In which Dr. Corey Olsen discusses Part Two, Chapter 4 of JRR Tolkien's Unfinished Tales.
An examination of Chapter 4 of Part II of Unfinished Tales: The History of Galadriel and Celeborn. We will consider the changes in Galadriel's story as it developed in Tolkien's mind, and consider the implications of that development on the larger Silmarillion and The Lord of the Rings.
Class begins with an overview of Galadriel's position in Tolkien's thought, and then we sort through the various incarnations of her story, looking at the Galadriel 1.0 all the way through Galadriel 4.0, which Tolkien wrote just before he died.
