At 49 Iwas unable to get even an interview for a new job . I am a skilled toolmaker and my age held me back . So I left the UK and came to USA where I have had a long and successful carreer because no employer is allowed to ask your age

Older people probably just can’t be arsed. When they worked when they was younger companies valued them. Nowadays a company will fire you with no thoughts given just to improve a percentage on a year.

People in their late 50s want to retire. They're old, and even with training, at nearly 60, your brain learns much slower. There's really not much you can do with a 60 year old. Training takes time. If a 30 year old trains for 5 years for a new job. A 60 year ows might need 7+ years for that same training.

The high unemployment rate baffles me... Take this case: a woman in her mid-thirties, loaded with experience from the local authority, boasting 3 master's degrees and a bachelor's under her belt. Yet, the job hunt's been a tough ride. Self-employment became her path, given the slim pickings at job centers that align with her skills. 📚👩‍💼 "Overqualified" is the label she keeps hearing. 🤷‍♂️ #UnemploymentStruggles #SkillsOverqualified

Listen, im 60 and ive worked since i was 16 and i took redundancy 18 months ago because my body is knackered. Ive never been on benefits and paid into this country all my working life, these lot can sod off, get the younger generation off benefits and get them working especially the ones who can work but dont want to. Yes, there are people who cant work for whatever reason however, there's millions that can but wont. If your coming up for retirement age and you want to carry on working, then brilliant but if you cant work any longer or dont want to at retirement age then dont do it. We cant claim pension now until we're 67, which is disgusting, but every other man and his dog coming from other countries get everything for nothing. And as for getting on a bike to deliver food if you're over 50, how the hell can you do that when your legs have limited use.

@@kanedNunable I'm not on any benefits, although I have mobility issues, I can still walk just about with the aid of walking sticks my husband works to keep us both, I've never claimed benefits in my life and I'm not starting now. While we can afford to live as we are benefits are not an option, so no, I'm not getting more than the illegals and I've never voted Tory in my life or moaned about not getting paid enough on benefits I don't even get. Never assume because like your comment everything you've said is completely wrong.

Jobs discrimination based on age legally not allowed but it’s a daily practice , people in their 50s have a lot of experience they are the one that should give training to inexperienced young professionals, only in the UK the longer your experience the less chance you can get a job 😅😅
