use some of that for stocking up, I had an unexpected $10 come into my account, even though that’s a small amount, I used it for some stock up items, you may not have a lot of money to stock up at once, but these 5-10$ adds up! It’s doable on a small budget!

Can foods last forever. My wife bought can vegetables for. 50cents a can at Walmart. Also canned beef stew and meats. Oatmeal and dried beans, white rice that we put in mason jars with oxygen absorbers. Bought canned soups as well. We also had camping stoves and purchased more propane tanks. She also found a good deal on canned hams. She also knows how to make hot water cornbread.

Totally agree on the price difference between dry and canned beans, but I would suggest keeping some canned on hand for emergencies. I live in Texas and have an electric stove. During the winter storm in February, it was impossible to cook beans from scratch. Our power would kick on for 15 min and go off for hours, so the most we could do was cook in short spurts. Thank you for this video! Such an important topic and after living through that storm, I know how important it is to keep an emergency stock of non perishable food.

i cook my old fashioned oats in my rice cooker. Put oats, liquid and berries in the small rice cooker and its all hands off cooking. I love it!

We live in a rural area with only one local market and a dollar store. The next closest store is a Walmart 52 miles away. We shop there once a month for all shelf stable food, and perishables at local store. We buy our beef fr a rancher.

I agree to keeping money ready for when you find deals. A few months ago at the Dollar Tree store I found packs of crackers w/ Peanut Butter 4 to a package, close to their expiration date for just a quarter. I stocked up . Recently, little jars of jams and mustards were reduced at the same store chain also to a quarter. Once the jam is gone, the jars will be turned into containers holding handmade face, body, foot cream ready to be given away next Christmas. Keep 👀 open for deals

As far as oats are concerned, in Australia we make Anzac cookies, they were created during the first world war because of food shortage and they lasted for longer than normal homemade cookies. And they are so yummy. I also believe they were good for sending to solders as a sweet treat from home.

I heard that Dollar Tree is raising their prices, but...you can't blame them what with gas prices rising. I will continue to shop there as they will still be a lot lower than even Walmart on most things. Cooking from scratch will still be the cheapest way to eat in the long run. Ohhh the happyness of finding a screaming good deal! I once found dried peas for 20 cents a pound at Aldi. I am still happy every time I get a packet of those peas out of my party.

Also corn meal is also great for breakfast instead of oats. Savoury or sweet. I always have oats in our pantry. Always use it. Another thing that’s great is pumpkin purée. It’s great in breads, smoothies and soups. Quick dinners and breakfasts. A money saver.

I found 1 lbs quick oats for $1 each & 1 lbs pink Himalayan salt for $1 each at Dollar Tree. Both cheaper than Walmart

Baby carrots are just pieces of a fully-grown, regular adult carrot, cut into two-inch fragments by a machine. Once cut up, another machine rounds off the edges, so that the carrots end up looking like the ones you buy at the grocery store. The shredded leftovers usually end up in cattle feed.

The way I learned to eat rice was my mother put some sugar on it. Later I used soy & soy/Kimchee. Now I can eat it anyway. My mom grew up in depression & still cooked & bought from those lessons. We ate SPAM a lot or fried baloney. I’ve found spam has a long shelf life.

I can’t wait until your next video. My biggest hesitation to buying certain food is that I don’t ever know what to make with it. I can find a recipe for using an item but then I’m stuck with the rest of it and I don’t want the same meal all over again. The rest usually goes to waste so I avoid buying things. I cook Old Fashioned oats most mornings. It takes 12 minutes. 6 minutes on high and 6 on low with our gas stove. I can hear the timer everywhere in the house so get lots of other stuff done.

In the Netherlands we don't have and emergency food pantry tradition. Most people have supermarkets near by, and we also don't have tornados and stuf in our country. Bur now maybe we must do a little bit of prepping, as prices go up here also. and an other thing,....we hardly have power outages in our country. In the usa I belive you have a lot of cables above ground ( never been to USA though)

i live in fl now, but I used to live in RI. We had a Dollar Tree Plus. I think it went up to $10, but most things were under $5 I liked it because they sold some regular dollar tree stuff in bigger quantities. I cant wait for it to come here Especially with the craft area.

I saw a show on TV that showed baby carrots origin. It’s a way to use the deformed carrots, they shave down deformed and sub par sizes to mini/baby carrots 🥕 Before mini carrots they just tossed them out or sold them for cheap to feed lots , etc.

