In his first five seasons, Patrick Mahomes has already won a Super Bowl and league MVP. According to FOX Bet SportsBook, Mahomes is currently tied for the best odds to win MVP this season. In a recent article, the Kansas City Chiefs' QB was mentioned as the heir apparent to the GOAT throne currently held by Tom Brady. TB12 has won seven Super Bowls and won three MVPs. That is true greatness and the fact that people just skip him past guys like Peyton Manning and Joe Montana is just pathetic And he definitely is not Tom Brady, Tom Brady literally went into Patrick Mahomes building and beat him with a much less talented team and out played him when it counted most. Patrick Mahomes poor play in the first half of that AFC championship game cost his team a chance to go to the Super Bowl in 2018. He is the most spectacular quarterback we have ever seen and that does not mean he is on Tom Brady‘s or Joe Montana’s level

The Patriots had never won one ever until Brady and he got 6 and another on another team. Pat is an all time talent but I don’t think he should be compared to Brady until he wins more. Brady just had a better season than him last year and won a super bowl more recently on top of that against the Chiefs.

I’ve played football and been watching for 25 years. Mahomes is the greatest pure qb talent I’ve ever seen. The pocket awareness, arm strength, arm slots, progressions I’ve never seen at such a high level at once. I don’t really care if he ever catches Brady in SBs because that’s just an argument made for TV and to keep us talking. He’s gonna get at least a couple more as long as the chiefs build a good roster

Yeah, Brady's DEFENSE caused rule changes due to harassing colts players in the playoffs in '03 and '04, and he wasn't even that great until 2007.

And he was great in 2001 and on he just wasn’t asked to fully carry the offense until the era changed and they gave him weapons. Greatness is not defined by stats… especially in football

Greatness is about playing big in big situations, not just about stats. Mahomes plays big when it matters. He doesn't always win, but he always plays big - and unlike the other young QBs mentioned he's actually won the big game. It's unfair to compare him to Brady right now. Compare the two when their careers are both finished.

Agree. I think Mahomes has the best chance to surpass Brady out of the current crop of QBs, but the odds are still heavily stacked against him. Brady has done a great job taking care of his body, but he has also been lucky to last this long. This is the case with anyone who can play this long in their sport.

He was in a terrible situation so of course he threw the most interceptions. If we're trying to cast doubt on character, Brady has played horribly in multiple super bowls, does business with a snake oil salesman who tried to disguise himself as a doctor so he could steal money from cancer patients. Brady is a proven cheater, took a $960K government loan to buy a yacht two years ago, likes to kiss children, has most likely paid the officials at least once, and does all sorts of shady business off the field! Top defense argument doesn’t work once you’ve realized a lot of the greats also had top defenses during their career…they just couldn’t capitalize it as often as Brady. Just look up when Montana, Manning, and Rodgers won, they all had top defense. I’m sure your football knowledge is far better then that of his peers who consistently vote him the best or near the top every year.

He won’t ever surpass Brady. Brady played for one of the most stubborn head coaches ever and had to make the ingredients around him better. Couldn’t throw the ball deep like Rodgers and Mahomes because he didn’t always have those deep threat weapons for most of his years in New England. Randy Moss for only two full seasons and Gronk who would usually miss games. Guarantee no other quarterbacks would win Super Bowls with guys like Edelman, amendola, and chris hogan on their offense because their playing style will never allow them to truly elevate these type of receivers on every game day. Rest my case. Mahomes might have a case for number 2 greatest of all time when his career is said and done.

Injuries will be the obstacle. Brady may not have the iron man record but, outside of 2008, he's started and ended every game in his career. Mahomes is always hobbling at the end of every year. I think the only year he wasn't nursing an injury, he won his Super Bowl.

@?? i dont recall even mentioning brady v specifically. i was talking a general case when people say two comparable qbs out played one another on the field which is not neccesarily the case. in basketball it is very cut and dry for the most part the two players are on the court simultaneously impacting the game. but lamar jackson isnt trying to sack joe burrow. obviously a qb could have a bad game where they are careless with the football and/or inaccurate. but its an offense vs defense game, a bad defense can make a mediocre qb look like hes the best in the league. hence i think although mahomes had a great game vs teh cardinals that was more arizona being inept, had he done that against the bills it would have been more impressive.

@?? are we really talking overall numbers for a qb that has played 23 years, flip montana and brady in terms of era and he would most assuredly have comparable numbers. brady is easily the most accomplished qb now and probable in the future but numbers is not the metric that i would go by. originally i was making a qb v qb point but since we are talking about brady yes he has been great but similarly very lucky . yes lucky, he had the benefit of playing 18 years in the weakest division in football where the other 3 teams have had combined 20+ different starting qbs in his tenure at NE almost guranteeing him a bye. the years in which he did not have a bye i recall he only made it to the superbowl once. he then leaves not only a division that finally got a good if not great qb in josh allen (but also a conference that got stacked a qb) to go to a weaker conference and a division that ultimately lost drew brees and has two other teams in rebuild mode.

Completed 5 throws over 5 yards, had 2/3 yards come after the catch and defense held mahomes to 9 points in the super bowl. Brady was the least pressured quarterback in sb history that game, Mahomes was the most pressured.

That's a 6 ring gap now vs possibly 4 especially with the elevated talent at the QB position in the AFC. That gauntlet plus wear and tear each yr, I don't think Mahomes will get close enough in rings.

Mahomes imo is a tier ahead of all of the Qbs his age just cause hes already got a ring and a couple Sb appearances. Josh Allen is the closest to him but hasnt gotten to the Sb yet.

It's why it's they are Brady v Manning 2.0. It's why we will see them playing repeatedly in January. Sometime Burrow will breakthrough and sometimes Lamar Jackson will, and eventually so will Mac Jones but the AFC is going to be dominated by the Chiefs and Bills for the better part of the next decade.

No, he won’t. Obviously extremely talented. But he’s not gonna be as good as Brady, or ever be as accomplished. There is only ONE. Just like in the NBA. MJ is the GOAT, he is the one and only. Same applies to Brady in the NFL. He is the one and only.

I think the greatest hurdle for Mahomes passing Brady as the GOAT is that in the postseason Brady directly won 2 Super Bowls at the expense of Mahomes 2018 Brady beat Mahomes in the AFC title game to win chip number 6, the. 2020 Brady won chip number 7 while playing against Mahomes in the Super Bowl. Their are more details that adds context but ultimately I think time will boil it down to Brady beat Mahomes twice on route to winning 2 Super Bowls.

These are terrible arguments for comparing qb’s. Qb’s don’t directly play against each other they play the defenses. Brady defenses >>> Mahomes defenses.

It’s a little irritating how it took Tom Brady over 10 years of sustained excellence before everybody put him above Montana and the rest of the historic superstars as the greatest quarterback. And it’s like the moment they did, every young guy with a good year or two is the new GOAT. Tom Brady won the Super Bowl three times in his first four years, and nobody called him the GOAT, they just said the Patriots were a great team.

That's because Brady ONLY got 3 offensive TDs in the entire playoffs the year he won his first SB. The defense was stacked. Mahomes NEVER had a good defense.
