Many years ago when I was the LCPO of MMR 1 onboard USS Carl Vinson, one of my areas of responsibility was cargo fuels. We were doing anUNREP with a FFG or DDG, not sure which, in very heavy seas. I was standing on the hanger deck at the refueling station, drinking my cup of tea watching the horizon gently rise and fall. Meanwhile, on the small boy, the deck crew were in full foul weather gear and I could watch the bow go from sonar dome out of the water to bow taking green water. Much respect to those small boy sailors. MMC(SS) USN Ret.

That "semi suite" looks nicer and seems to have more amenities than some of the full suites or royal cabins we've seen you have. The food seemed to be high quality as well. Looking forward to part two. I served 8 years in the Navy and never got seasick, but, from what I saw of others who did, it's nasty. Good luck with that.

I would love to try... of course not only do I have to save up (very hard to do when poor, and are either working a crap job or job-searching), but be careful on how much I spend on any of those ferry trips. They do seem expensive, and yes, I do mean in USD. Good thing I don't eat much anyways.

If you've traveled in non-English speaking countries before, you'll do fine in Japan. People are friendly and helpful. Lots of English signage around. Just don't be one of those people that expect to be catered to in English and you'll have a great time there.

Don’t worry you will get by, you probably won’t be having a hearty conversation with anyone on board but you will have no problem navigating within the ferry, you will find your way to canteen and various places, most staff on board know just enough English to help guests get around the ferry.

I live in Hawaii and am looking forward to when travel opens up between here and Japan. The Japanese tourists are missed here as they spend more money than people from the States. More importantly, I think, is that the Japanese tourists are more respectful of cultural values held by the people of Hawaii than any other group of visitors. Then there is always a bad apple. I have relatives in Japan and am thinking once quarantine restrictions are lifted, I'll make my first international travel to visit them. Been a long time since I've seen them. I like your videos and have subscribed.

Japanese ferries truly reminds me more of a cruise ship than a ferry! Just so many amenities for the passengers, on a ferry which a lot of the time is just pure transportation! The only other ferry I can think of that comes even close to Japanese ferries, would be Hurtigruten in Norway between Bergen and Kirkenes, it’s a several day long trip if going all the way, and of course, longer if going back with the ferry again to do a full cruise. Hurtigruten is really a ferry, but because of the amazing scenery in Norway, it became popular to just go for the sake of enjoying the view so it’s now also a popular cruise and the ships are generally like small cruise ships with more amenities than you’d find on for example the ferries between Sweden and Germany. I’d love to visit Japan one day, and if I do, I’d make sure to travel around by ferry a lot because it just looks absolutely amazing! Taking the longest ferry route would definitely be on my list of ferries to travel with. Just remind me to not visit Japan during typhoon season 🤣 I’m already terrified of open sea and deep waters as is, without bad weather added to the mix lol

It’s great to see that you prepared early for any possible motion sickness. In the past, I’ve had friends, family (and sometimes myself) become completely knocked out during a trip because their stomach is at war with the winding and bumpy roads or rough seas. And when your stomach is losing that war, it makes any trip not as enjoyable as it could be, so taking proper precautions and being prepared is always a plus!👍
