I wild collared dove visited us today. He was a good fighter too. He spent with us a few hours. He had a fight with my pigeon-dove hybrid. Later my white pigeon joint to the party. At the end they had dinner together and he left.

No way, I had a collared dove that looked just like that! We always let him be free to roam around with other birds, and he was very friendly towards my family. Eventually he flew away with some other birds, and I hope he's having a nice life now, enjoying nature!

What a roosters. I don't even knew that dove is capable to fight so desperately. Pigeons do, but I thought that doves are less cocky.

@@teenmafia3644 No, it's their excitement call. With Eurasian Collared Doves, the excitement call is a nasal scream (like blowing a stuffed up nose), with domestic Ringneck Doves, it's a laughing sound, and with European Turtledoves, the excitement call is a popping sound. Domestic and feral Pigeons, and their Rock Pigeon ancestor don't have an excitement call. With 'true' turtledoves (Streptopelia), the excitement call is sometimes uttered before and between bouts of cooing when performing the bowing display, which functions as both a courtship and an aggressive display, when fighting, and when performing the flight display, which consists of a steep wing clapping ascent followed by a gliding descent. Ringnecks are much more likely to utter their excitement call before and during the bowing display, and when mating, than ECDs. Ringnecks also greet their mates with the excitement call.

@@teenmafia3644 If you were referring the whooshing sound, then, yes this is produced by their wings. Here is a video of a pet male ECD challenging his mirror reflection. 5 seconds. the reason being for their screeching noise because its most likely a warning call for landing or attention grabber for mating
@motherlandbot68373 жыл бұрын
That scream is their excitement call. It is uttered when challenging rivals (usually when landing next to an adversary), and during their flight display. It's the equivalent of the 'laughing' of domestic Ringneck Turtledoves, but the latter also utter their excitement call before and between performing the bowing display, when greeting mates, and at the climax of mating, which Eurasian Collared Doves rarely do. Both male and female ECDs and Ringnecks utter the excitement call. Rock, domestic, and feral Pigeons don't have an excitement call.

They're fighting for who gets to mate first😅
@motherlandbot68373 жыл бұрын
A very mammalian perspective! They're fighting over territory and dominance. Doves and pigeons are monogamous, biparental, and form long term and sometimes permanent pair bonds. The great majority of mammals are polygamous or promiscuous, don't pair bond, don't practice paternal care, and fight for access to females. Doves and pigeons will fight furiously over nest territories, and personal space, and in the case of wild Rock Pigeons and their domestic and feral descendants, roosting territories. Eurasian Collared Doves don't fight over mating rights; they pair bond, and unlike Rock Pigeons they rarely 'cheat'. Male Rock, domestic, and feral Pigeons sequester their mates from other males when their eggs can be fertilized (a period of a week or so) by following their partners closely and driving them away when they get too close to other males, or strange Pigeons of 'undetermined' gender. They also disrupt fertilization by rival males by attacking them, sometimes in groups, during copulation. This happens only after a rival male has mounted his mate, and stops as soon as he is knocked off.

@@jamesdaple9951 mounting a rival during fights enables the top bird to punch with both wings and peck an adversary's head without being punched or pecked back with any force. Female doves and Pigeons also try to mount when fighting. Most of the "slapping" of fighting doves and Pigeons is actually punching with the carpal joint of their wings, as with geese and swans.
