The Darrah Wildlife Sanctuary, located about 56 kilometers away from the city of Kota, is basically a woodsy reserve scattered in over 250 square kilometers of the land. Before being declared as the sanctuary in 1955 by the government, the area was a very popular hunting ground for the Maharajas of Kota. The vegetation in this area was quite denser in the ancient times than now. These dense forests were the house for many dangerous animals like tigers and rhinos, due to which it was the main hunting area for the rulers of Kota.
