I just replaced my old noisy compressor with a California Air Tools Ultra quiet oil free compressor 2hp 20 gallon tank. It is definitely quiet but had a bad leaking manifold casting right out of the box which means they don't test them as they advertise. Luckily they have good customer service. FedEx sure knows how to tear up boxes
This is an Amazon link to the one I purchased. I see the price has gone up some though amzn.to/374rFIg This is an affiliate link that provides a small commission to help support my channel if a purchase is made.

Many years ago, when I was setting up maintenance shops, in 3 separate hotels. I was totally surprised at how many tools, mostly power tools, that came with defects straight from the box. Fully 20% !! All 3 of the circular saws, for example, had a large scuff mark on the handle, in the same place on each saw. Called the makers “hotline” their answer : “ Yeah, one of the machines at the factory does that on the final assembly line.” “We’ll send you a new one” told the guy it was 3, so they sent out 3 new ones!! All I had to do was send a fax showing the proofs of purchase. Week later I had 3 new, $200 saws, one complete with the same scuff mark! I gave 2 of the “damaged” ones to my men. Apart from the scuffing, there was nothing wrong with them. Another excellent video. Thanks UHR. Rod

It seems to happen quite often lately. I show my experience from opening the box to using an item be it good or bad and hopefully it will help others when considering a product. We will see how it holds up now that there are no more leaks. Thanks for watching.

I have the same model. I bought the 220 volt model. Luckily mine was a plug and play. Never had an issue with it. Have had it around June as well. The noise reduction from my old upright 60 gallon Ingersoll Rand is like night and day. If i would have seen your video on this compressor I would have thought twice about buying it. Great videos Keep them coming,

Didn't discover you until yesterday. I like your style. Based on your 3-part video of the G1023RLWX, I ordered one. Quality control is based on the law of large numbers. It's cheaper to forego actual inspections of goods and services, and simply refund or replace. And "cheaper" is required to compete on products built to a price. And when the customers do the repairs some of the time, it's even more profitable. In the case of the compressor, it seems that they hadn't even finished the engineering phase. I believe is was Matthias Wandel who said that quality assurance is performed by the end-user. And besides, testing prior to shipping is not the same as correcting defects discovered in testing.

That has been a great saw. Check it over good when it arrives as I have had messages from 2 buyers that had improperly machined castings and had to ship them back for repairs. I have had so many problems with new items lately that should have been caught in manufacturing. As you say companies are cutting corners to save money and the end user suffers. Thanks for watching.

It is pretty sad when a "high end" manufacturer puts out a product that is bad right out of the box, and they claim to have tested it before shipping. I am thinking of getting one of these, or the Harbor freight one for a little cheaper, although it isn't a 2 H.P. only 1.75, and only 4.5 CFM vs. 5.3 at 90 psi. Also, the HF max pressure is 175 psi, not necessary to go that high and 125 is plenty. The pump would last longer as well. Thank You for doing this video and glad you were able to get the leak fixed.

URHC......I found your video on the California compressor just today 7-16-23 and was wondering how your compressor was doing after 3 years! I bought the same one for my company 2 weeks ago to replace the CAT compressor we had for 5 years supplying air to our building with 10 air lines and drops in our building. Our 10 gallon unit was still going strong but developed a leak in the tank at a weld. I would recommend CAT to anyone who wants a QUIET compressor. Good luck, and thanks for your video!

I have an old Coleman air compressor and it's noisey. The regulator was built in like yours, and it started leaking and couldn't find a replacement. I plugged it off and bought one at Harbor Freight and put it in one of the extra holes. The manifold was blocked off in middle so I took out the end plugs on each end and cross drilled it wit a long drill bit. Works great but still noisey

Bummer! I got one of these a couple of years ago. My old compressor was so loud I needed ear protection anytime it came on. Home Depot sent a 15% off coupon and I couldn't pass on it. The only trouble I have with it is that it is so quiet, I will sometimes forget to turn it off. Since I don't go to the shop everyday, it can end up on for awhile. Good thing I don't have any leaks in my lines.

I know also about UPS and FEDEX. I work for a large oil company based in Houston, TX and work in the records warehouse in Oklahoma. We get in boxes that have been thrown around and sometimes the contents are spilling out. As you say, no need to make notice of damages as they won"t do anything about it. If I were you, I would have taken it back to Home Depot.

How long do you want your compressor to last? What nobody is talking about is that the quiet dry vane type pumps only last 1/10 as long as oil-lubricated pumps. So be prepared to buy another compressor every few years, no joke.

Good luck. The other choices are from Harbor Frights or Home Despot. Don't forget that big part of the price you're paying for quiet compressor pumps is 1/10 the service life. An oil-lubricated pump will last anywhere from 10,000 to 50,000 hours, depending on manufacturing quality and whether you change the oil. The vane pumps used in the "ultra quiet" compressors start to fail around 3,000 hours. If you use your compressor every weekend, that 3,000 hours will be used up in < 5 years. Doesn't matter who makes it! That's an unavoidable fact of dry vane pumps. If you want long life and low noise, put the air compressor in a shed or learn how to build a proper sound enclosure with good (forced) ventilation. Don't forget to drain the tank regularly! Tanks that don't get drained regularly are ticking time bombs which can blow a hole right through a cinder block wall.