Dollar tree- yes I heard you tubers say that company announced that. If I am out of power for a day or 2, no problem . I have enough fruit, cheese, crackers, p.b. and jam-usually I have a meal leftover, Ill eat cold pizza, pasta or cooked veggie or salad. I also could use the bar b q if I had to cook up meat. I have Ice in the freezer so Im good for a week if not opened. I have water in basement. Pantry for shortages.. I have dried beans, lentils, split peas, brown rice, wild (in refrigerator), white rice, corn meal, ( I have 4-5 different bread flours), yeast (in freezer), old f. or quick oats, a lot of nuts, seeds and dried fruit, maple syrup, honey, raw sugar, brown sugar, powdered sugar, box of powered milk, jars of spices, sauces and oils, pasta ....canned soup, beans, baked beans,evap milk, corn, beets spinach, tuna, salmon... etc My Bean favorites : Hummus, Cuban Bk bean soup, Lentil soup, pea soup, Red beans and rice,. burritos and Chili.

Practically all of the other KZfaqrs who have recently been talking about stocking up their pantries have at least somewhat of a prepper slant to their advice. For instance, they would be advising people to buy canned over dry beans in case “the world ends” and we no longer have electricity. My friend owns a franchise of Dollar Tree. Yes, they are going above $1. The misunderstanding is the fact some items may go up but the biggest reason is they can bring in many new items that cost more than a dollar. They are in competition with Dollar General who offers a larger diverse of products to sell. It is about being competitive in the market.

Im on SSI. I go to 4 food pantry every week. ( 75%of my food) Most everything i BUY is on sale. Unless iv run completely out. I buy canned veggies in summer when on sale ( for the year) Same with canned fruit, jelly ect. Fresh produce isnt bought unless its in season and iv done without for at least a week.( didnt get it at free pantry) I also buy all cleaning and soaps this way. Trash bags are bought on sale and kept 3 to 6 months worth at home.

We only do name brand on cat food,$4 per 3 pound bag meow mix tender centers at dollar general. Dawn dish soap $3.50 for a 48 ounce bottle at dollar general. And tide laundry soap.it depends on what size,but we generally buy the 64 ounce jug for around $10 at dollar general. Bar soap,again dollar general.8 bars of irish spring or dial is $6.50

Yay, Ann. I love that you know my favorite word is "Prioritize." I know more about actual percentages after I do our end-of-year totals for each budget category. When the boys were young and money was tighter, I had a better handle on our exact percentages.

We buy grits in 50 pound sacks. We have a grain meal, so will grind the grits if we want meal or flour instead of the grits. Also old-fashioned oats can be soaked in your bowl overnight, then zap for a minute in the microwave in the morning. I set up our bowls and whatnot the night before.

Hope and Larry, I can tell you something that is so true. I used to live in Georgia where the peanut butter is made. It is for the most part ALL THE SAME. There might be a slight variant on how much sugar or honey that has been added to that variety. So do not be afraid to buy an off brand peanut butter. Speaking of dried beans, I just put 2 cups of dried beans to soak over night. LOL Oh my goodness. I buy great big bags of rice and it is so yumm. Yes some people have posted that Dollar Tree is raising prices. Folks there are so many easy recipes out there on those rice dishes that you like. Plus the little packets of oats have all sorts of added toxic ingredients that are not in the whole oats.

I started using Walmart great value brand for everything when I didn't have time to clip coupons when I had 3 babies under 3 when you have 3 babies with you at the store you just pray you get everything on the list let alone trying to fumble with coupons . I still buy generic. I went to dollar tree and the cashier told me that our store is not changing from what I understand not all dollar trees will be raising prices but we will see I am still stocking up on many items that I buy there. I buy both kinds of oats some will eat the regular oats but I have an autistic child that has texture issues and will only eat the packets. I will have to try this method and see if he will eat it.

Make sure you have tons of water stockpiled if you’re going to need to deal with dry beans. I would rather use water to drink but dry beans do make way more in general. Just takes longer and more water. I make rolled oats by just microwaving w almond milk for one minute then covering and letting sit maybe five minutes to soak up liquid.

In Maine our Dollar Trees finally raised most of their prices to $1.25. I had heard about it long before via yourube channels in other states so spend December and early part if January stocking up. People that us a 25% increase ! I didn't realize the last time Was I went that the increase had taken place and was shocked BUT, except for sneaking in to buy Bagels , I am done with Dollar Tree for a long time - thank goodness I stocked up

That was a fun “buy this not that” game! I enjoyed all of the tips and maybe I’m undercooking my oats 🤔 They seem fine to me but when Larry said 20 minutes on low, and Hope used a food processor to make them quick oats, yeah maybe I’m doing them wrong🤷‍♀️ I enjoy them though, i need to step up my topping game though. We have chia, flax, dried cranberries or bananas. I had a Larry and Hope conversation in my head last night! I wanted pizza last night (my version is a veggie, extra sauce) the owner laughs and calls it veg dough 😂 Anyways, I was about to turn around and put in my order when I remembered I had one more meal at home from cleaning out my refrigerator that I needed to make. I came home and made fresh veg and noodle soup for one within 30 min and have plenty of leftovers. Homemade food sure does multiply:) Also I didn’t spend extra money 👊 Thank y’all :)

Our best advice to you is to inventory your pantry (so you know what you already have on hand) and then write down an exact list of what items you feel you still need to stock up on. as you are able to find them, cross them off your list. Honestly, just getting everything written down and coming up with a plan will make you feel much less stressed. Hang in there.

