Thank you Mark Drost and the crew of Indianhead Scuba
On today’s episode of Wisconsin fisherman we recover my snowmobile and the other that also went in on the same day. Mark Drost and his dive team did a great job getting everything back for us! We really appreciate all the help that we got.
Thank you everyone for your efforts.
I Really Hope you Enjoyed

Sweet! When I was a kid we used to watch snowmobiles skip open water upstream from my house. I remember the first one I ever saw sank it. It was only 2-3 feet deep and we randomly had a length of rope so he walked back out and tied it on so we could help pull it out. One of his buddies drove him home to change and then he came back and worked on it until it fired back up. Sometimes you get lucky and live and sometimes you get even luckier and so does your sled.

People die every year by venturing out on the ice before ensuring it is safe. You are lucky you are around to tell this story.

In the late 1960's, 2 of my cousins went through the ice on Lake Superior near Sault Saint Marie, Michigan. Unfortunately, they were lost to us forever. I'm glad everyone in this video made it out ok, but never underestimate the Great Lake they call Gitche Gumee.

I worked in a small engine shop and that was my job the second year I worked for them. I had to disassemble and clean two Polaris snowmobiles that had gone to the bottom. The sad part was the drivers drown. The family requested both sleds be repaired and sold as a fund raiser to pay funeral costs. Insurance doesn't cover snowmobiles dropped through the ice. Be cause of possible rust issues, I moved quickly to remove parts and drop those parts in a tub of WD40. WD is a water displacer. The oiler system and fuel system had to be drained and flushed. The exaust had to be drained and flushed with WD. The seats were water logged but because I did upholstery with a friend( not at the time) we sent the seats to him to have him properly dry them out. It took me a week to do each sled. There was sand and silt in both engines so They had to be cleaned really well. I got paid separately for my part because I was subbed out by the shop. They told me they couldn't have done it because they were already busy. It gave me the creeps thinking two guys died riding those machines.

Is water skipping a skill every guy should learn?
@glenmallory9982
@glenmallory9982 2 ай бұрын
My two cents is a yes and a no. Yes theoretically you might be able to learn how to skip on certain sleds, but big touring machines I’d imagine make poor skippers. Best to just think twice and inquire about ice thickness before going on ice.

I've always liked the seat and luggage rack setup on these Cats. The 2up seat can be removed and give more room for gear. I have the 2000 Panther 440 fan and then a 2008 M8. It's nice to have an older rough fan cooled sled for when shit like this happens. Glad you got it running again though.

Glad to see it worked out for you to retrieve your equipment. I'm sure someone has already mentioned it, but if not...You might think about buying a TON of rice and putting all the electronic equipment in it for at least two months to dry out. Preferably near a dry heat source. You'll be surprised how well that will work. Hopefully, you won't have to replace it that way.

Next time...You put the hummingbird in a rubbermaid with 2 bags of rice and seal the lid. 2 days and it should be dry. May not work but did for me on my 2 way radios.
