This is shockingly the brief version. The amount of things they've improved on is honestly staggering, especially with how brilliant many of those implementations were. The Legion mechanic started this thought train, and yet it became this long. There's just more and more. I love this.

I think this is the most anyone has talked about my Fav series/ game Ogre Battle 64 and god i hope we get multiple endings and story paths in Unicorn Overlord... also i really hope we get some combo magic in UO i loved all the crazy combo magic. I have so many font memories figuring out all the secrets like the first time getting the black knights or the lichs. also I miss that every weapon isnt a visual change on our characters in UO.

I love Ogre Battle 64. When I was a kid, before guides were really a thing, all of the random events, coupled with how classes could evolve based on things that happened in combat, that you didn't really have 100% control over, really made it feel like you weren't a "hero" that the whole plot was centered around. Instead, the war was something happening to you, and you were doing the best you could with what was given to you. It made moments like the one with Dio fairly early on, or when certain Xenobiains straight up told me to #@&+ off, really impactful in a way I have always had trouble putting into words.
@ValeVin
@ValeVin 4 ай бұрын
That moment where you cast an AoE fire spell on a shambling horde of unarmed zombies, and once the flames cleared, you now had burning skeletons wielding fiery battleaxes running at you. Or where your fire and lightning mages learned to combine magic and suddenly you were accidentally forging enemy stone golems into baldur golems. OB64 was a lot of fun.

@@CoffeePotato If you're ever determined to do a guide on how bad the official OB64 print strategy guide is and can't find a copy, let me know, and I can loan you mine. I bought it for the cute chibi angel knight artwork... which is good, because the actual tips and hints are mostly wrong. Which adds to the mystique of the series. Heck, GameFAQs' guide on how to get Biske is missing something big. He fails to join as often as he actually joins if you follow it. I was starting to think he couldn't join you if you had Europea, then I checked my husband's Wii saved game and he got Europea and Biske, so I guess it is possible.

lol yeah, seeing the MOTBQ "anyone can be a flier" thing come back is hilarious and awesome. Of course Unicorn Overlord's system requires a flier as a leader and the characters in the unit can make it faster or slower vs MOTBQ's "one griffon/wyvern = fast as f boy high sky unit". Like, a flier + hoplites or magic users makes a slow flier, but a flier + cav units makes a fast one. Honestly I like it; it makes flying units more interesting than OB64's very limiting system (especially since you don't get the best flying beast until deep in chapter 4). Anyways, I'm looking forward to seeing just how many Easter eggs/references are going to be in Unicorn Overlord. You know there's going to be a heck of a lot of them, considering how many are in the demo already.

I really liked OB64, and have played through the demo. I'm not really as optimistic as you are about the way the strategy ( story ) layer is going to pan out. The tactics layer seems fine and the gameplay is good, but story-line / campaign is what motivates me to actually finish these types of games. The opening of this game was quite poor story-wise, and I mostly worry that despite having these veneer of open-world engagement, that the story will be quite linear and basic.

We already have some level of evidence to the contrary, but we'll see. I'm all about the interactions above all else, and this thing is a monster of fantastically designed, layered mechanics.

Look, not to be mean or blunt, and I appreciate you bringing up Ogre Battle 64, but this is wrong and a very clickbait name. Ogre Battle 64 didn’t evolve into UO, if anything it is a dumbed down version in almost every way. Fewer classes. Fewer upgrade options. No hidden classes. No hidden mechanics like chaos frame or the liberation/capture mechanic. No birthday system. No elm pedra system. Heck even the unit sizes have Been lowered from the 3x3 grid to a 2x3 grid and the large character mechanic isn’t present. No wild units at all. This is just factually inaccurate. Ogre Battle 64 had well over 150 hours of gameplay in some cases (I had one perfect playthrough go 200+ hours). Please do more research before saying things that you clearly just ripped from others. It’s a really good game, especially coming from the N64 era.
