► Worldwide statistics on those who go missing can be fairly difficult to establish as there are many countries who simply either don’t report the cases or don’t make the information public. Specifically, most developing countries in places such as Africa, Asia and Latin America don’t seem to be recording these incidents properly. However, with that being said experts have been able estimate that approximately 8 million children go missing each year around the world (1. Trackimo.com, Emily Moore, 27 July 2017). If adults were to be included into the equation, it’s not clear by how much that number would rise. It’s worth pointing out though that far more individuals under the age of 21 seem to go missing than those above 21. In 2019 the United States stated that 161,108 people over the age of 21 went missing while 448,090 under that age went missing. It’s worth pointing out that the vast majority of these incidents are solved in one way or another, but of course, there are occasions where the missing is never found (2. Statista.com, Statista Research Department, 27 February 2020).
Taking United States data into account, the missing over 21 accounted for 26% of the total. Meaning, if the same situation was true for every other country, the estimated number of missing people worldwide per year could be over 10 million. However, official statistics don’t exist for this question, so that number shouldn’t be taken with any degree of confidence or certainty and is missing a whole range of factors. I was also hoping to find official statistics on the number of individuals that go missing every year in a rural setting, but if they exist then I couldn’t find them. Perhaps relevant here though, is that the extremely rural state of Alaska records missing persons at almost twice that of the National average.

From the Philippines here, in elementary I had a classmate that disappeared and was found after almost a week, he was found inside a hole in a tree trunk... the tree is inside the school and they searched the grounds for days, , when he was asked where he had been, he said he was taken by fairies... i know it is not a national park disappearance but that is something I remember my entire life

Darwin's Notebook - thanks for sharing. That's bizarre. I've thought about and researched a Lot of disappearances. Ultimately, I think he Fae Are Involved in Most. Information about them, their habits, tactics, and everything else I can find lines up more than anything else. Including aliens. It really is like they exist in a very close but parallel universe to ours and are able to crossover or watch and that they sometimes choose to lure and abduct or completely take kids And adults. It's pretty eeerie. The small details that they like tobacco, liquor and sugar candies says a lot about what type of beings they are. Sociopathic in some sense..

I am an experienced Australian bush walker who enjoy off-track walking in rough country and it is astonishingly easy to misplace your location, even a couple of meters from a landmark or stream. Slip and break a leg and you could easily never be found. I suspect that a number of these cases could be of this kind, however there is repeating reports of missing peoples shoes being found, something you definitely not do. I know many do not accept reports of strange sightings in the bush, but the reason for these cases is : They know you can’t run without your shoes.

✨The James case makes me think of someone walking into a vortex. The Canadian cases about Andrew and Kevin are REALLY CREEPY and seem to have those strange 411 elements: the shoes, the weather change, the large searches... And the case in the French alps is mysterious. David vanished without a trace, and there was no scent for search dogs? I’d never heard of this case, nor Roger’s in Greece. Where do these people go? In the case of missing boy that was supposedly spotted by searchers (or misidentified as a deer) - I would think that if it was a case of him being scared and unknowingly running from the volunteers searching for him thinking they were a threat, that they would yell out his name and who they are they are trying to help him maybe idk maybe they did unsure it just seems kinda odd. If I saw a missing child in the wilderness, and if they started running I would announce this information

Nobody miss identifies a boy as a deer! They are full of shit , I hunt and there is no damn way. The only way someone gets misidentified is if they are standing/sitting directly behind a kill shot or they aren't wearing orange. If I can't make out a deer I'm not taking a shot , that's only the folks that try to commit murder!!!!!! I'm not buying it.

This is an exerpt from an article on Bierce... "The German agent tracked Bierce from El Paso to Chihuahua City where the writer’s presence had been confirmed and the last letter was sent from on December 26th. In this letter Bierce claimed that he was leaving on a troop train from Chihuahua to Ojinaga. The time frame coincides exactly with the dispatch of six brigades under Generals Ortega and Natera to Ojinaga. Of course, the generally accepted story that Bierce somehow attached himself to Villa is untrue given this time frame." I personally think he met with foul play in Mexico. I did a project on him for college, so I find the story fascinating. Source: felixsommerfeld.com/news/mexican-revolution-blog/2013/7/16/the-disappearance-of-ambrose-bierce Also, I am from Nova Scotia, but I never heard of that disappearance. That's quite unsettling. However, there have been a few here that I have heard of. One girl, Amber Kirwan, disappeared from the bar after a night out with friends and was unfortunately found murdered in the woods sometime later. This was in New Glasgow.

