This video looks at line underwater to see which colors disappear the most in different conditions with different back drops. Whereas some manufacturers claim that red line disappears underwater we found no truth to that claim. However pink flourocarbon line was very hard to see. Also, when looking from the bottom of the ocean toward the surface we found high-vis green was actually difficult to see.
40lb Yo-Zuri Pink Flourocarbon Line: amzn.to/2l8oLOM (I found this to be one of the hardest to see)

Unless the water where you fish is crystal clear I do not think it makes a difference. Where I fish. the Delaware river and the Jersey shore the water is stained and has a great deal if debre in it. So in my opinion the fish are used to seeing junk in the water so the line does not bother them.

Very helpful, thanks. I think one of the big factors into colors is how many times a fish has been caught & released. They may associate a particular line or lure with a very painful poke in the mouth. I will say, though, my grandson's first try at fishing caught a largemouth with several lip tears from previous catches, and it grabbed at a simple grub like it was candy.

Great video, went fishing day before grouper season closed in Fl. My buddy and I using same rig, egg slider stopped by swivel and a 4ft fluorocarbon leader with size 7 hook using Sardines hooking them the same way…In an hour he caught about 12 me ZERO then I realize the only difference was I had braid to my swivel he had clear mono. Changed over to my other rig with white/clear mono and whalla fish on almost immediately. We were fishing about 3 ft. from bottom. Caught 20 plus groupers and only 3 keepers….Cheers

I consider that white color is the best for topwater game. Because you could see the two big company in Japan, YGK and Varivas, their long casting series adopt white color mainly. That totally explains what color is the best braid for topwater. Although Varivas' most expensive casting line is grey, it claims it is stealth. Hope one day you could test the line's visibility.

Fluorocarbon line generally does very well against a background of nothing. Fluorocarbon isn't invisible, it's just clear as the same amount of light passes through it as does water, so in empty water it is clear however it's not see through and that shows up contrasting against objects like grass or rock. Still relatively clear but since background colors doesn't pass through it as well as light there is a distinctive line contrasting the color difference. I'm guessing that's also why it shows up in the murky water, as it's not clear and has enough color of its own to be a contrast. That, or the gunk on the water made it darker causing the light to make it appear brighter but thats probably not the cause as less light in general would effect the light hitting the line as well.

In stained water, I like the Mr Crappie hi vis, and the low vis Red Cajun, being able to see my line clear as day has gotten me out of a lot of snags. I'll see my line kind of start to tense up and stop moving before I even feel my snag, slack line it for a couple seconds and give it some featherlight pops and it comes right out the snag at least 90 percent of the time. It makes me feel like a boss when I'm bridge fishing heavy cover and getting snagged up way less than the people next to me 😎.

Once again the fluoro (first and third from the right) lines are no less visible than the mono line (second and fourth from the right) in most light conditions. When they say "Fluoro caches more", I think they must mean catches $$ from anglers. Search youtube for on fluoro test : do you see a host of manufacturers demonstrating how their fluoro is less visible than mono? NO - you see hardly any such videos, and when you do they are nowhere near thorough and from various angles. This fact says it all.

Clear mono has worked for over 50 years and still works great today. That's all i use. The bait you're using and how you present it is most important. I agree flouro is a gimmick just like red line, although I love using red line for backing

First, thanks for sharing this, great info:) But I have to ask. I fish after Nordic salmon in saltwater, the water is blue\green and have some brown seaweed etc. I fish in the top water layer (i guess it is maximum 10 meters deep to the bottom). I am fishing in the shoreline throwing my fishing lure. Will a good choice for me be GREEN braid like Power Pro? Also if i want to use fluorocarbon leader, is the PINK color the best choice here? Do you have a brand you recommend etc for that?

From a fish's perspective I don't think color of line matters much, they don't have the capacity to think, "hey, there's a human trying to catch me on the other end!" Color of bait matters, somedays more, somedays less.

Robert That was back before the waters were over fished. The population is larger and the demographics are different. In the last couple out decades there have been large numbers of people coming from asia, haiti, Pacific Islands, the Caribbeans, cuba.... These countries traditionally consume a lot of fish (weather they fish or support commercial fishing operations). Fish are smaller and less numerous then in grandpa's day.