Think of proteins, peanut butter, tuna fish, spam and other caned meats if you can afford them. The prices keep rising. Do what you can. Pastas. Foods that keep and you can add all kinds sauces to enhance the flavors of rice, pasta..... Caned Veggies and fruits. Sit down and write ideas down.Think of back up for water have a plan. "Filtration system" If they shut down power one day. I feel for you being responsible for a family. I don't have anybody. I have to wing it myself. Doing my best. Pray as well Jesus Christ will carry us to the end......♥️

Not only are all the things you named in the "buy this, not that"-section cheaper, they also come with less plastic or other packing material. Instant oatmeal in these little sachets bring an insane amount of packaging.

I agree that buying when things on sales. I got pork lions 5 dollars 7 percent hamburger 2.98 coupon Albertson's ground turkey 2.50 Albertson's sales beer bratwurst 2.50 aldi sale you can get meat on sale just look at all sales o food adds

Yeah, Dollar Tree has already announced they're planning to raise some prices, and were testing higher pricing points in quite a few stores. Sad days, a good time to stock up lol

Thanks for all your useful tips. For stocking up on Rice,Lentils,dry fruits and nuts,spices visit the nearby Indian grocery store like Patel Brothers.They have a Diwali sale during this time every year where we usually stock up all the items on sale.

This is about Dollar Tree, in my area (Tx) at a couple stores there was a small section of items at higher price point. I think it was 5.00. It was called Dollar Tree plus. I do think that Dollar Tree will try to keep their original 1.00 per item model as much as they can but are trying to find ways to also have items at a slightly larger price point. The signs I read said they are committed to bringing their customers great value at competitive prices. I think they are doing a great job and I still love Dollar Tree. Times are tough and when there is a store literally called Dollar Tree and they are stuck at this 1.00 per item price point, something will eventually have to give somewhere. I think Dollar Tree plus is a great idea and it doesn't mean that the dollar part is going away, at least any time soon, even Dollar Tree needs some flexibility.

My Dollar tree has added the $3 and $5 aisles. It's disappointing because it looks to be mostly kids stuff, it will make it a little difficult to let the kids ' Go Wild' with their spending money😉

Luckily here in Australia its rare to have a food shortage, during this pandemic, what I see is prices have gone up. It seems the supermarket chains are monopolizing on cashing in on people panic buying. I am lucky to live in a state where our state leader has been very good at controlling our borders. We live a fairly normal life and have done so for at least a year. Supermarkets are also controlling sale items and when they are available. I have a cat and prior to 2020 it was every 8 weeks the price of cat food would be reduced by at least $3-4, I buy in cartons and boxes to save money. Last week was the first time in 6 months the price came down a whole $1.50.

Best place to buy carrots is Sam's. $2.98 for 5 lb of organic carrots!! Cheaper then our Aldi's. I'm finding the regular grocery stores are sometimes cheaper than Aldi's now.

Interesting! Our SAMS membership ran out in April and we still haven't renewed it. I think we need to sit down and decide if we are saving more every year than we would spend on the membership.

@@UndertheMedian I buy 2- 5 lb bags a week and also romaine lettuce every other week. Toilet paper but it lasts awhile. Paul likes Sam's that's why we have it and Costco. I get cash back every year at Costco when I buy gas plus their organic fruit is just to hard to beat for the price

I was just on another channel back east and they shop at Aldis and Dollar Tree. They have seen, and they showed it, shelves that were bare at DT. They were excited to get bleach and a shipment of Christmas decorations. Patara from Appalachia's Homestead had heard that DT was going to raise prices too but after she shopped there she said they had not. Adding, it's hard to raise prices when stock isn't coming in.

In England we have Poundland and they now have £2, £3 and £5 items after years of all being £1! It's really lost it's appeal as you can often find the same items much cheaper in regular discount stores.

I can only go to one store because I have to take a cab, we don't have farmers markets, Amish stores., or discount stores. I would love to buy peanut butter, grains and beans because i',m allergic to 100 or more foods.

Hope larrys feeling better now. We shop mainly at aldi but do buy odd bits at the other supermarkets. I have been buying lidls veg boxes £1.50 each. Theyre fantastic, saves me at least £5 a go. 2 items in box are worth more than we pah for the box. On yr advice ive also go to turkish supermarket for good too
