Great to see you in the video. No unnecessary dialog, just talking to yourself the way I do. It seems like Ford should have continued production of V12.

It was small for a luxury car engine, plus, it had gained a bad reputation, as the 36 - 41 versions were not the best of engines. The 42 - 48 was in general much better, but 305 cubes was really pushing it, and some had cylinder walls that were too thin on one side or the other, sometimes even failing, so the engine never was able to overcome it's reputation of being two troublesome Ford 6s welded together, causing twice as much trouble as two troublesome Ford 6s. The post-war 292 version is the most reliable.

This is such an uber-cool find and thanks for sharing. I'm sure you'll sell it to a good home. I think the "mad scientist" mods may have been started during The War with the hope of improving engine life and fuel efficiency. I remember some old timers telling me a lot of these V-12s were swapped out early on for V-8s because of "overheating" issues that caused engine damage; and with parts and labor unavailable it was the quickest and cheapest way to keep these cars on the road. The "mad scientist"looks as though he was hell bent to keep that V-12 engine going.

If we did not have people like the "mad scientist" we would not have all of this cool aftermarket stuff that we embrace in today's society. We would not have the Iskenderian camshafts, we would not have the Edelbrock intake manifolds, we would not have many of the performance parts we have today. True this fellow had some out there ideas and of course he fabricated a lot of stuff using just common everyday items, but one has to admire his interest in making something better and implementing his so-called crazy ideas even though his wiring is something to be desired his interest in tinkering is to be admired. If that car is not destined to be a highway cruiser I am a Chinese aviator. Could one imagine seeing that vehicle out on the interstate highways of today? The styling on that car is just fantastic.

Amazing, I absolutely did not expect to see this running so soon! I hope you keep it as one of your ongoing projects. I absolutely love the front end on this. Would make a cool old school kustom. Needs some whitewall tyres and to be lowered, plus a mean sounding dual exhaust!

Mad Man Mutz lives. Just an FYI. In 1941 these engines left the factory with the heads and intake manifold highly polished.

@@danontherun5685 The Lincoln Zephyr V-12 from 1936 to 1941 used an aluminum intake manifold and aluminum heads. All 1940 and 1941 Lincoln Continentals had the heads and manifold polished. In 1942 the heads were cast iron and painted silver. From 1946 to 1948 the heads remained cast iron and were painted Ford engine green, the same as the block.

WOW! Don't know how you guys do it, but it seems to me that every car you get is cooler than the last. If it was painted and restored I would not give it a second look. The fact that you brought it back to life In your shop is real hot rodding, alive and thriving. Can't wait to see it turn heads going down the road. More please.

Good follow up on the V12. It does run smooth, so now you need to tweak it, do the brakes and add a DUAL exhaust system.....music will be sweet. Nice to see Steve being in the camera lens.

I've seen a Ford where a SBC had been swapped in and the alternator was bolted to the inner fender. Worked? nope, the belt would tighten and loosen as the car drove along the road. On the V12's,because of the size of that alloy intake , they would get condensation forming under the carb section. If the engine was subjected to too many short runs, eventually that condensation would make small holes into the manifold causing a difficult to find air leak. Back in the 60's a guy who was friends of a cousin had a model A with a V12 in it.

Awesome job in front of the camera, Steve! The hardest part is taking the first step, and the worst critic is yourself. You've got a supportive fan base out here that already see you as a rock star - but stepping out of the rhythm section up to the mike is a challenge. But you'll feel more at ease soon. Just go back a few years and watch some of Matt's first videos! And great job on the Lincoln. This has great potential - I hope Matt can find a place for it so you guys can do some custom work on it in the future.

A GREAT episode. Nice to see the car run. Get the brakes fixed, do the exhaust and wiring and with a little cleaning you have another driver. I can see this car running around with the ITG crew heading for a drive in lunch. This car wants to run. It sounded so good when all the plug wires were connected. Thanks for posting and keep it up.

Steve ! A bit more of deleting the mad scientist stuff , "Oh Dear". Priceless ! Well , the good news is you guys won't have to buy switches & wire for a while . Those two cars were LOADED with modifications . Lol . Wow ! Smooth running engine . Nice ! Even took Moon on it's first ever drive in decades . I bet that it will run better as you dial it in , & put some run time on it . Don't see many of those V12s around from that era , & you know the clutch & drive train still works well enough . Great post !

Awesome , trying to get a 70 Chrysler running after 10 years …I’ve gone through the whole fuel system ..bar pump …will try pressure to prime before I pull the mech pump out …you guys have kept me inspired ,,,love what you do ..

Another great episode! Amazing what you are finding on these cars from this estate. At first look the engineering changes look pretty nutty and crude, but could he have been an advanced thinker with the idea for a long runner tuned intake with airgap. Done unpolished and doubtful that there was any dyno testing and research done, but interesting that he went to so much work to change things that worked fine from the factory. Mind boggling. Wonder what we could say about the iron drainpipe exhaust sections? Cylinder pulse resonance reflex tunning for cylinder scavenging? 😀

Nice job on correcting the intake manifold mounting, Steve, and I'm so impressed with how you fixed the fuel pump pushrod! Yes, Matt and Steve, you guys rock! BTW, Matt, my friend with the cherry '40 DeLuxe 5 window decided to give it to a former neighbor. This "kid" grew up next door, and helped my buddy with the build. He's always love the car, and sees it a a treasure to work on with his boys. Thanks for your ideas, Matt. It's so good that the '40 has a future with a family!

Museum I worked at had a 48 Lincoln. Ran great. Drove it around. The day the donor passed away, the car never ran again. No matter what we did to it.

That 1941 Lincoln would make a fabulous resto project, the car is basically all there, it just needs some cosmetics and mechanical overhauling, a good respray to result in a really decent show-car. It would be worth every cent spent on her.

Well done guys. Most of the cars I have seen have been full restorations and they look luxurious. But yours has some nice lines which make it a candidate to mod. The ugliest part is the square, boxy trunk. But reshaping that might be more than you want to do.

Looks like you removed the very first "high-rise" manifold !! Sure runs nice. Anxious ti hear that V-12 with a nice dual exhaust behind it !! Supposedly, a V-12 is naturally balanced, with an equal number of pistons in the same relative position at all times. That seems to be enough to allow for relatively smooth running without all cylinders firing.

Love the shot of it emerging from the garage. The front end looks pretty cool. Not sure about the car as a whole, though; the proportions seem a bit off, but I can’t put my finger on it. Svelte in its own way, I suppose. The V12 sounds awesome, would love to drive it.