If you want to use higher CFM tools, you can connect your 2 compressors in series, just make sure you use a check valve if they have different tank pressures and you need to split off the connection to the safety valve so you can still have that and have the connection to the other compressor’s tank. I do that with a few cheapo compressors I got at Lowes. I use 1 for smaller things, but for hvlp/sanding/etc., I use both. I just put a ball valve between them so I can just use 1 tank when I only need one.

I have the same compressor bought a few months back. It has a tiny leak I can't find it. The pressure gauge will empty to zero overnight. I will try to look in the area you did with soap and water. I had tried before with soap and water (although not in that area) using a squeeze bottle. Does the soap and water on a foam brush help find the leaks better than out of a squeeze bottle?

How disappointing! I try whenever possible to buy 'Made in USA' and have a smaller version of a CA quiet compressor. Works great and is very quiet. I'm very thankful that I don't have the problems with UPS and FEDEX that you have. You should be commended for your civility. Ed if I may offer one bit of advice as a retired union pipe fitter who spent 37.5 years in boiler rooms. Its never a good idea to spring or pop a relief valve to relieve pressure. Over time that weakens the spring and the valve will need replacing.

Not sure how much of this is made in the USA. Its advertised as assembled and tested in the USA and I know it wasn't tested. In the last couple years ups and FedEx have destroyed and lost over $3000.00 worth of deliveries that had to be replaced. I just went by what the instructions showed. Luckily I have an extra relief valve now. It definitely is quiet and we will see how it lasts. Thanks for watching.

I have a different unit from the same manufacturer and it did something one time that scared me. When tank pressure drops, it automatically kicks on... only one time, the motor didn't start. Oddly, in my area UPS and FedEx are better than the post office. The USPTO is not consistent with their deliveries. At times we don't get delivery notification so we don't leave the gate open and either the chuck the package over the gate, or don't deliver at all and leave a note in the mailbox. Or if we do get notification and we leave the gate open they'll the leave the package at the gate or won't deliver. When they don't deliver it means a 30 mile round-trip to the post office.

I'm having a similar issue with my California Air tools model 10020 (the size down I think). That hose that goes into the valve manifold has failed (there's a hole in the hose itself), and it's not even on the parts list as a replaceable part. The compressor is super low mileage but old in years. Without a replacement for that hose though, my compressor is effectively dead because it just leaks air until there's no pressure. Very frustrating.

I saw this, and looked up the compressor just to find out how much you paid for this. Of course, I am watching the video 3 years on the future, but f you bought it today, you'd be spending $650 for it. I just bought a Stealth 20 gallon. Almost identical performance specs. Same CFM, same decibels, it is like it is a twin, but with 150 PSI instead of 125. $362.50 at Big Orange. I have heard they are sold at Costco as well, and I do not know the price there. But can tell you the Big Orange price, because that is what I just paid. I also went back to the Orange website and pulled off the model number for you. It is the Stealth SAQ-12018. I hope this information is of value to you.

I too am looking at the Stealth compressor. Alton Industries makes the Stealth and the specs are great and pump/motor are lifetime warranty and office is located in Chicago. They also make vacuum's and fans and more for Stanley, Porter Cable and DeWalt. But it is a small company with 50 employees so don't know stability for long term so warranty may be null. I like to support small companies though.

I bought a 4710SQ and it arrived broken. It wasn't because the box was thrown around either. A fitting from the air line leading into the pump was cracked. Returned it for a refund since I decided I wanted the 4620ac model instead. Bought the 4620ac and it ran for maybe 4 total tank fill-ups in a few days time and it too then just snapped from the same location while the tank was pressurized. Junk.

Both FedEx and UPS have a terrible record of damaging or loosing almost $3000.00 of deliveries to me over the last couple of years. The local UPS manager is a real piece of work and none of the employees are happy with her that seems to be part of the problem. This is a high end compressor that is supposed to be assembled and tested in the USA but it definitely wasn't. Just so many quality control issues with many things that I purchase lately. Really makes me wonder about the foods we purchase but can't see the problems they cause. I just got notices about 2 prescription drugs that I take having impurities that can cause cancer so nothing is free from defects anymore. Done ranting. I agree quality control is non-existent in most overseas companies. Don't get me wrong even to our country the good old USA it tends to stink, these new generations seem to have no pride of workmanship or sense of quality. Although prices keep going up, but workmanship or quality is going down. I can remember when made in the USA meant something, not so much these days, this throw away society sucks, and is such a waste. I hear you, when you pay good money and high dollars you should get a better quality product, that you should not have to fix, repair or re-design something new. Now I can understand some light assembly or start-up and brake in is required, but anything else is just silly. Thanks for the review and comments the video was plesent to watch.