Great video presentation and editing. : ) We do know that fish respond to different colors. We do not know what their brain perceives it as in the visual light spectrum. Similar cell structure of cornea, lens, rods and cones, retina, the macula and optic nerve does not mean that the fish 'sees' color like humans do. We frail humans will never have eyes like birds, mammals, reptiles, fish, insects or spiders. People then percieve what we 'see' by only seeing what we want to see....or believe

+NMP- TV Looking up bright green blends in well with the bright sky, which is good if your fishing top water plugs. Darker green will blend in with the pond water as well looking down and out to the side. There is a shot at 3:17 when we were in green tinted water and our green tinted flouro did well here. It might give you an idea of how green blends in. Here is a link to a video I did where I filmed a bait going through pond water. Two years back, offshore I was fishing with a guy: we both had 25 lb main line, same color and type braid, leader, same weight, same length, same hook--from the same package, and both with the same fluorocarbon BRAND--but mine was "clear" and his was color "multi". Both fishing live anchovies. He took seven big yellowtail and I was zip. I changed to his COLOR of fluoro--and wallah! I started catching fish at his rate. I can't sort it, how can you beat "invisible" clear fluoro? Is it that "clear" is not in fact, clear in water which is colored?

some lines actually glow almost, with the UV rays, but we can't see that. now alot of people assume that lines that are as invisible as possible should be the best. and one would think a line that is highly visible(due to UV reflectivity) would be bad and spook the fish. but, from everything i have been able to find, fish use that UV sight for attraction purposes, to feed largely, but some it's even to choose a mate. so i have come to figure that a UV line would actually "attract" the fish, and not spook them. and it would make sense, the manufacturers aren't making them glow for us, since we can't even see that.

I found your video interesting I started what your doing many years ago with invisibility of lines I like you thought that if it can't see the line I would catch more fish, when it comes to choice of lines it's like the lures,do you want the fish to see them or not, what I'm getting at here is fish are afraid and spooked by what they cannot see not by what they can see,it's like us walking into a cobwebs at night it spooks you,if you see them ? Braid is solid in colour and dark that's why you catch fish,if you go along the lines that they can't see it then you will catch the village idiots, all fish are predators but also the hunted.Whether you use braid, flouro, mono makes no difference it's presentation. Just think about what it is your trying to achieve and don't copy cos you learn nothing. Give it a go,I did. I use green or black for On the bottom and blue at or near the surface.👍

Hello . You can't nanofil wound in the bobbin .You have most likely damaged . He is so eager to get in the inertial coil after reloading in the future on the nodes and where was bent on the bobbin. And here generally without regard to the chain block that performs the rod or spinning reel. All soldered strands to this exposed. My English is not native language sorry .

Nonsense, before having fluorocarbone lines in our lifes, people were fishing better then now. Just a scam to spend more money

+saskaleb Sometimes you can catch fish on rope cause they are biting so good! Sometimes fish are finicky and the flourocarbon helps. Flouro is harder to see than mono. Its not necessary but sometimes it helps!

saskaleb Why stop there? Might as well stop using conventional rods and reels all together and just start hand-lining sinew lines and stone hooks.

I get way more strikes with a fluorocarbon leader. Some fish species just aren't line shy.

How fishing line looks to your eyes matter not at all. It is not about red disappearing. Fish do not see the same way humans see, and there is very solid scientific evidence that fish are color blind in the red spectrum. This is also true of some shades of green. How much this matters is up for debate, but nothing is as meaningless as using your eyes to tell what line colors look like to fish.

I think that depends on the fish. Bass seem to really like red glitter in worms at least in my area. You could throw a watermelon seed color bait next to a watermelon red bait and the one with red glitter will usually outperform the other on most days.So if they can;t see red then why does it matter if there is red glitter or not in a bait?

Fish can see colour but not in the way we do... they are usually dichromatic and peak absorption different etc... you’d have to take a multispectral camera image of the lines and then convince that with some absorption fn that matches the pigments found in the particular fishes eyes. I did this for an MSc project that looked into why some species evolved the vision that they have.

Fish don't normally look down for prey. They usually look up. Try running your test again contrasting the line with the sky. A fish doesn't know what a fishing line is. All that fish know is eat, reproduce and survive. I've proven many times that I'm somewhat smarter than a fish, but not always. You have a great day.

+samiam1150 Thanks, that's a good point! I tested the line looking down because sometimes I run a line midway in the water column and wanted to compare the two different angles. At 2:30 in the video I hold the line up to the sky to get a contrast. I also have another video where I look at lures and lines as they are trolled overhead. Here is the link for that: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r7ucm5B_p9aaZqM.html Thanks again for the comment and have a great day as well!
