I show you how to remove the UniFi AP from the mounting base in very easy steps. I am using a bread twist tie in the video, but you can also use a paperclip, a small screw driver, a toothpick, or pretty much anything to lift the locking lip.

Had to yank my NanoHD off the wall bringing the bracket and plugs with it. The people that installed it didn't provide enough cable length for the AP to rotate enough for it to release from the bracket, could only turn it half the way required when it needs to rotate as far as it can to come off. Always leave enough cable length between the wall/ceiling and the AP's Rj45 connection for it to rotate far enough to release off the bracket.

Definitely worth approaching the install company about a recompense. Any professional installer knows to put in at least two maintenance loops on both ends of the installation, at least 1 ft of cable loop. Sorry to hear that got dorked up.

This doesn't work reliably. If the tab doesn't lift sufficiently, there's no way you can rotate the AP. Really dumb design by ubiquiti.
@DT-rt9jp
@DT-rt9jp Ай бұрын
I'm going to be honest, it doesn't take a lot of force to get that tab to slide. That's why I demonstrated it with a bread twist tie. Ubiqiyitis low profile ease of use and install is one of the best out there. (I'm a network architect and deal with a lot) but I get if you just don't like it. To say it's poorly engineered and designed though....
@jonathanbaxter5821
@jonathanbaxter5821 Ай бұрын
@@DT-rt9jp Don't get me wrong, I love ubiquiti gear. I have my whole house and yard covered - about 10 devices total including wired in-wall APs, wired switches, a mesh repeater for the pool, and so on. But this is a poor design. It's easy to turn that tab when the device is not installed and you have all the access you need. When it is installed and flush against the ceiling (or under the eave in my case), it's not easy to get it to turn because there's not the room to get the right angle before whatever you're using (paperclip, twist tie, etc) intersects with the horizontal surface of the ceiling. And you have the additional issue that if the device has been installed for a while outdoors, it is likely somewhat stuck together with debris, dirt, etc, so you are turning with one hand in a tight space and twisting the device with the other. Since there's no tactile feedback from the clip mechanism, you don't know if it's stuck due to the clip not disengaging, or just due to the device itself being somewhat gummed up. It's not easy. I stand by my claim that it is poorly designed.
