For this episode, I sat down with Sitaram Yechury, Secretary-General of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), wearing a 'borrowed' safari suit and chilled with him over lunch.

Just because someone speaks with the Nukhta, doesn't makes him an intellectual. The man you're talking about is hypocrisy personified. For just one example, he recently made a statement that "Violent films are a danger to the society" He can't say that being one half of the duo, who literally started the trend of violence in Hindi films. Classic Hindi films before Salim-Javed: Pyaasa, Mera Naam Joker, Mother India, Dosti, Haqeeqat. None of them are so violent. Classic Films by Salim-Javed: Sholay, Don, Zanzeer etc. They created the "Angry Young Man" and made a living out of it and now blaming the audience for liking Animal and Kabir Singh. Yaadon Ki Baraat by them is considered the "first masala film" in Hindi cinema. He's not a very good poet either. Pseudo-intellectual! Best place for him to be is a retirement home in Khandala hills.

If I am a singer, I don't need to be sad to sing a sad song, if I am an actor, I don't have to be villainous in real life to portray a villainous role. But when you are speaking in public as in influencer. Then, it is ethical to either own up and say, I have done this and I am not proud of it. Then criticize something. You can't criticize others for doing something which you also do. That's the difference between a lyricist and a poet. A lyricist writes lines which invoke emotion. A poet writes lines which envoke meaning in life. He's a good lyricist, but he's no poet. Gulzaar sahab is a poet for example, his song Naina in Omkara, if you listen..that's the crux of entire Indian philosophy be it Jainism, Budhism and Hinduism in just 4-5 lines. All these religions say, World seen by our senses in an illusion, this illusion is the cause of all human misery. Naino ki mat maaniyo re, naino ki mat suniyo...Naina thag lenge...says exactly that. So, that's some good poetry.

I oppose left with every iota of my life and to do that I listen them more than anyone else. And while doing so at many instances I was impressed with the way people like Sitaram Yechury table their ideas and knowledge. Undoubtedly they read more and are more knowledgeable than any of their right wing counterparts. That’s why they are still very effective even when they are in no position to match the numbers. I’ll keep opposing them ideologically while keeping the respect at core for them as an individual.

It's not enough to just know what you oppose but deep down you need to know what you believe in too. Someone who stuck in tribalism have to defend everything under his banner without any choice, unlike a free man who can differentiate good and bad and might just change his mind when he see through things with clarity. @@MythicEcho Bud he criticised the uyghur treatment ..he criticised the border conflict what more will he criticise against china?If china is expanding its military bases around world it is a headache for India but no one can criticise it. Especially because its a diplomatic or millitary win for china while diplomatic/millitary loss for us. They are good at something because we are bad at it thats it there is nothing to criticize. Hindu rashtra is the day dream of bjpbhakts which simply means expansion of current borders and it aligns with nationalistic goals same goes for them as well, you cant complain or expect complain you can accept victory/loss.

Samdish went there with a hidden despise for communism which reflected in his sarcasm and laughter, Sitaramji being a veteran handled the situation well.... The end said it all .... A more neutral communication would have helped the interview perhaps.... Getting such a senior leader to talk with youngsters is a proud achievement... job done ...

Sitaram in a nutshell Politically: 1. Held Indira Gandhi accountable infront of her. 2. Took stance against Electoral bond ( only party to do so). 3. Fought against deportation of Iranian students who were protesting against then Shah of Iran. (They could literally be dead if deported). 4. Personal: 1. Class XII All India topper (CBSE). 2. Great orator. (Check speeches in Parliament). 3. Lost his son in COVID. 4. humble. Politician we need rn. Sitaram is a role model.
