Among other crimes. As he was acting in the capacity of the village attorney he was acting under the color of law. He impeded the auditors freedom of movement, infringed on his 1st and 4th amendment rights. Think given the number of actors here and the threat of arrest 18US241 Conspiracy to deprive and 18US242 Deprivation of rights under the color of law would easily apply here. Given the facts we see in the video this would likely result in a fine or up to a year in federal prison for each count that could be successfully leveled against them.

I work for a county government and one of my main responsibilities is to get landowners signed up to receive an annual tax credit, giving them their tax dollars back to them! I’ve never treated a citizen “like dirt” and not one of the other people I work with would do that. I grant you all, the fact, there are some govt employees that do, but to say with such seeming derision that we are all bad is just ignorant. These audits can keep those poorly administered government agencies striving for a higher bar of serving their citizens.

As a Long Islander, I am very grateful to have an auditor working our villages and towns. I say this as someone with a bunch of cop friends and a family that that has some connections in local politics. Not because I've seen my friends and family do anything shady -- to the contrary -- but because history tells us how easily power corrupts. These "public servants" need to be politely but strongly reminded of our rights as citizens.

You can see it in the attorneys face when he said "you were in secured offices" and Long Island called him out right there on the spot. That's when this attorney slowed down for a sec to really realize he made a huge mistake. Next, you see the snake run off (after calling the cops) to leave everyone else to deal with the mess THE ATTORNEY STARTED! My God! These public servants are insane!

Seems like an inordinately large number of "Constables" for such a small town. Interestingly, "Constables" require almost no law enforcement training, and almost anyone can apply to be one, and they usually only require an appointment from a judge or magistrate. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they're all related in some way.

No. There is a much more universal explanation from behavioral psychology. It is dominance aggression, a form of superiority. Those who have any government position or government job at all consider themselves to be in power over the general public. So they flex the muscle of authority - same as cops do.