No paranormal mystery here. Bierce wanted to die in a last adventure. Dying in his bed like the common people he despised was an alternative he didn't want. There are recounts from the Mexican side of the story of an old man being executed by firing squad that match the description of an "old gringo" resembling Bierce.

While stating that Alaska is largely rural is fair. The difference between Alaskan rural and say, Europe, is that for 8 months of the year, Alaska weather will kill you out of hand, prepared or not sometimes. The other 4 months of the year, it might kill you. This is without taking terrain into account. Skippered vessels off and on, from 1976 to 2017, including Black Sunday in 96, and when it is clear and calm, The North will put a knife, right in your back, every damn time.

@snodds88 I don't doubt that you get extreme weather and temps as well( didn't y'all get a hurricane in the last year or 3? I don't miss those.) but Alaska would be more akin to rural Russia/Canada than anywhere in western Europe. I've seen seen severe snow/ice storms followed by -32 Fahrenheit(same in Celsius) in the American Midwest and even then I wouldn't sneeze at Alaska at it's best. Help can be dozens if not hundreds of miles away and might require a plane to get there. Let's not forget the wildlife either... It's a beautiful place with some of the best hunting, fishing and outdoor activities on this side of the planet but there is a reason they pay people to live there permanently.

I have heard other channels who give a lot of details, but they do so in a way that sounds like they are reading an instructions pamphlet from Ikea. You pick great cases, I especially enjoy the ones that didn't get much attention. Maybe consider doing a series on missing people who are a minority in one way or another. I am new to your channel, still working my way through your back catalog, so I apologise if you have done that and I just have not found it yet. Salty Seawitch from what I understand he was interested in native american culture and I suspect that even though the stories are clearly fictional, they might have had an element of reality to them. @laurids2007
@laurids2007 4 жыл бұрын
I suspect he decided to investigate all these vanishings. Bierce was a very smart and intelligent man. And I have no doubt he got really curious and curiosity killed the cat. Remember that today, many people who had been investigating children and women disappearances have also vanished, got killed or "'suicided". Not long ago an English journalist was poisoned in Poland. He got information on something very big on that...and on the same day he met a "strange woman" in a public place (she handed him an envelop with some papers inside), he got killed that night. The envelope disappeared inside the same restaurant where he was poisoned and not even his friends with him noticed anything strange or somebody around who could take that envelope away...but here goes: his notebook also vanished from his hotel. Whatever he was looking for brought him death Till now his murderer has not been arrested and will never be. His mother cries for help and her cries fell on deaf ears. I believe some similar fate might have crossed Bierce's path.

I had an incident that happened years ago where I was working in an extremely busy supermarket & I came across a child who had lost his mother. I took responsibility of the child & brought the child up to the main checkout area of the supermarket where announcements could be made to put a call out for the mother of the child but the child's mother was luckily at the main checkout area as we arrived so the child was safely handed over to the parent. I didn't think much of it really at the time but now as I look back on it that what if that child had of been found by someone else who was not a worker at the store & that said person took the child? It would be something similar to someone going missing in a place where you wouldn't think possible & these things can & do happen depending on if the security cameras actually catch a look at the face of the person who is stealing anything. How many times do you hear about how people on trails bump into others, they ask them for directions because they are temporarily lost or disoriented & other people give them directions but not once will anyone take the responsibility to make sure that the person gets back safely? I find it very strange how so many people are too selfish to care about anything other than themselves & ignore helping someone in need. Many of these people would not disappear if another person stayed with the individual who originally disappeared, many of the people who go out into forests don't have enough responsibility for themselves to take extra food, water, warm clothing, emergency devices or even waiting until a second person goes into the forest with them.

Solar Function Your last paragraph is so true! I thought exactly the same when I heard about the motorcyclists who found that man lost and disoriented; I hope they can’t live with themselves for abandoning him but deep inside I know they couldn’t care less. 😢

You are right in that but if you come across a person who is lost & clearly in distress, not thinking best, perhaps elderly or even someone who thinks that they will be okay but you can surely see that they are not prepared for the conditions of the area then the least you can do is help or would you prefer to say it's not your fault that the person you could of saved but didn't save died or disappeared because you thought it's not your problem?

I don't necessarily hope people suffer with guilt, if they decide not to help someone because hindsight is 20/20 and for multiple reasons, some people just don't feel comfortable getting involved. They could feel like they were putting themselves in harm's way or aren't sure they need help. It can be hard to know what to do. However, I am the type of person who doesn't care if someone thinks I am annoying. LOL If my gut instinct is telling me something is wrong, I take action. If I hadn't taken action, I know at least 3 people I have helped would be dead. If my only choices are between possibly annoying someone and taking a chance of annoying someone and finding out they actually needed help, well, annoying isn't the worst thing I have been called. LOL We were leaving the zoo and stopped to use the bathroom one more time before we went back to the hotel. While I was waiting for my kids, I noticed a woman who was in a major panic and had anguish on her face, so I asked her if she needed help. She said her daughter was lost. I asked her what she was wearing and I told her we would keep our eyes open for her on the way back to the car. By this time, a lot of people were looking for her and workers were driving around in the golf carts, screaming her name. About 20 minutes later, right as we were about to exit, my daughter said, "Mom, is that the little girl??" She was only 2 years old and she was crying, terrified, and standing in the corner like she was in trouble. I told her I knew where her mommy was and I hugged her. She was clinging to me, so I carried her the rest of the way. On the way back down, we passed 3 of the workers in the golf carts and told them to please let them know we found her. They let me continue to take her!!! I have wondered so many times: * What if I hadn't asked that woman if she needed help? * What if my daughter hadn't seen the little girl? * What if someone bad would have found her instead?? She was so scared, she would have gone with anyone. * Why didn't even one of the workers make sure I was going to take her to her mom?? Another time, I was at the mall with my mom. There was a little boy being carried by a guy and he was screaming bloody murder. My mom knew something was wrong. We followed him and called the cops. When he got to his car, my mom told him he wasn't leaving, and when the cops could confirm he was his dad's, she would apologize. Well, it wasn't his dad. The boy had been playing in the arcade and when his mom went to get more change, the guy grabbed him. 30 years later, I still think about it and wonder "what if???"

Congrats on reaching 100k subscribers. It's exciting to watch the channel grow, even more so so for you, I would imagine. The steady growth on this channel is definitely a testament to the phenomenal job that you do in creating these videos. Who doesn't love great content that involves the mysterious? And with the major issues weighing heavily on everyone's minds right now, it's so nice to take a short vacation from worry and sit down to see what you've crafted for us today. On that note, I sincerely hope that you and your loved ones stay safe, my friend. It may be scary out there right now, but believe me when I say that the enjoyable content that you put out for us makes it all the more easy to just stay home. Now, I am on to the video!

A big problem with the missing person count is that if 1 person goes missing 3 times in 1 year (a kid running away from home Is reported and then either comes back or is found) that is still listed as 3 missing person cases for that year.

I love your stories. Thanks. I always thought the Ambrose Bierce story was amazingly baffling. I learned about him when I took college classes ten years ago. It is very sad about the little boy and the teenager, too. The older man's disappearence is very odd. I won't put up likes because you tube keeps tracking them. Keep up the good work.

Although I do find these cases fascinating I'm a bit full up on disappearances videos as KZfaq is being flooded with them. At 14:24 -- that's something I have talked about at length with Milo. Not sure how SART operates when calling for lost children or adults, so never mentioned it in the comments here or anywhere else -- but considering how isolation and dehydration takes effect on the brain, it's not too far fetched to think that some people would run away from rescuers because their ability to reason is compromised

This was a great video! I guess that I can understand how someone being lost in the woods could become paranoid and try to escape what they perceived as a new threat. That would be so devestating! My question to the community and this channel is this: When searchers respond to these situations, is there any procedure involved where they would be directed to identify themselves as a rescue team or personnel (instead of just calling out the name)? "Kevin, this is the rescue party. Where are you?"

These make me happy !!!!! I mean I'm sorry for all of the lost souls and thier families for sure but these narrations relax me and they comfrt me for some reason as I'm going thru a separation after 20 years ..I wsnt even legal to drink alcohol ( so young) and now middle aged and everything's so different from 19 to 40 lol. .. but anyway I cnt sleep w out them @ night .. I used 2 think that I'd only ever listen 2 dave but I do like tht I'm hearing different cases since I followed dave for ovr 7 months and sadly I think I've finnaly hit the end... watched everything dave ..anyway does this person read the books of Dave and than tell cases we dnt hear from dave unless we scour for 8 months like me or buy the books? I dnt think hes doing tht here but I swear someone in the comments said tht a while bk .. and I wld love tht . I bough the 1st book and as obsessed as I am and I've watched. Bth movies and loved the doc he did vanished , for an avid reader I jst cldent get through it .. dnt wnt to say fell flat but it sorta read like a police report might for the missing ... so I'd love to get the stories rather thn bug any more books until I've finished the 1 I paid 45 $ for on amazon lol

As to the deer misidentification, most of the cases I've seen involve two hunters where one hunter is misidentified as a deer usually by a drunk companion or it's used to cover up malicious fights between hunter friends and family.
